How to go about styling my actual hair

So I'm finished with my Big Mom cosplay and now I just have to dye my hair and figure out how to style it the right way. The problem is I have very fine hair so I'm wondering how I should go about styling it. I bought some got2be glued spray and gel and I have various random texture sprays and stuff, I also bought one of those roll brush dryer things that I have no inking how to use either. Any tips would be appreciated!!!

Using a wig is going to be much much much much easier. Some anime styles just don't really work with just an actual human amount of hair. You can do it, maybe, but it won't look the same.

A wig will get you a more dramatic and accurate look of course, but if you’re dead set on using your own hair, do a 1970s feathered style, with loose curls going away from your face. Something like Farah Fawcett hair; there’s tutorials on TikTok.

You could do some very basic fwips in your hair, curling the ends outwards to sort of be interpreted as a "realistic" big mom look. But if you want the super exaggerated fwips like in the anime, you'll need wire and glue, which is why 90% of cosplayers use wigs instead of their real hair.

I might just buy a cheap wig and if it doesn't turn out I'll use my own hair. I didn't realize wires could be used as well that is a great idea. Do you have any recommendations on tutorials or something for a general idea to get started?

Try watching Hanie Comb videos on youtube for an idea. She is very advanced though, if you're looking for more basic tutorials, try searching "wig styling basics" on youtube.

Make a foam wig instead like some Borderland cosplayers do. It's huge wild crazy hair so it works with such an eccentric character. Plus it will be easier to wear and more comfortable.

You can probably mimic the shape (looks like its just swooped outward, which you can use the hair roller and hair spray to shape it), but keep in mind the volume wont be there, you just dont have enough hair for it.

We detect that your question is about dyeing. Please remember that you CANNOT dye something into a lighter color like dyeing a dark blue fabric yellow. For fabrics and fibers, identify whether your material is synthetic or not since it'll affect the dyes you use. If it's synthetic fabric, you need to use synthetic dyes. Do not reuse any pots or containers you used for dyeing for food preparation. For wig details, you can try using alcohol inks/markers or adding wefts of the desired color if it's lighter than the original wig color. You can also paint fabric but it'll usually stiffen the fabric even if you use a fabric medium and is not suitable for large surfaces.

For real hair, we recommend using a wig if possible, especially if you have dark hair. Spray-on colors and hair chalk do exist but can be difficult to execute and typically do not work well on dark hair.

I would be open to trying a wig, but the con I'm going to is next month and cutting and styling that would open a whole new can of worms lol. This is my first time doing any cosplay and I sewed the dress and made the hat from scratch. Trying to do a wig seems so daunting I've never even worn a wig before 😭
