Graduation Dont purchase commencement tickets!
I feel like this should go without saying, but I'm seeing posts left and right about it so I just want to put it out there:
DO NOT PURCHASE COMMENCEMENT TICKETS.
I know people are desperate, but the scammers be scamming and there is absolutely ZERO ways to confirm with 100% certainty that the ticket you purchase is legit and not a duplicate that they are selling to folks left and right. if your guest using that ticket isn't the lucky first person at the door to use it, they won't be let in.
I know it sucks, but try to only get tickets from someone you know and trust. ask your dean and professors for extras (they often have a bucket to share)
don't waste your money, friends.
and I know many don't care, but it is technically against the student code of conduct to sell or purchase them. if you are caught doing it, they can take your tickets away! I've seen it happen a couple times!

Why can’t people just invite 7 of their closest friends/family and call it a day?

If I have any left over for Saturday the 23rd at 3 pm (some family members might have issues attending) I would be more than happy to give them away. I'll post it here. Congratulations to those graduating!

Please let me know! I made a post a month ago but no one responded. I would need 1 extra if you have one to spare.

I mentioned this to someone and they got pretty upset and insistent deans and professors do not have spare tickets they can hand out. They talked about how open to favoritism and corruption that would be, and also how deans mostly want nothing to do with commencement planning. Not to be rude but Who did you hear that from? Idk if your a student or staff but the fellow student I talked to had strong opinions 😬

I used to work in the commencement office. So I saw it firsthand. Professors definitely do not have spare tickets but deans offices have a small amount to distribute at their discretion.

Ask classmates. Ask your dean's office. The tickets are out there. Just don't pay for them unless you know and trust the person selling them to you.

You’ve never seen it happen. Selling tickets happens literally every year. I’m tired of seeing this pearl-clutching over “omg it’s not allowed.” You really think the student conduct committee cares to investigate someone who will have graduated by the time they get around to it? Tell me you still live with your parents without telling me you still live with your parents.
Ticket confirmation comes via the buyer’s email directly from the CSUS portal. It’s a relatively safe transaction. Some students wish to recoup their grad fees and want to use the included tickets (or aren’t walking). It’s none of your business.

I’ve heard of it happening twice.

To clarify people getting scammed over selling tickets not student conduct/affairs stuff

I have seen Student Conduct officers take away/limit tickets for grads at least 4 times in the last 2 years. It is rare, because most people don't post their real names or contacts, but trust me... It is on their radar.
And I'm a 35-year-old former staff, so no... I don't live with my parents. Lol.
And idk what you're talking about when you say ticket confirmation comes from the buyers email. That makes zero sense... But you're right. It's none of my business. Was just trying to warn those who are naive or unaware of the risks they're taking.

that is evil. scammers are really scum of the earth. people are trying to go to a commencement ceremony, and they have the balls to scam those people?
