🟩What can I do in Colorado Springs?

This question is asked almost daily and is easy to answer. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with these posts: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/search?q=things+to+do&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

Another post: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/1r6dh7j/advice_wanted_for_upcoming_trip_to_the_springs/

The short answer is: hike, bike, eat food, and enjoy the scenery. There are a lot of activities within an hour or more of Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs is more family or activity focused and you'll have better success finding night clubs up north.

Popular attractions in Colorado Springs includes 7 Falls, Helen Hunt falls, Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Open Space, The Paint Mines, Cave of the Winds, and more. If you don't mind driving south to Canon City you visit the Royal Gorge or even check out the "mountain towns" around the area.

🟩I'm thinking about moving to Colorado Springs! What should I know?

DO NOT MOVE HERE UNLESS YOU HAVE A JOB LINED UP.

Example of someone who moved here. Check out the time stamps at the time the photo was taken. Months without a job.

We've seen it time and time again on this sub-reddit where someone moves, doesn't have a job, and then becomes homeless.

A recent example: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/1jp66pa/looking_for_work_and_becoming_desperate/

One example: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/comments/nqr9kq/homeless_resources/

🟩What kind of job can I get in Colorado Springs?

The moderators make a quarterly post and sticky it to the top of the sub-reddit where people post available jobs in the Springs: https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/search?q=%27Who%27s+Hiring+in+Colorado+Springs%27&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

If you have a Clearance, or work for the military, you shouldn't have a problem finding a job. Colorado Springs is a military town with the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Schriever Air Force Base, and Peterson Air Force Base. This means that jobs working for the government are a dime a dozen but you need the proper credentials to work there.

Otherwise, construction is booming and Amazon is building a facility in the Springs. There are other jobs available but competition is fierce and you need to do what you can to stand out!

🟩Do I need a car OR can I ride my bike / use public transportation to get around the city?

The answer is likely yes to a car and no to the bike/transportation. With everything, there are exceptions such as living and working in the same area. But for the most part, it takes at least 25 minutes to get anywhere in the Springs, and the layout of the town is better suited for vehicular use.

🟩Is Colorado Springs affordable?

Please define affordable. If you're moving from California where a 2/3 bedroom, 1,500 sqft, house is going for 800k or more, then sure. It's affordable.

🟩What's the cost of living like in Colorado Springs?

https://old.reddit.com/r/ColoradoSprings/search?q=living+in+cos&restrict_sr=on&sort=relevance&t=all

🟩What is the median house price in Colorado Springs?

As of February 2024, the median house is a 3 bedroom house that LISTS at 430k. List is not equal to sale price and it's quite common for houses to go for much more with appraisal gaps.

🟩I'm thinking about moving and looking for information on apartments

🟩How is the crime rate in XXX area?

Events No Kings March today at Acacia Park

The fourth No Kings rally in Colorado Springs will kick off Saturday at noon.
Though primarily focused on protesting President Donald Trump and his policies, organizers say the Saturday rally is emphasizing getting the vote out early. The rally will take place at Acacia Park and at City Hall. It starts at noon and concludes at 2:30 p.m.

Speakers will include comedian and commentator Paula Poundstone, Sky and Amanda Roberts — brother and sister-in-law of Virginia Roberts Giuffre — and Kyle McGuffey, a 14-year-old who has become a neighborhood advocate against the proposed Project Taurus data center.

Advice Wings Doesn’t offer all their Services to Ent Customers

I called Wings about construction loan rates, and they told me those aren’t offered in Colorado, even with the merger.

I understand there are regulatory hurdles but you feel you would have worked those out BEFORE you decided to do the rebrand and make all the Ent employees remind you they are part of Wings.

Advice Recommendations for Honest, Reliable, and Reasonably Priced HVAC/Boiler Companies in Colorado Springs?

• Upvotes

I'm looking for recommendations for a reliable HVAC company in Colorado Springs that actually knows how to work on boilers, does quality work, charges reasonable prices, and doesn't disappear when something goes wrong.

About 2-3 weeks ago, we had R Buck replace a zone valve on our boiler system. They were already expensive, but we went ahead with the repair. Unfortunately, since yesterday, our boiler has been continuously sending heat to the zone controlled by the newly replaced valve, even though the thermostat is turned off. The temperatures at those particular baseboard registers are ranging from 120-138*F, and the heat will not stop.

We've tried contacting R Buck about the issue, but they haven't answered or returned our calls. Considering how recently they performed the repair, their lack of response is incredibly frustrating.

We're also considering replacing or upgrading our boiler, as it's nearing 30 years old. However, the replacement quote we received from R Buck was insanely expensive, and after this experience, I have absolutely no interest in giving them any more of our business.

I'm looking for recommendations for companies that:

- Actually specialize in boilers and hydronic heating systems, not just standard forced-air HVAC.

- Are honest, dependable, and stand behind their work.

- Charge fair, reasonable prices without taking advantage of homeowners.

- Respond when there's an issue, especially with a recent repair.

- Can handle both repairs and potentially a complete boiler replacement.

I'm not looking for the absolute cheapest company. I'm willing to pay for quality work, but I don't want to be ripped off or ignored after spending a significant amount of money.

Who have you personally used and had good experiences with? I'd especially appreciate recommendations from people who have older boiler systems.

Also, if there are companies you would strongly recommend avoiding, I'd appreciate hearing about those experiences as well.

Thanks in advance!

Events Free Cyber Lab Night at UCCS on Nov. 4. Hands-on AWS workshop + live demos

Post image
25 Upvotes

The first Cyber Lab Night went really well, so we’re doing it again on November 4 at UCCS.

The main event is a tech show-and-tell: short live demos from people showing off things they’ve built, broken, tested, or discovered. No PowerPoint presentations and no sales pitches.

Before that, we’re doing a free hands-on workshop where everyone gets their own Linux server in AWS and we’ll harden it together.

It’s free! RSVP if willing so I can ensure we have enough seating.

I also finally made a page for the group with photos, updates, upcoming demos, and workshop info:
https://www.linkedin.com/company/cyber-lab-night/

Would love to see some more Colorado Springs tech people there.

Events Rocky Horror Picture Show by The Independent Film Society Use of AI

I've debated for a bit about whether it was worth posting this, but it kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.

Opening The Rocky Horror Picture show, of all things, when it's put on by the Independent Film Society, of all other things, with an AI generated tribute video and AI generated tribute song to Tim Curry is tacky at best but more just absolutely insane to me.

That entire space and that entire culture is about creativity, artistic expression, and going against norms. The movie was a low-budget film that they made with love and craftsmanship and skill despite what they were working with. The cast members and the audience members who go every year put so much individual effort into every aspect of their costumes and makeup. It's all about intentional, human, and personal artistic expression. And that's not even to mention all of the stuff happening in Hollywood with actors refusing to sign away their voices and likenesses to AI. I'm pretty sure Tim Curry himself would have hated that.

To open all of that with generative AI is completely missing the mark. Take the entire culture of the show and it's history and make something truly intentional and artistic as tribute. Pour your creativity into it. Even just take a minute to voice his importance to everyone using your *own* voice.

Don't just type a prompt, throw the result on the screen, and then move on. It felt disrespectful to Curry, to RHPS, and to the audience and why they're there.

I can't say for certain that this is what caused it. But that was the most docile crowd for Rocky Horror that I've ever been a part of. People were hesitant to stand up for even the Time Warp of all things!

I don't know. I'm not calling for a boycott of The Independent Film Society. I'm not calling for a boycott of the particular performer who played Frank-N-Furter. I understand wanting to make something heartfelt and worthy of Tim Curry this year of all years.

I'm just asking for artistic societies and artistic performers to read the room a little bit. Especially when you're giving a memorial to someone who is so important to everyone that was in that room because of their artistry and the human connection they've gifted that group.

Advice BoneDry Services Reviews

Can anyone who has had work done by bonedry services let me know what their experience was like?

I’m dealing with water mitigation & getting conflicting information from them & my insurance. They are pushing me not to even talk to my insurance & my insurance sighed that they send so little info throughout the process that it frequently gets claims denied.

I’m in a very uncomfortable situation where both group is incentivized to tell me whatever will get them more money from me. Their yelp and google reviews are also pretty conflicting. Not saying they’re necessarily bad. Their tech was very nice. I just worry they’re catastrophizing the damage for a bigger payout & to get me to rush forward. Thanks!

Advice 8th Street

When will the nightmare of road construction on 8th Street near Walmart end? There's only one way to get in or out. Today it was so backed up on Abbott, it took me four light cycles to get through. It looks like they've finished the portion of 8th where the South entrance is but it's still closed. Why can't they re-open it and/or temporarily change the timing of the lights to make things run smoother? I'm ready to go out of my way to another Walmart just to avoid that hellscape.

Leanna Firestone is coming through Colorado Springs with Sydney Sprague on November 10. Her songwriting gets very specific about family stuff, relationships, and the things you probably meant to keep in your notes app!

“Least Favorite Only Child” is a good introduction if you haven’t heard her.

The show’s at What’s Left Records and it’s all ages.

Help Wanted Signal issue w/ T Mobile?

I’ve been trying to figure out if this is a me issue or others experience too, multiple time now where I’m out and about (Interquest area, malls, downtown, powers (north of Peterson, etc all COS proper) my signal drops to 1-2 bars sometimes even SOS mode, even sometimes where it has a bar, nothing actually loads. So I’m sitting there waiting for my GPS to come back up to go home. It’s happened often enough and in different areas I feel like I don’t like in the 21st century, super weird…
