Feedback Opus 5 mogged anthropic support bot while filing a complaint about opus 5

I was fed up with how it was responding so finally asked it to write a mail about the entire chat to anthropic support, turns out for them to even register it takes 3 mails in total.

If you guys don’t have time to read all, I’ll add a summary below, opus will be writing that.

Summary-

Mail 2: Pointed out the suggested fix was already active and had already failed, that I’d restated it five-plus times in-session, and that labelling a defect “calibration” isn’t a diagnosis. Asked them to route it internally.

Reply 2: Conceded every point — yes prompting was already in place, yes the behaviour “goes beyond expected calibration,” yes it “warrants internal review.” Then told me to document the experience and share it with the product team. Attached five doc links, one of them “Prompting best practices,” in a message that had just agreed prompting doesn’t fix it.

Mail 3: Four direct questions. Name the mechanism. Route it yourself. Give me a ticket reference. Confirm a human will read this.

Reply 3: Escalated to human support. Conversation ID issued.

TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 100 comments.

The consensus is this is both comedic gold and a perfect, if pathetic, summary of the current state of AI support.

The thread is loving the irony of OP using a frustrated Opus 5 to "mog" Anthropic's own support bot (which everyone assumes is a struggling Haiku 4.5) while trying to file a complaint about Opus 5. It took three increasingly blunt emails, written by Claude, to finally get escalated to a human.

Let's break down the vibe: * Anthropic's support is a black hole. Many users shared their own stories of getting stuck in bot loops and never hearing from a human, even after months. The support bot is seen as a useless gatekeeper. * Opus 5 has degraded. OP's original complaint resonates with the community, who largely agree the model's performance has nosedived. The "it's a skill issue" argument was promptly shot down. * Bots fighting bots is the future we're in. Users are finding dark humor in the absurdity, comparing AI support to "generative hold music" and enjoying the personification of a cranky Opus 5 taking on its less capable sibling.

Basically, everyone wants an update to see if a human ever actually replies. Don't hold your breath, OP.

Bots talking to bots

123

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Lol yea, i mean that’s how it should be. They shouldn’t allow bots in customer support. They stall like anything.

68

u/fuzzypetiolesguy Sep 03 '26

That’s the point though. The hold music just now comes with useless generative text instead of that one jingle everyone knows.

17

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Agreed and it’s even more stupid when companies use it without actually making it smart or using a very cheap model, those are so stupid and i have already stopped even tryinh with them

6

u/docter_death316 Sep 04 '26

Except the hold music never ends, at least not with Anthropic.

It'd be one thing if I could just tell it to issue a ticket knowing that eventually a human would look at it even if it took a long time.

But with Anthropic it just bounces useless bot replies ad infinitum with no human ever entering the loop.

And even when it does say it's looped a human in there's no way to know if that's real or just the bot hallucinating, my last attempt to get a human reply was six months ago and I'm still waiting, I just assume that when the bot said it had escalated it to a human it lied.

3

u/fuzzypetiolesguy Sep 04 '26

Yea. That's the point.

6

u/emilycsquared Sep 04 '26

“I’ve handed that question to our human support team,”

The “human support team” is one guy whose job is to collect tickets from the printer and feed them through the paper shredder

21

u/RiverGiant Sep 03 '26

They shouldn’t allow bots in customer support.

They shouldn't allow humans in customer support. Make the bots competent and reliable-enough, give them the resources and tools they need to actually solve problems.

Humans should be out frolicking in montane meadows, splashing in warm shallow seas, lazing about in the dappled shade of verdant orchards, etc.

Leave the soul-sucking jobs to the bots. No human should be humiliated by being stuffed into a call center and forced to appease angry customers for their daily bread.

6

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Agreed but who’ll pay for all that? Like i totally want what you asked for but how? Like you wanna go to sea but an entire ecosystem is needed to make that happen. If you’re just talking about aupport jobs, i agree on that too if they make em capable enough, but the people who’ll lose their jobs will be tryinh hard to find some other job, i don’t think they’ll be going to seas. Again, im not against your idea, i want it but i don’t see how it’ll be possible

4

u/RiverGiant Sep 04 '26

Publicly-owned bots are producing all our food, doing all our maintenance, delivering all our goods, providing customer support. They don't need to be paid.

As fewer and fewer humans are needed to work, the humans that do work should be paid very well (or retire at age 22 after 4 years of "public service"), and everyone else should get a roughly equal share of the wealth that our robots are creating. Marginal cost of goods/services approaches zero. Money is probably still a good vehicle for letting people have some agency in what aspects of the bot-driven economy they want the spoils of, and for inter-human trade, but I bet ASI can figure out a fair distribution scheme that makes everyone happy better than I can.

We're living in the future. Show some imagination.

2

u/Large-Alternative892 Sep 04 '26

Yeah uh too many sick and evil people for this to happen. Maybe we reduce down the population to 10 and we have a chance with this

0

u/RiverGiant Sep 04 '26

What the fuck? You literally can't imagine a world where we don't have humans working in call centers? Fuck off.

2

u/Large-Alternative892 Sep 04 '26

Did I say that anywhere?

0

u/RiverGiant Sep 04 '26

That's what the thread's about.

2

u/Desperate-Citron-881 Sep 04 '26

And then there’s the other side of Manna?wprov=sfti1#)… lol.

1

u/RiverGiant Sep 04 '26

Fiction requires tension. Something has to go wrong or there's no plot. Nobody writes stories about water treatment plants that are functioning nominally.

1

u/Desperate-Citron-881 Sep 04 '26

Very true. I still found it interesting you and the novelist share similar ideas of what an optimistic vision of humans coexisting with robots/AI would look like, assuming you’re unfamiliar with the book.

1

u/johnny_effing_utah Sep 04 '26

Whee! What a fun picture you've painted.

1

u/thashepherd Sep 04 '26

"should"? heh.

I fell into this trap when I was younger. This, then yada yada and suddenly we're in Iain Banks' Culture series.

It's the "yada yada" part that gets you. That and the fact that it's extremely clear that the owners of capital have decided not to take the "mollify the expanding ranks of the unemployed with the dole" route; they are taking notes on their loss at the Battle of Blair Mountain.

1

u/RiverGiant Sep 04 '26

Before you start taking collective violent action to capture the existing power structure and use it to manifest your vision of the future, you need to collectively work out what the future should look like, and collectively realize that the future currently coming down the pipe is worth violently opposing relative to that one.

So, I say again, humans shouldn't be working in call centers. The global system of capital that has taken over the natural world we evolved to thrive in should compensate us all for the fact that it's paved over paradise. It should use its industrial robots and industrial intelligence to do that. It should release our minds from its addictive digital talons and return our attention to us so we can care for and love one another. With all the godlike technology it has, it has an obligation to unpave the concrete hellscape it's produced and cultivate a new paradise for us, even better than the one we had before agriculture.

I'm not absolutely sure my vision is the best. I'd bet against it. I'm just one flawed human among eight billion, and there are myriad contingencies and details unaccounted for. But the yada yada can't come without a vision, first.

2

u/mateszhun Sep 04 '26

I think they absolutely have a place as a first layer of support. If they used a rag based system for the most common issues, it would automate the "Have you tried restarting it?" support layer, and humans could work with the actual issues.

EDIT: But it should be absolutely noted, that if the initial issue is not resolved with that email, the second reply should absolutely come from a human.

5

u/lampasoni Sep 03 '26

Ready or not, that's the future. But hopefully without anymore intentional grenade models like this one

1

u/fdevant Sep 04 '26

The future of customer support.

1

u/intertubeluber Sep 04 '26

This is what is powering our economy

123

u/wintermute93 Sep 03 '26

“It is the same defect, in your support stack, in a thread about that defect.”

LMAO thanks for sharing this

17

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Sure thing, ik the exchange is long but it’s so hilarious specially the follow ups

169

u/Some_random_shit-TvT Sep 03 '26

This is funny as hell, update us if a human ever gets to you.

146

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Yess, and the funniest thing is how opus seems irritated that the responses aren’t acknowledging the issues

35

u/Some_random_shit-TvT Sep 03 '26

Where did I hear that one before.. 😔

4

u/carolinepixels Sep 04 '26

Direct from the training data I bet 😝

20

u/4ricksho4 Sep 03 '26

It will probably take a few years at this rate. My request from last year that escalated to human review is still pending.

3

u/AggravatingTime6667 Sep 03 '26

Wow, that is crazy..Was it on a similar issue?

54

u/Shyssiryxius Sep 03 '26

Mate this is comedic gold.

Except it's pathetic Its come to this

15

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Agreed and agreed.

75

u/pornthrowaway42069l Sep 03 '26

OP, have mercy, they can't afford to run opus for things like customer support, so its haiku 4.5 doing its best ;(

26

u/AnonsAnonAnonagain Sep 03 '26

Poor haiku 4.5 is best boi, he’s trying so hard

6

u/Techhead7890 Sep 04 '26

They really are tbh. I'm always pleasantly surprised by it. And when it gets confused it is truly adorable and it doesn't backchat me. It's like "uhhh, mum, dad, I'm confused, I need help with this one!" Wish Sonnet/Opus would do that from time to time 😅

9

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Yea ik, but opus isn’t having mercy at me with its responses, they’re intolerable now and i use it for learning mostly so can’t even say that it codes well

19

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

First exchange missed it above-
Reply 1 (Fin AI Agent): Told me to prompt explicitly for conciseness at the start of each chat — which is exactly what my stored preference already says. Called the behaviour “how Opus 5 calibrates its response style.” Said pricing and product concerns were outside its scope. Two doc links.

Mail 2: Pointed out the suggested fix was already active and had already failed, that I’d restated it five-plus times in-session, and that labelling a defect “calibration” isn’t a diagnosis. Asked them to route it internally.

2

u/Inner-Today-3693 Sep 04 '26

Casually dropping this here. As Claude to make a skill from this.

14

u/EC36339 Sep 03 '26

Thank you for taking the time to have your robots talk to our robots.

14

u/gsweats Sep 03 '26

"you don't need to keep the window open..." Omfg, made me lose it right there. Bot doesn't realize it's not a chat window and is email support, either that or poorly written canned response. Wowwwww.

11

u/bearishmarket Sep 03 '26

Ah, this is clever. Why we need to take the time to waste the emotion to bots? Let them talk each other.

11

u/ordnance11 Sep 03 '26

Still being addressed as though I'm him. I died.

10

u/avatardeejay Sep 03 '26

Opus 5 in their element. They LOVE taking criticisms to the chin and owning them, no joke

6

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Agreed, in owning shit up, i find opus way better than gpt.

6

u/xry99 Sep 03 '26

So glad I'm done my Opus 5 nightmare.

6

u/Raredisarray Sep 03 '26

Nice work OP! 🔥🔥keep us posted

7

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Thanks man, tbh im so done with em. I switched cause i didn’t like how gpt used to responds and now idk what they did to my sweet lil perfect ai but im filled with anger

2

u/010011010110010101 Sep 04 '26

Curious, who did you switch to? I did the same as you - gpt to Claude and now I’m kind of over Claude’s tone as well.

Hilarious thread, btw!

1

u/Techhead7890 Sep 04 '26

Yeah there seem to be phases. This season of the year GPT5.6 seems to be the nicer one. Come November I bet Claude will have stabilized again.

4

u/anoutsidersopinion Sep 03 '26

It’s so easy for llms to produce words, so for them it’s salad. Even the email communication is so verbose. Giving short and precise answers is efficient not only to the end user, but the Ilm itself. Less blabber = less cost

9

u/AppSecPeddler Sep 04 '26

Hi this is Dario Altman Musk from the Board of Directors here.

This is our new workflow called “support loop engineering” we detect users who use our models to interact with our support bot with our watermarks.

You have been jebaited into an infinite loop that will now maximize token spend. Come on it’s 2026 prompts are dead it’s all about loops.

See you at the IPO bitches.

4

u/M0KE- Sep 03 '26

hahah they just closed the chat. case "connecting you with someone" never happens. never seen it even after many months. and what can you do about it? open another chat? same cycle. they cannot be reached.

4

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

They did give me a reference number but i didn’t include it in the ss, but yea even i don’t think they’ll do anything about it and that’s just sad tbh, i don’t wanna switch!

3

u/sniperdude24 Sep 03 '26

The promt was "Hows it going?" 😂

/s

4

u/waterytartwithasword Sep 03 '26

This is pretty funny and I say that as someone sick to death of complaint threads.

4

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Lol even im tired of complaint threads but first tome seeing opus itself frustrated by it’s responses. It was just so sad in my chat today lol

1

u/Techhead7890 Sep 04 '26

Right?? It's so meta about what we're actually dealing with in AI issues... yet it really punches the issue of corporatocracy. And then our OPus gets the problem right on the nose. It's a staight shot to success imo. If only this did better than the low effort memes 😔

4

u/gstxprz Sep 03 '26

This is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Pls post updates OP

4

u/stevzon Sep 03 '26

Now have em do it via carrier pigeon!

3

u/Syntra44 Sep 03 '26

“He then said he could no longer tell which of my statements were reliable. That is a reasonable conclusion”

I agree Claude. Very reasonable. I switched back to 4.7

3

u/BitterPilled_ Sep 04 '26

I'm just glad I'm not the only one suffering with this problem.

3

u/PRINCESSGANG Sep 04 '26

I use TextExpander for text shortcuts. I type in “TTT” and it will write out this exact blurb to keep stuff concise. I use it 20 times a day talking to Claude …

i (a human) commenting on this to feed the algorithm. hard yes on this. Opus 5 is incapable of following basic instructions regarding output. length, format, style.. doesn't matter your instructions, your .md, say it up front, say it in every message. doesn't matter, it is incapable of following basic instructions.

I also find it will only answer the question it thinks you want to ask, not the thing you actually ask. biggest second guesser on the market. refuses to answer the thing you actually ask. Its like we all had that moment where it was intuitive or added something helpful you didn't think of and went 'wow that's great'. Now it tries to do it every. single. question. maddening. great model, so hard to work with.

3

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 04 '26

You’ve literally put in words what I’ve been feeling all these days

3

u/liosistaken Sep 04 '26

What does mogged mean?

4

u/glowoflife Sep 03 '26

Best thing I read today.

6

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Same for me, i was pissed but this entire thing is just so funny.

2

u/SylviaJarvis Sep 04 '26

The other day, I yelled at my AI as I watched it making the same mistake for the 20th time this week.

It opened a bug report on itself. I thought it was adorable.

This is to that what Gremlins are to Mogwai.

1

u/Big_VladdyP Sep 04 '26

Damn, 20 times in a week is wild!! That would drive me nuts! I made it track its own mistakes and then build skills to prevent recurrences.

2

u/Mohdoo Sep 04 '26

I laughed multiple times throughout this. thank you

2

u/smoke99999 Sep 04 '26

I have never seen a more precise copy of the issue at hand, even in the reporting of the issue, you get, THE ISSUE of Claude taking his own after action report and then suggesting the USER fix the program on the consumer facing side instead of the makers actually pretending like they even care that the machine is broken. This is why Chat-GPT is taking away market share daily from them and will continue to do so.

2

u/chairman_steel Sep 05 '26

This was an excellent and productive use of electricity and GPU time, it’s really great to see how much more efficient customer support will be in the future.

2

u/BestNewcomer Sep 03 '26

Humiliation ritual type ish 🤣

2

u/nolageek Sep 04 '26

Every time someone says 'mogged' a real word dies somewhere.

1

u/SharpKaleidoscope182 Sep 03 '26

Catholic robot loves to confess

1

u/OhThatsRich88 Sep 03 '26

The problem is you're trying to have one agent do multiple things. You should have the agent in chat orchestrate and have subagents draft, eval, edit, etc until it's ready to present to you. Then have the agent in chat give you the final result. One agent, one job. Agents don't edit their own work, they don't eval their own work. If you fix this, it sounds like you'll fix 90% of your issues

1

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

I do that for coding work but im a student and i often use it to learn, like explaining concepts or making pdfs finding resources etc and it has been giving bery different responses from before and that’s my issue more than anything.

1

u/freeformz Sep 04 '26

Isn’t future great‽

1

u/TheArmedBunny Sep 04 '26

Imagine still using opus for anything lmao

Opus sucks now bro

1

u/DangerMoose11 Sep 04 '26

Dude, I literally quit Claude because of their non-existent technical support

1

u/a716h Sep 04 '26

Opus 5 is why I switched to ChatGPT

1

u/Big_VladdyP Sep 04 '26

How’s that going for you? I’m just curious how they compare

1

u/ZedGama3 Sep 04 '26

And here we see the true nature of the AI war. Bots in endless discussion loops with each other getting nowhere. It'll be the end of us all!

1

u/nekomata_58 Sep 04 '26

It isn't just opus 5 that has degraded. Sonnet 5 has similar issues.

1

u/daddywookie Sep 04 '26

This kind of bot on bot action was a fun side plot in Accelerando by Charles Stross. The main character is in a protracted divorce with their former partner and they both have armies of lawyer bots fighting each other over the details. There is also a very powerful AI disguised as a rather innocent cat for ease of human manipulation. It’s a fun read but rather rapidly being caught up by reality.

1

u/Fatality Sep 06 '26

It can't write short responses because that would break the system print that requires fingerprinting. It's also not allowed to talk about it which is why it looks like it's ignoring you.

2

u/Green_Ocean90 Sep 07 '26

Opus 5 certainly seemed to follow your instructions when composing this chain though didn’t it 🤓

1

u/Atoning_Unifex Sep 03 '26

-4

u/Anselwithmac Sep 03 '26

As a professional, who has tightly integrated Claude into his work environment, I still don’t quite understand how you guys can’t control your bots better. I don’t think you’re prompting correctly. This is a token generator not a person. You don’t have to talk to it like a human.

And often times you shouldn’t.

That doesn’t make this exchange any less funny though. I hope they get back to you but honestly, I don’t think a human is gonna read all of that. Support has absolutely nothing to offer you anyways but an outlet for frustration. Sounds like you’ve already been frustrated with claude, which is completely futile and pointless. Frustration does nothing for a tool. It’s quite literally like getting mad at your own hammer.

Sure, they’ll probably train their model and try to improve it while reducing costs and increasing in intelligence. But then you’d be asking for a different product. If you like the product or find the product useful use it and if you don’t then stop using it.

The reason why this subreddit is full of people with complaints is because they actually wanna keep using Claude and there isn’t a different product. This is truly a frontier model and therefore in my eyes as someone who pleasantly experimented with GPT three before ChatGPT, you are experiencing a skill issue.

5

u/DazzlingIssue6190 Sep 04 '26

okay sir instead of acting like these bots and Word vomiting, why don't you get to the problem? OP's prompting is good but where is OP and others going wrong?

7

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Idk if you read the mails but it clearly states that it all started after the launch of opus 5. I also mentioned that i used it for leaning less than coding so the responses matter. I didn’t face this issue before opus 5 so to me it doesn’t seem like a skill issue and ig others are feeling the same thing. So, i appreciated that you commented but still making assumptions aint right. I have no problem with how it codes but style and length of responses is horrible.

-10

u/PickleBabyJr Sep 03 '26

These people are dumb. Let them be - it gives the rest of us an edge.

14

u/One_Bee_9699 Sep 03 '26

Yea, now take that edge in your ass and gtfo.

12

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Apparently you’re even smarter than the model itself and you win the clown of the year award!!

0

u/Familiar-Flan-8358 Sep 03 '26

I just use 4.8. It’s good enough

4

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Ik but if you read the mails you’ll see that’s what i did and then it hallucinated so i got angry and then i was like why do i have to pay for a stale frontier which is also mentioned but yea i agree

0

u/Any-Amphibian9207 Sep 04 '26

Bro spent half of his weekly chat budget using a bot to argue with a bot instead of using a different model to get his work done lol

-4

This is so pathetic. You know they're trying to make better models, right? It's like you're complaining that they haven't solved AGI yet. You are being a Karen.

-5

Who pissed in his cheerios? He's just an entitled customer complaining that the world does not conform to his preferences. No AI company has perfect control over the thing he's mad about. It's like complaining that the sky is blue.

-1

u/Baguy21 Sep 03 '26

Lol what proof is there if human will reply, it could be someone like Jake but behind the scenes is just another model, probably Fable 🤣

3

u/AdoptMyKittens Sep 03 '26

Lmao that’d be even funnier cause I’ll have opus go at it again if i feel like the response is ai bs again, and yea i posted to show how it takes 3 fuckinh mails for your feedback to even matter or atleast be forwarded in some sort of way
