Help Wanted Studying for learner permit

Hi everyone, I’m 21 and I’m currently studying for the Learner Permit. However, the DMV website only seems to provide a 36-page PDF Driver Handbook and the information there doesn’t seem to be very comprehensive and completely.

So, my question:
- Does any of us have any experience with a DMV permit test learning app and could recommend me one with good price and good practices?
- Do you recommend me to go to driving school to learn for the permit test?
- How do people usually studying for the permit test?

Thanks in advance!

Enter the Dream.

Athens, Ohio. 2012. Summer is hot, the music is loud, and just beyond this Appalachian town, the festival is already getting wild.

In this seductive adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare’s classic comedy collides with the electric, anything-goes culture of 2000s contemporary music festivals. Producers hold the power. Contracts control careers. And Hermia, a rising singer, refuses to let anyone own her voice – or her future.

Out beyond the lights, the festival becomes something stranger: intoxicating, chaotic, euphoric. Music pulses through the night. Desire takes over. Boundaries blur. The rules of the everyday world begin to dissolve.

But these woods have their own history. The land remembers. The cryptids and fae that roam these ancient forests are not just magical creatures – they are stewards and witnesses. And every beautiful dream has a price.

Advice Baseboard heat vs space heaters

I’m a renter in an older (early 1900s) ~900 sq ft house. I’m planning to cover the windows with that plastic wrap that you blow dry to seal, and will be using rope caulk for any other cracks in doorways/floorboards. The home has baseboard heaters, which I turned on for the first time today; however, I haven’t been able to get the house above 64 degrees even with the baseboard heater temp set at its max (90 degrees). The baseboards are located throughout the house, primarily on the east side. There is only one thermostat so I don’t have control over which baseboards I turn on - it’s all or nothing. It’s been running for several hours now. I’m a little worried about having an enormous electric bill when it gets colder, just to have the house barely comfortable…would space heaters throughout the house be more efficient/better bang for my buck?

Events El Classico/Real Madrid v Barcelona Places to Watch

Hi! I am looking for a place to watch El Classico on Oct 25. It's on ESPN+ and on a Sunday so I am assuming a lot of sports bars will have NFL games on. Anyone know a place that would show it?

Also, to my La Liga/Champions League/European Leagues football fans, want to be friends??? Not enough of us here. :-)

What are they trying to build right next door?

Buc-ee’s has officially filed its site development plan with El Paso County for a new travel center at Interstate 25 and County Line Road near Monument. [1]

Current Project Status

  • Site Plan Submission: El Paso County accepted the official site development plan (file PPR2628) on October 12, 2026. [1]
  • Proposed Facility Details: The plans feature a 74,000-square-foot store, two fuel canopies, about 810 parking spaces, and new traffic signals at both I-25 ramps on a 30.8-acre parcel. [1]
  • Timeline: Construction is tentatively planned to run from spring 2027 to fall 2028. [1]
  • Zoning Decision & Lawsuits: The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners voted 4–1 in August 2026 to allow the project under a "similar use" pathway in the C-1 commercial zoning district. However, the project continues to face local pushback and a lawsuit from opponents challenging the county's zoning ruling, alongside a formal objection letter from the Monument Town Council. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • Approval Process: County staff will evaluate and decide on the site plan without a public hearing. [1]

Advice I'm turning 26 on the 6th and I'm always horrible at deciding what I want to do for my birthday!! Any ideas on activities, food, etc are welcome. The Springs or Denver is also welcome.

Seriously, almost no restrictions. I just want to hang out with my wife!

Edit: Thank you all so much for the great suggestions and birthday wishes! The past couple of years, celebrating my birthday has been difficult cause planning and then major decision fatigue so I appreciate every comment. I know I'll enjoy anything I get to do with my wife so I just need to keep that in mind at the end of the day!

Advice Can YOU remember the Co. Springs Cable TV Channel numbers from your childhood?!

I was just thinking of this. When we were younger WHAT were the TV Channels on cable here in Colorado Springs. Ya'll definitely remember those black Century Link boxes with the little red LED numbers!

From my memory you have the standard

2-UPN/CW
3-Fox
5-NBC
10- CBS KKTV
12 - ABC

Then I go blank!

I remember

35- MTV
49 - Cartoon Network

and maybe

51 - VH1

It's sad, that that's all I remember. I have some memories that I'm not quite sure of

21 - WGN
62 - Comedy Central???
6 - PBS?

And that's IT! What channels did you remember because they were one of the channels you watched constantly?

Events October 15, 1984

October 15, 1984, Monday Night Football, the Green Bay Packers visited the Denver Broncos. It snowed and snowed and snowed all through the game, the yard lines and hash marks were invisible. The Broncos scored twice before the offense ever took the field. It was a clown show, the Broncos held on for the win. It became known as the Broncos Blizzard or the Snow Bowl. Got up the next morning to THREE FEET of snow on the ground here in town, four feet south of town.

Politics DO NOT support the D11 school bond!

This is the school district for downtown and main Colorado Springs. The schools are crumbling and absolutely do need this money but do not trust this Superintendent and his Deputy with that money.

El Paso county is a Project 2025 test case and the dark money behind this Superintendent already broke up the master agreement with the teachers. People are promoted that do not have the experience to take care of these facilities so they always say yes to whatever these two want.

Basic rules around safety, maintenance, hiring processes are all thrown out the window. The district’s budget hasn’t been aligned for years.

Vote no on the bond so this superintendent can go.

Advice Boudoir Shoot Recs

Hi y'all, looking for recommendations on local professional and reputabile Boudoir photographers in the area, maybe someone you've had personal experience with!

I'd appreciate someone skilled in an emphasis on classic 1950's pin-up style, modern pin-up boudoir, and/or vintage bombshell type vibes. I did search for previous posts regarding this subject and haven't found a post or answer newer than 2 years.

Really this is something I've never done before but really looking to try something new! (Someone who can handle a nervous noob is a big plus..) thank you!

News Remembering my mom, Jeni Kelly -- and the unanswered questions surrounding her 2015 death

Post image
483 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m posting this here because my mom, Jeni Kelly, was living in Colorado Springs when she passed away in September 2015.

My mom was one of the most loving, compassionate people you could ever meet. She owned a flower shop back in Texas before she moved here, loved animals, and had a huge heart for helping anyone who needed it. She was my safe place, and I miss her every day.

Her death was officially ruled a suicide, but there are circumstances surrounding her case that I have never been able to get clarity on.

Just eleven days before her death, local police responded to a domestic violence incident at her home where her husband strangled her. According to police records, she was terrified and had tried to call for help. Just days before she died, she expressed fear for her life. When she passed, responding EMS and initial reports noted details that raised serious questions about the scene, but those were never fully explored in the final report.

With the help of a very talented writer, I am sharing her story with the hope that the CSPD will decide to reopen the case and try to make this right. In this in-depth investigative article, we examine her life, the official police and coroner records, and the broader questions around how suicide cases are handled.

Read the article here.

Additionally, her story will be featured on tomorrow’s (October 14th) episode of the Book of the Dead podcast for anyone who prefers to listen.

If you live in the Springs or care about how local investigations handle domestic violence cases, thank you for reading this. She deserved so much more time, and I will do everything I can to make sure she isn't forgotten.

Advice Electronics Repair Groups? Hobbyist Groups?

I'm trying to repair a switched mode power supply for a powered PA speaker and have hit a dead end. I isolated the problem to the high voltage side but I can't figure out whats wrong and don't have an oscilloscope to do further diagnostics. I wanted to meet up with someone more knowledgeable than me. Are there any groups or cooperatives locally that do electronic repair?

Really I would love for there to be a repair collective out here that would help share tools, resources and knowledge. I like the idea of using my knowledge and abilities to help others and also to get help when I am out of my depth. I've heard those things exist but I have no idea where to find them. Is that a thing anywhere out here?
