Makeup How to make face appear more feminine?

Post image

Hello, I am a Male and tried cosplaying Miyabi from Zenless Zone Zero. My face shape makes me look too masculine. Other than plastic surgery is there another way for me to look more like a girl?

Other people might give you actual advice, but imo you look feminine enough to me?? honestly without having read that you identify as a man, I don’t think I would have guessed 🤷‍♀️

Agreed, I’m a straight cis man and thought this was a woman afraid of not looking feminine enough before I read it.

For actual advice I’d say makeup can do insane things to someone’s facial features.

You already look fem to me, but if you personally feel that you need to look more, you could try contouring. It’s a makeup technique that drag performers perfected, but is also popular with cis-gender women. With highlights and shadowing, you can give your face the appearance of being slimmer/softer/whatever look you’re going for.

That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking. Just needs some contouring work, otherwise fire

do look into your face shape when you are going to contour and highlight. there is some guides online but ill include some link

You look feminine to me, but some gentle contouring would exaggerate femininity more

Looking at your features, you are the perfect person for this tutorial

your wig is also not helping you out here; those heavy side pieces cut off your face and make it look harsher and more elongated when what you want is to try and broaden the cheekbone area. Thin those out and make the bang part wider so the side pieces start further back.

I immediately read you as feminine. I think that the makeup and hair already works well!

Contour is what alter the face shape. I still don't fully understand how to use it properly, so I just use it whenever a tutorial says so

Your face shape is lovely! You can add more blush, probably a natural peach color. Applying higher near your eyes can lift the face. You van apply bronzer on your forehead, then cotour with a cooler shadow tone along jawline and cheekbones. Contouring tutorials are helpful to show you where and how to blend it properly. Other than that you look fantastic!

Change the way you smile for photos - seriously! A lot of transgender people pass as their target gender a lot better by just observing the public and adjusting the way we stand/sit/gesture/smile

u/Aialya May 16 '26

You read as a girl to me as a glance, and that seems to be the general consensus so I wouldn't worry about it too much

u/well_listen May 16 '26

Look up contour tutorials! They can help you achieve a more feminine or masculine look on a short term, no-commitment basis. However, if you're going to wear the wig with the cosplay make sure you've got a good setting spray or powder- don't want the makeup to rub off on your wig

u look very feminine, u may be overanalyzing your features. your chin/jaw is not the softest but it’s not specially masculine either (and is very nice looking btw), if u want to distract from it though, lip makeup that helps to make them look plumper or liner and gloss will work to redirect the attention to them

5

u/SenorSnuggles May 16 '26

I looked at the character, it seems she has a relatively square face - your features make you look quite a bit like her already, but contouring your chin to seem shorter will help shorten the rest of your face! You can take a big foundation or blush brush and pat it in your contour, then at about a finger above the bottom of your chin press and pull down, then blend it sideways into your jaw.

You have a pretty face already but here are some more makeup tips. If you're comfortable with contact lenses, you could try out the bigger lenses ones that are popular with lolita makeup to give you larger doe-like eyes.

Add in more eyemakeup and fake lashes to your bottom eyelashes too. Practice putting eyeliner on your upper waterline. Contouring the nose and jaw to make it look smaller is also common in cosplay makeup. Also abit more lipstick would go a long way

You can look up makeup tutorials by crossdressers. They have tips to make them look more effeminate.

2

u/psychodelka May 16 '26

You already look feminine! If I were to give some advice, I'd say try contouring the tip of your nose to make it appear smaller. Try to follow kind of a U shape.

3

u/JeiCos May 16 '26

You look fine to me. I thought you were female from the photo before I read the title. So that says something I guess lol But honestly, look up crossdressing or trans women makeup tutorials. Both of those should help. Most of it is contouring and hiding things like 5 o'clock shadow from facial hair, as some people, like myself, have the issue of it growing in faster than others.

2

u/AkiyamaMizukisNo1Fan May 16 '26

Honestly you look very much feminine. I'd say only like, you could investigate into other eyeliner techniques, more eyeshadow techniques, stuff that really changes the look of your eyes. Maybe contouring if you haven't already.

Other than that, you look great!

u/Gold-Introduction-83 May 16 '26

You look exactly like a miyabi that just worked a 12 hour shift at hollow zero. Still beautiful, just tired af

2

u/ESCAPEDPARROT May 16 '26

I don’t think there is much you can do. Not because you don’t look feminine, but because you 1000% look like a woman in this photo. If you were to show this photo to 100 people on the street, every single one of them would assume you were a woman.

A lot of people are suggesting more distinct cosplay makeup, but honestly the naturalistic makeup you have going on makes you read feminine. Are you even wearing that much makeup? I can’t even tell if you’re wearing lipstick.

2

u/BlankLeer May 17 '26

I'll be honest, I had to do a double take when you said you're a guy so I think you're already pretty convincing! But since you're looking for advice, I say you look into nose countoring since men tend to have larger noses due to the development of lean muscles requiring higher oxygen intake.

2

u/DestinyBolty May 16 '26

All faces are the same, masc and feminine are arbitrary labels, you are literally a mix of your parents who are mixes of theirs and so on. There is no difference

As long as you are performative to what the average person would expect in behavior no one will question you at a glance

2

u/ESCAPEDPARROT May 16 '26

Hormones change certain features, mainly related to skin and fat distribution, but the fundamental bone structure is the same. Most people just don’t realize it due to grooming.

White highlighter at corners of eyes and on tip of nose. That's about the only thing I can think of that would help. You already look feminine enough that I thought you were a girl so don't worry about it lol

1

u/Alphilica May 16 '26

Not neccesarily "look more feminine" because your shape face already helps you a lot there and the makeup is very good (better than mine imo), but, to improve further, counturing could help (one thing i am still trying to figure out myself) and also some lipstick/lipgloss and glitter (because glitter is usually seen as a "feminine" product)

1

u/Ok_Hunt5129 May 16 '26

As a woman you look perfectly feminine, in fact I was originally going to say you were a very beautiful woman!

The only advice I have is maybe contour in the nose area? I don’t really think you need it but it may help :33

1

u/AlexnkaxD May 16 '26

I thought u a girl 🫠 u already nailing it

1

u/PastelEmi May 16 '26

I thought you were a girl until I read desc so I think you're good ngl

1

u/Bakurraa May 16 '26

Are you wearing one of those dumb masks that cover your face but always fail in the eyes ?

Otherwise are your eyes okay

1

u/WorkingSea4266 May 22 '26

it's a type of makeup usually used in anime cosplay. it's to exaggerate the eyebags in a 'cute' way. i believe it's called 'aheago sal'

1

u/Bakurraa May 22 '26

Not for me

1

u/WorkingSea4266 May 23 '26

Ok! That’s fine. Some people are into it 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/Pleasant_Click_5455 May 16 '26

It's really just the wig. Miyabi's face framing doesn't accidentally cut into her face shape in the front. Like someone else said, make the bangs wider and make sure your face framing pieces lie solely on the sides of your face. Thin them out if you can. What a lot of people consider a feminine face shape is usually just rounder, rather than longer. Even just getting one cm back horizontally from your face frame will probably make you feel a lot more comfortable.

1

u/ShipperHeart May 16 '26

Contour, darker colors to trace out a more cutesy/anime face shape on your jawline and chin, and shaping your nose to be that classic tiny, anime nose

1

u/seriouslaser May 16 '26

I'm a girl and I def thought you were a girl. I'm not familiar with your cosplay but I was going to say you look like Moka from the JPop group Phantom Siita. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

1

u/WorkingSea4266 May 22 '26

wild ps fan! your stan?

1

u/DimensionAcademic585 May 16 '26

Omg I thought you were a girl before I read your para😭 You're actually doing great

1

u/Decent-Caramel-2129 May 16 '26

The makeup and hair make you look feminine enough. Instead I think mannerisms would be a better addition for you. Smiling more or less, stance adjustments, body language, confidence are what really sells a cosplay.

1

u/vesleskjor May 16 '26

My only suggestion would be contouring for a slimmer-looking jaw. Other than that, I'd never notice.

1

u/lilithlunamoon May 16 '26

change the nose contour

1

u/Da_Popato_Chisp May 16 '26

If anything contact lenses would make your eyes appear bigger in comparison to your lower face, but you do already look pretty fem

1

u/n1Ck_gUHr May 16 '26

Needs longer ears.

1

u/moldy_cock May 16 '26

I thought you were a cis woman.. 💔

1

u/ForwardTwo1362 May 16 '26

awesome miyabi cos! you look great imo and i wouldnt have noticed you were a guy if you hadn't said anything. i think the best place to start is in makeup! i've never done much but there are definitely tutorials on how to do some that makes you look more feminine. best of luck!

u/Emotional_Youth1500 May 17 '26

White liner on your waterlines (if you’re comfortable with it, not everyone is - this is the edge of the eyelids along the eyelashes near where it touches the eye) will help make your eyes appear wider

Miyabi specifically has very flat eye tops, this is important to keep in mind when doing your eyeliner (which looks great btw, but Miyabi’s eyes aren’t as rounded)

You could get contacts that make your irises appear larger - this can help “cute-ify” the eye shape

You have a really nice face shape and good sculpting, however with Miyabi’s sharper hairstyle it may help to soften your brow bone and thin your nose bridge - this will take some trial and error with shading - any average contour kit in your shade range can help with that but eyeshadow works too.

Your Miyabi is great, my only critique is her ears aren’t tall enough lol

I think bringing the side pieces down to your mouth line will help shorten your face and just make it look more anime like. Also conturing your nose and chin will help round it out and make your jaw look a bit softer. The cosplay looks so good and I think just conturing a bit more will help you get the look your going for! Also def recommend looking at tutorials, I know douyin makeup and creators are known for conturing. Hope this helps and your eye makeup looks so cute! 😊

Face tape + contouring does wonders

1

u/D25ash May 18 '26

Egirl makeup+14.5 circle lenses+ lift your brows by plucking them or bleach

1

u/SaltOrPepper1 May 19 '26

Nose contour would definitely help. Also try wearing contact lenses with bigger pupil size. It actually helps a lot.

1

u/Mes3th May 19 '26

I thout you were a girl not gonna lie

1

u/ServerCreature May 19 '26

U look nice, I’m not a fake lash user, but I think a bit of mascara would help to blend them with your real lashes

1

u/VincePendragon May 19 '26

Make it less masculine

1

u/DontHateMoi May 19 '26

You naturally read pretty fem, but maybe work on contour, highlight and blush as you face is a little flat.

1

u/Iwishtoremainanonim May 20 '26

Only thing I can think of is that the side pieces could be slightly longer and would make your face look more feminine

That’s it You already look feminine enough imo

1

u/kiiohan May 20 '26

you look perfect. cosplayer here. it’s always just 14mm contact lenses + lashes. i really recommend the lenses. they tie the whole look together

1

u/Present-Run5604 May 20 '26

girls will look you dead in the eye and ask how they can appear less "manly"

mf you're already female stfu

1

u/Present-Run5604 May 20 '26

"uh actually im male-"

no

no you're not

you girl girly girl

1

u/ultiorcslaye May 20 '26

When it comes to cross play for me its always been about hair and contour. You look quite feminine at a glace in this picture. Also ive found in picture most people look closer to their base gender then in person, even more in a head shot. The outfit rly helps sell the femininity.

1

u/GamerVirgin1 May 21 '26

Honestly before opening the post I thought you were a really pretty girl so I think you're just overthinking it

1

u/WorkingSea4266 May 22 '26

you look great! paler makeup added with contour! also, if your wig is heat-resistant, try straightening out the bangs/face frame.
