Welcome to r/Christian! We're glad you're here.

Our community is a place for Christians of all kinds to come together for respectful discussion. We are an ecumenical subreddit for anyone who identifies as a Christian. Our core value is respect and our rules reflect that value.

Please take a couple minutes to review our sub rules (linked here) before posting or commenting.

If you're new to Reddit, you should also familiarize yourself with Reddit's site-wide rules (linked here) and Reddiquette (linked here.)

Please note that Upvotes and Downvotes are intended to signal content as relevant and helpful (upvote) or irrelevant and unhelpful (downvote.) While many people misuse voting on Reddit, we ask that community participants make an effort to use them as intended. We're here for discussion and the proper use of voting encourages healthy community participation.

Helpful Tips for Respectful Discussion

Because Rule 2 (Show Charity / Be Respectful) is so important, we're including a few basic tips for respectful communication.

-Consider using “I” statements (I think, I believe, I feel) versus “You” statements (You're wrong, You shouldn't, You can't).

-Remember that some community members are new to the faith and may have comments or questions that reflect their beginner level of experience and knowledge of the faith.

-Remember that your experiences, beliefs, and practices may be very different from someone else. Try to leave room for them to share theirs, just as you want to have room for sharing your own.

-Broad negative statements about groups of people are usually uncharitable. Rather than speaking for a whole group, consider speaking about your own views or experiences. Rather than generalizing, consider being specific. For example, a negative comment that start with, “Baptists always...” is not usually going to be an accurate or a charitable statement. Instead try something like, “My experience in Baptist churches has been..." (You can substitute your own group for "Baptist" if it helps make the example more clear to you.)

For your convenience, we are also providing the following links to older posts which give more helpful information for those who'd like to learn more.

Wife cheated on me after 4 months of being married

• Upvotes

I m23 married my wife w25 in June of this year and only moved in together 2 months ago and ever since we moved in together we have been at each others necks finances have been tight and pressure have been built up. Last week my wife told me she kissed her co worker on two separate occasions the week before and she says she has been catching feelings for him and he gives her more attention than me is what she said.

Now I’m totally checked out of the relationship as I can’t look at her the same anymore but I don’t want to divorce because of the shame of getting divorced after a couple months of being married. We were dating for 4 years before we got married and nothing like this has ever happened and we have a 2 year old toddler. Family and church pressure but most importantly I want my child to grow up in a single home where both parents are together but I don’t want to be with my wife I feel like she disrespected me and we agreed no cheating will be tolerated.

Please help I think I’m overthink it

For the parents who are christian are you interested in Christian content that is a blend of Mrs. Rachel, Danny Go, Blippi and Bill Nye the Science Guy. I'm looking at the YouTube space and I don't see YouTube content that is like those channels mentioned above.

This isn't about trying to be the" Christian Mrs. Rachel as I see some youtubers label themselves as or even try to copy what she does and make it Christian. I simply do not see in the Christian space a channel that is geared toward maybe middle school high school kids that relates well to them on YouTube. I mention these groups and not pre school age groups like Mrs. Rachel's target age group because Ive seen preschool age children have total melt downs when the TV goes off. I think her content is good and effective. I don't think adding to it, to add Christian information would be beneficial.

Edit: I won't delete original post so comments still make sense.

Im not interested in preschool age content as I know childrena brains really cant handle watching screens at this age. Many times preschool age children are watching more screen time that is healthy for them developmentally speaking. I'm using Mrs. Rachel and other YouTubers name as a point of reference. Im looking into content that yes Christian parents or parents open to hearing about Jesus can simply have their children/ preteens/ teens watch/listen and learn about Jesus. The CHOSEN is a great example of a TV show that has upped the game for Christian content. That's what I'm looking for in the Christian pace for kids/preteens/teenagers that is fun engaging, creative like the preschool population has found in Mrs. Rachel and Blippi for example. Parents what are your thoughts? Content would also be low sensory. Some YouTube channels are very high sensory.

I Don’t Know How to Say Goodbye to My Grandma

Hey guys, so I’m currently working on a tribute for my grandma, who passed away. She was like my mom because she was the one who raised me. Her funeral is coming up, and I’m struggling with the thought of having to read my tribute. Honestly, I don’t think I can do it.

It’s all starting to feel real, and I feel like I’m losing my mind. I’m 22, and the last time I saw her was eight years ago. I was supposed to visit her last spring break, but I got a new job and couldn’t leave the country. She got really sick, so the plan was for her to come and visit me in September, but she passed away in July, just two days after my birthday.

Faith was one of the biggest things she instilled in me, and now I’m struggling with it because I genuinely can’t wrap my head around the fact that she’s dead. Most days, I pretend she isn’t gone and that one day she’ll call me on WhatsApp, and we’ll talk for hours like we used to.

I’m literally crying as I write this. I don’t even know what I’m looking for by posting this. I just needed to let it out somewhere.

That’s all. Thank you for reading.

Baptism

• Upvotes

I been debating on being baptized for many years I always felt as if i was unworthy or that I wasn't deserving. Im not particularly a fan of the church but the pastors are nice. I decided to be baptized and following my baptism class I felt so nervous I spoke to the pastor and he encouraged me to keep moving forward. I felt torn to write my testimony so I said I wasn't going to follow through one of the women of the church asked to meet with me so I agreed we talked and when I went home I felt at easy and was able to write a short testimony.

Im going to be baptized today but feel scared and nervous as if I shouldn't due it maybe I'm pushing to hard or fast. My daughter did wake up with a little cold so I feel like maybe its a sign to just back out and keep her home instead going to church.

Don't have any family support they could careless so just feeling torn and anxious I guess.

Degree in Ministry.

• Upvotes

I have a degree in ministry because I wanted to learn more about scripture and what ministry incorporates. However, now that I’ve completed it I don’t exactly know what to do with it. I’m not really interested in just working in a church.

Any ideas on what to do with it?

I’m not ready for the end.

I love God, I’m nothing without Him and I can’t wait to spend an eternity in Heaven with Him and all who have gone before me. I know Heaven will be amazing, I know my time on earth is limited, I know the earth won’t last forever and the end times will come. I don’t know when and I don’t speculate, honestly. I try not to think about it too much because I get sad or scared. Then I feel guilty like I’m not good enough if I get scared about those kind of things.

Am I a terrible Christian if I’m not ready for death or the end times? I have a beautiful marriage, an amazing husband, three amazing little kids, and I want to watch them grow up. I want to experience their school years, watch them learn to drive, meet their friends, see them graduate. Watch them play sports or learn an instrument. I want to drink coffee on my front porch with my husband while our grandbabies play in the yard. I want to experience life with my husband and see our family grow. I pray every single day that God will protect my husband and I so that we can live a long life together and grow our family.

My parents and my grandparents are so ready to go, can’t wait for the end times, but they got to live their life and I haven’t even lived three decades. I know it is selfish but I want more time here. I know it’s rough, and sad and painful but I love my life and my little family and our little house and I don’t want to miss out on anything 🥺

Advice/Help/small vent

Good evening/morning/afternoon

I’m in need of people’s perspective on a situation I have been dealing with in my local church. For context I am a 23(M) year old VP to my youth at my local church. Me and the President of my youth have tried for months to organize events for our youth but it almost seems to fall on 2 or 3 people to be responsible for it and it falls on death ears on the youth.
I tried to organize bible studies to discuss certain topics that I believe the youth should tackle in this generation but yet again its like 3 people who only reply to any questions or whatever is given in our study. I got so mad to the point I even brought it up with my pastor and it’s like not even he understands the situation too (lol). So I said, okay let me pray on this and read my bible. I legit spent almost 2 or 3 months on this and finally last week the answer fell on my lap, to just walk away.

I find it hard to do such thing since for me its been a very long time since Ive had talked to people ( for context, growing up, i was very secluded, straight to school and home. STUDY AND WORK mentality due to my father so I barely did any clubs or went out with friends. Never partied, never had sex, never did drugs, not even dating. None of that(ik hard to believe but that was my childhood)). It wasn’t until legit last 3 years I’ve made only 2 friends (not counting my older sibling who I’m close with). But is this really the right thing to do? I feel awful for leaving a role that was placed upon me (for context. I never applied or asked for this. Somebody nominated me in an election of which I wasn’t present due to being a member at the time and being at my job). I wish I can do more with the youth im involved with but man it sucks, they plan things behind the youths back, even one time my sibling and current president paid out of their own pockets the gifts for mothers day (mind you, nobody fundraised it either) and the youth females got upset and said “thats it?” Behind their backs. Not in my 12years growing up in church have i seen youth be so distant and cold. At this point I might as well go on my own since my uncle is a pastor and my family ministers and became founders for a couple churches.

I don’t think I can stay here much longer. It’s like watching a sinking ship in slow motion. Is there any salvaging this? Or do I simply walk away from my role. Does that seem like an irresponsible thing as a christian to do? Anyone can help me or give perspective either biblically or on experience it would deeply help me.
I feel very lost and frustrated. Sorry if this seems like i’m venting but I’ve tried talking to the leaders and it seems like either they don’t want to disrupt a click or make people “upset”. I’ve set my mind that once my term as VP ends that Im not being in any positions and I am slowly fading myself out of there for good. I come here asking for help. Thanks to those who read this.

I have been convinced of the Trinity BUT still believe the title "Almighty" is for the Father alone, am I incorrect and why?

The reason is because even within Trinitarian belief, we still believe the Son is subordinate to the Father, that he is eternally begotten generated by the father.

Also, the bible itself only seems to give this title to the Father, am I missing something?

I still believe Jesus is the Eternal God.

But the title Almighty I think is for the person of the Father only.

Do you think Christians can sometimes be too judgmental toward others?

I’ve been thinking about how we say we’re supposed to follow Christ, yet sometimes I feel like we judge people without really knowing them or understanding what they might be going through.
For example, when we see someone involved in adult-content creation or spending money on that kind of content, it’s easy to criticize them or make assumptions about their character. But we don’t necessarily know their circumstances, what led them there, or what struggles they might be facing.
I’m not saying Christians can’t have moral convictions or disagree with someone’s choices. I’m wondering whether we sometimes become so focused on judging those choices that we forget to treat the person with compassion and dignity.
Jesus called people to repentance, but He also showed compassion to people whom others looked down on.
How do we balance holding onto our biblical convictions with showing grace to people whose choices we disagree with? How can we address sin without acting as though we’re better than the people we’re talking about?

How do you know if something is a "God wink," or a sign or small measure of comfort from God?

I'm just wondering about this, as there are things that have happened for me that could be, but at the same time, they're also easily explained away as coincidence or something else. I'm definitely still trying to build my relationship with God and am struggling with feeling He's with me.

What does it actually mean to take God’s name in vain?

What does it actually mean to take God’s name in vain?
I’ve been thinking about the third commandment in Exodus 20:7, and I’m curious about what it means in everyday life.
I often hear expressions like “OMG,” even when people just use the initials, “for the love of God,” “for Christ’s sake,” and especially “I swear to God.” The last one is probably the most common expression I hear.
I’ve wondered whether using these phrases casually counts as taking God’s name in vain, particularly when people aren’t intentionally trying to disrespect God.
Are all these expressions examples of taking God’s name in vain, or is there more to the commandment than simply saying God’s name in a certain context?
How do you understand this commandment biblically, and what are some examples of taking God’s name in vain that Christians might overlook?

CW: Sensitive Topic Am I wrong for going no contact with my father as a Christian?

My parents divorced when I was young after my dad repeatedly cheated. Afterward, he made my mom’s life miserable, including financial abuse, getting her fired from jobs, stealing her car over night so she couldnt get to work, and assaulting her partner in front of me when I was 11. He also assaulted my mom when he closed the front door on her hand and broke it when she tried to pick up my older sister, cops were involved. Despite everything, my mom always encouraged me to honor him as my father.

Growing up, he could be funny and silly toward me, so I didn’t understand the full extent of what he’d done until I was older. He always had an excuse, when he assaulted her boyfriend he said he thought he was an intruder. He never came to my school funtions and was only around if it served a purpose to hurt my mom in some way. When I turned 19 and found out the truth, I went no contact, and went to therapy. After years of no contact, I eventually reconciled with him and we started rebuilding our relationship. We never talked about the past because if we do, he always tells the story as if he was the victim.

When I married my husband, we planned two ceremonies, one with each side of the family because it was hard to keep him in the same room as my mom and.. maybe this was selfish of me but I didn't want him to ruin yet another thing for my mom, shes been through enough. My mom said she supports my decision either way (combined or seperate weddings). My dad knew about the plans and agreed it would be best theyre not in the same room. I set a date for both ceremonies and deposits were paid. My moms came first and it went without a hitch. Then it came time to do my dads 4 months later however I became seriously ill and was hospitalized multiple times a month. It was honestly a scary time for me. He told me my health mattered more, so we agreed to cancel his ceremony. I was broken up about it, I was excited to see him and my extended family on his side.

Years later, he saw pictures from my mom’s ceremony and accused me of deliberately excluding him. I showed him our old messages with confirmation, but he got angrier, cursed me out, and insulted my mom. I eventually stopped contacting him to let him cool down.

Months later called to tell him I was pregnant, he hung up on me. After I tried again, he finally picked up and I told him the news, hoping we could reconcile for the sake of the grandkids. He told me he doesnt care and that he had no use for me in his life unless I admitted I intentionally excluded him from my wedding. I reminded him we canceled because I got ill and the door was always open if he wanted to talk. He then told me to keep it closed and hung up on me.

I haven’t spoken to him since. I keep thinking about the commandment to honor your father and mother. Part of me feels guilty for not apologizing, but I genuinely don’t believe I did anything wrong. I’ve tried repeatedly to rebuild this relationship, and I feel like I’m being punished for something that never happened.

Am I sinning by not reconciling with him? Am I failing God by maintaining this distance? I’m scared that I’m not honoring my father the way I should, and I don’t know how to navigate this as a Christian.

CW: Sensitive Topic How Do i stay encourage?

For some weird feeling, i think there is a spiritual block over my life. I cannot seem to move forward in my relationships, in life and in my finances. Everything seems hard for me. I know I am not the only one struggling and the plans I may have for my life is not what God may have for me.

But Genuinely, these thoughts of giving up is getting louder, and everyday feels like a struggle to continue. I have had to be strong ever since I was a child. I have had to over come poverty, sexual assault and harassment, family abuse physically and mentally.

Now as an Adult, it feels like it is a never ending cycle. Now, I believe in GOD but it seems like things have not yet shifted for me for years. No progress, I often feel like I am talking 10 steps back every time I take one step forward.

Christian parents of teens and young adults, is their approach to dating looking different from past generations?

Just curious if the societal trends I’m hearing about Gen Z and Gen Alpha are also happening within the church.

Are your teens and young adult kids approaching dating in a different way from the norms of your generation?

Alternatively if you’re a teen or young adult, I’d like to hear your (SFW) approach to this topic.

Edit: I’m also curious if there’s a marked difference between denominations/streams of the church, so feel free to include info on that if you’re willing!

Baby Christian feeling separated from God at work

Hello Reddit,
New Christian here like the title says. I am new to faith and not spiritually strong at all. In fact, I am coming from a place where just a few weeks ago I spent a lot of my life actively hating Christianity (as you can imagine it’s been a long and confusing journey).

Right now i work as a barista and before God changed my heart it was great. I felt close with my coworkers and liked the job. Now they just are very bad influences to my walk with Christ. they laugh at christians and they tend to lie often/ make fun of people who fall into the spectrum of Godly people. Some are also into crystals and witchy stuff, spiritualism in general which is uncomfortable for me. I want to make it clear i am not judging them, and i don’t feel it would be as big of a problem if i were stronger in spirit but i feel very prone to sinning around them.

I was never into that stuff even as a nonbeliever but i did talk the way they do and I’m pretty ashamed of it. I had a lot of religious trauma and i was very convinced it was one big cult. It is still hard for me to wrap my brain around God being real and i still harbor a lot of resentment towards Christianity, so being at work makes me feel very tempted to go back to thinking it’s just religious psychosis and go back to my old ways. I feel very vulnerable being there and it’s not a positive experience.

the problem is that I make good money and need the job. I am in my mid twenties and I went back to school to study English with a minor in Education. I make 18 an hour plus tips, which makes me about 600 a week. I thought about being a preschool teacher or paraprofessional while i finish school but those jobs pay around minimum wage in my state, same with being a substitute teacher. I just really need to protect my soul right now, i feel this very deeply. I didn’t want to be a Christian and a part of me wrestles a lot with acceptance of the call of God. i really had made the conclusion Hs wasn’t there for a long time. I need to stop having people in my ear reminding me of my old ways, im sad to say it’s very tempting.

I really need to have enough money to live and finish my degree but every time i go to work lately i just feel so.. I don’t know dirty?? Is that a thing? I feel a heaviness that is hard to explain but i just can’t afford to leave. Any insight would be so appreciated!

Reducing Christianese-Look for presents

The last couple of days I’ve been calling blessings, presents, and honestly I feel like it’s Christmas Day.
Today’s present list (not exhaustive):
I saw some cute bunnies
A lady bird landed on my book
I saw some pretty wrens
My husband made me a nice coffee.
It freshens up the ‘count your blessings’ mantra and I feel so spoiled by God.
