I will always be a fan of how his artstyle made characters feel like they're in motion despite them being static.

He draws figures 8 ft tall, Hulk 12 ft, and twist their hips with the same extremeness.

Im always gonna be a Gruenwald stan, the epitome of Cap in my opinion. Followed by Brubaker and then Waid close behind

I have a real soft spot for Stan Lee and Gene Colan’s Stuff. Love Sam Wilson as a character, and Cap kinda being a “wandering adventurer/biker” before was just some lovely pathos.

I love Jack Kirby, but I will say that Cap becomes a better comic to read when Colan comes on, Stan seems to let the art breathe and puts a lot less unnecessary dialogue on it
Also, that first cover with Cap meeting Falcon is so great, it conveys that Falcon is the hero of that issue and he is, he is a friend indeed when Cap really needs it

I absolutely ADORE Cap’s Tales to Astonish era, but I agree and feel that the action and pathos reached a nice balance when Colan came on. You’d go from a still poignant but brief session of Steve pondering his existence with more focus on the issue conflict to a consistency of Cap dealing with the story’s main plot and crisis but also stretching out his inner dialogue comfortably throughout the whole issue.

From my reading experience so far, Kirby/Kirby and Spencer/Acuña, but really any Cap pairing with Acuña I’ve loved, especially Avengers Twilight

Brubaker and Epting.

Not a huge fan of the Winter Soldier, but I liked that Brubaker moved away from Cap dealing with "real world issues" and had him fighting AIM and Hydra again. And Epting's art was phenomanal.

I'm a massive sucker for the Gruenwald era. I wish the movies took some of the whimsy of that time.

I am a bit partial cause I’m the widow of Mark Gruenwald. But he worked on Cap longer than any writer!!

Nick Spencer and Daniel Acuna. I’ve always been a fan of Daniel Acuna. From his work on Captain America (Sam Wilson) to Black Panther: Intergalactic Empire. I love what him and Nick have done for Sam Wilson as a character, really giving Sam his own perspective and experience of being Cap.

My pick that's not on here would be the recent Lanzing/Kelly/Carnero run. A fun, well written arc that was rushed to a conclusion.
Stellar art by Carmen Carnero really elevated it too.

My favorites are Onyebuchi/Silva and Spencer/Acuña run of Sam Cap. Although my favorite art is Silva's for being so dynamic and the actions scenes more "explosive". I think that Cap vs Hunter fight was epic.

By making this I discovered there is a period from issue 193 to 214 where Jack Kirby was the sole writer and penciller, and I really want to read that now.
