What would your reimagining of Captain America and Bucky Barnes look like?
in terms of design, since the story will remain the same as always though they could add a few extra details or tweak the backstory to see what emerges from the reimagining.
Personally I think they got it spot on in winter soldier with the stealth suit.
It looked modern tactical without needing stuff like molle straps on it.
Made cap look even more commanding as it accentuated his physique without it needing to be Spandex.
The helmet was perfect as it looked practical as well as have not having the ears.
The shield looked awesome in the muted colours and constantly carrying around on the magnastised straps on his back look badass as a silhouette as he filled out the entire thing.
Boots were a nice subtle modern set that didn't draw attention away and were just practical
Bucky in all honesty like everyone says can just keep him how he is as no matter how you dress him he looks awesome
in terms of design, i'd just give steve a whole lot of scars, but very specifically two prominent ones:
he had a surgery in the 80s due to the drug that was affecting him, so he has to get a y-section scar.
he quite literally was possessed by a fragment of arnim zola & that guy manifested as a tv head (literally) in the abdominal part of steve's body, & steve later cut out with a jagged metal piece... so he gets a really, really bad & big & nasty scar for it.
outside of that, i'd just add natural details like moles & freckles too, because why not. the guy's pasty white! he either gonna get sunburned badly, or he gets freckles whenever its summer time.
Kind of hard to redesign suck an iconic look. You could go the tacticool route but you might wind up with some Rob Leifeld pouch nightmare. Probably an amalgamation of the tactical and the classic uniform. You want him to look like a soldier but to differentiate himself as not being a standard soldier but the special ideal that he is. Gotta let a superhero look like a superhero.
Maybe the revolution cape combined with the original epting design but with more blue for Bucky. Tbh I loooove caps classic outfit but I’d probably emphasize the scales. Make them larger and more metallic
Him exploring the true secret of USA (Inspiration from the Monument Mythos Analog Horror series), Cap vs Statue of Freedom, Namor vs Alcatraz, Human torch (Jim Hammond) vs Air Force One Angel would be peak
I wish they didn’t merge him and Arnie’s background for the MCU. Arnie was Steve’s actual childhood best friend- shoulda been his own character and Bucky already had a background as Steve’s sidekick.
World War II: I like the idea of his classic Spandex costume being something he wears for public appearances and propaganda films. While during war he wars his Ultimate WWII uniform.
Present day: A militarized look with classic elements. Similar to this Concept art.
I like the army helmet and mask vibe for cap that we see in his backstory on the ultimate universe and some scenes of first avenger, I just think the mixing between army apparel and the flag-man collant colorful suit fits so well together, the main design of him in the avengers videogame is also very good in my opinion, one of the few goods things in that game was character design.
About Bucky, I like his half-black captain America suit from the new avengers, it fits his personality a lot. I don't like the exhibition other suits do of his metal arm, it should be more subtle in my opinion
This may not be good advice, but I want them to have their own appearance away from the MCU. Give Bucky back his brown eyes and less Sebastian Stan looks!
I love Brubaker’s design for Bucky best and would say follow that design for Bucky.
Keeping the black sam cap and making Bucky either a super duper gay white guy or making him a black or Hispanic female who’s exceptionally smarter, stronger and overall better than any white male and ofc she was only capture by the white male bad Russians because she has female reproductive parts and non white skin. Thats also her entire personality. Also she has no character arch either thats it
