Makeup Rock-like makeup
How do I make this look more like rock is growing on my face? I don't really have SFX supplies to work with, just the Athena face paint pallette and eyeshadow palettes. My cosplay is essentially Ryland Grace from Project Hail Mary but part of him is turning Eridian?? I have no idea how to make it look more like rock.

You need highlights. The edges of the rock would have a sharp highlight on them, and they would have some lighter parts on the surface depending on where you decide your light source is. That contrast is what adds realism.
I suggest you look up photos of rock faces or rock walls and try to copy everything you see.

You could paint your face a solid color then paint rocks with cling wrap over them and stamp on your face maybe? Or even craft store stamps -I feel like with a bunch of layering and some simple shadowing you could achieve what your looking for

We detect that your question is about body paint or face paint. We advise using a body suit, long gloves, and/or tights as an alternative for the body since it's easier, faster, and cleaner. WeLoveColors is a popular seller with plenty of color options. These alternatives can be airbrushed for additional details.
Popular and trusted face/body paint brands are Kryolan, Ben Nye, and Mehron. A sponge applicator and dabbing the paint onto your skin can help create an even coat. Please remember to seal your paint with either (or both) makeup setting spray or powder.

Add some smaller rocks in there too. Don’t just focus on big ones and also take a look at facial muscle anatomy and build it around that

There’s also such thing as crackle paint or clay!!!! https://youtu.be/dT8LZ7QUw_4?is=IoWJ2eaK4lJCJdoe

Remember, highlights are just as important as shadow. A highlight along the edge will make it more 3D!! Here’s a fantastic tutorial https://youtu.be/SuYLMJnvIxA?is=dQL3-P5IknK7sZNX

my recommendation would be to do more sharp endges, rather than blending it out. It'll read more "rock"y (no pun intended)
You could also even maybe use like liquid latex or spirit gum or one of those types of appliqués (if safe for the face) to add some dimension
