Discussion There's just something about this show..

I wanted to watch this because I'm an 80's kid and loved me some Friday the 13th movies back then. And I gotta say, for my 2 cents worth, I'm loving this show.

Linda Cardellini is brilliant. The special effects are really great, no hold-backs. I'm on episode 4, but the end of episode 3 had me practically cheering.

A24 has done heaps of good stuff over the last few years. I don't know yet how its gonna end, but I could watch a few seasons of this for sure.

We horror junkies are so lucky to have so many good things come on the air for the spooky season! 🔪

Appreciation How many New Jersey/NW New Jersey locals are watching?

I’m about 30 min from Blairstown and will be headed there in November for the usual F13 screening of the first film at Roy’s Hall. Loving all of the NJ references in the series so far-watching episode four tonight.

Theory Did anyone else notice Terry (Muffin's owner in Part 2) in the background of one of the camp scenes?

I wish I could recall which episode it was, but since I binged them in just a few sittings I'm not sure which one it was - but there was a scene inside one of the larger cabins (maybe even the cafeteria) with lots of kids and counselors; in the background there was a female counselor that was dressed *exactly* like Terry in Part 2 (same white, tight, Mickey Mouse t-shirt), with a very similar hair style. If it was a coincidence, it's a pretty crazy one - have to imagine it was intentional...

Discussion Has anyone watched the first Friday the 13 after Crystal Lake?

Watching Friday the 13th through the lens of Jason being alive makes the vibe feel different. Almost like Pam and Jason are working together and explains how Pam an old woman could have done the things the killer in that movie did, like staging and moving around the bodies. Definitely give a different perspective to the first film. Makes the grieving mother angle a bit different if she knows he is alive, but he isn’t the same little boy she knew, she “lost” her Jason.

Did anyone else catch Mark Nelson, who played Ned in the original Friday the 13th, in episode 6 “Kill Them, Mommy” as Dick Wagner/the boss at the newspaper?

Theory Crystal Lake Season 2 and Beyond - A Speculative Roadmap

Based on everything we know about Season 2, it doesn’t seem like they’re going to be jumping to the events of the 1980 film just yet, and that’s okay, because there’s plenty of time with lots of loose ends to tie up.

For one, should Season 2 be greenlit, it’ll probably be centered around Pamela’s post-Season 1 insanity and what exactly she was doing all those years until the events of the first film, with Lev, Grace and possibly tying into that, in addition to expanding on the rest of the cast and even introducing a few new players as revealed by Brad Kane:

"We now know that Sackhead Jason is out in the world. Pam knows. I'm sure people in the town know. There are places to go and expand upon the town in sort of a *Twin Peaks* **David Lynch** style," he said.
"These are great peripheral characters that are not really fully explored in the movies that we get the chance to explore more here, but can explore even further.”

Given that Linda Cardinelli is currently more or less the same age Pamela was in the original films, I doubt the series will end up doing a full twenty year time jump like the movies did when it inevitably reaches the events of the 1980 film, but there will be slow buildup.

To add onto this, Brad Kane has also said that being a TV series except from the mess that is the Friday The 13th film rights, the creative team is free to adapt anything in the films produced officially by Horror Inc, and he also expressed a pretty big interest in using Tommy Jarvis and his family at some point:

"In terms of how I'd integrate the other movies, there's some Jarvis lore out there that I think needs integrating into the show too. The Jarvises, I think, were a family that spent more time at Crystal Lake than we realized," he said. "They might've been coming there for years before Tommy had his encounter with Jason. So I think there's a lot to do there."

So it’s pretty safe to say that the Jarvises would be popping up at some point as well, that all being said, here’s what I think the plan could look like.

Season 1 (Released): Jason origin, recurring character introductions, general lore establishment, etc.

Season 2: The aftermath. Pam’s life going forward, what happens to Leven, Grace, and Harmony. Loose ends with Project Argonaut, etc.

Season 3: 7-year timeskip to 1979. Would be a “week before” take on the original film with plenty of focus on the next batch of Camp Crystal Lake counselors (especially Alice), and their attempts to refurbish the area, with the finale being exactly what you’d expect.

Season 4: 5-year timeskip to 1984 with a full focus on Jason’s 5-day massacre, covering the second, third, and fourth films. Jarvis family are the overarching main characters throughout.

Season 5 - Yet another 5-year timeskip to 1989, where the now psychologically troubled Tommy Jarvis is transferred to the Pinehurst Halfway House. (I know A New Beginning is one of the more unpopular films in the series, especially because of the big twist, but it really does have a strong cast of characters, and I think they creative team would be able to pull off a very solid retelling of the events that transpired in the original film that way.)

Season 6 - I’m honestly not sure if they’ll possibly get this far but yeah now would be the time to just throw in the towel and go balls to the walls insane with the zombies and telekinesis shit.

Thank you all for reading!

Theory An Easter Egg, or Something More? Spoiler

Pretty sure that the outfits that the group of students wear at the end of Episode 8 are a direct nod to Part 2. The girl on the left wears the exact same jacket as Vicky in the movie, and the guy telling the story has the same clothes as Paul.

Could this be a sign that they’re planning to take inspiration from Friday the 13th Part 2 if they get renewed for season 2? Of course Pam is still alive at the end of season 1, but since Jason is already all grown up and killing people, nothing stops them from merging elements from both Part 1 and Part 2.

Discussion We have 4 timeline options for Jason now with Crystal Lake Spoiler

Timeline #1: The Paramount Tommy Jarvis timeline: The events of Friday the 13th parts 1-8 play out as we see them on screen, and Jason finally dies in the sewer at the end of part 8.

Timeline #2: The Newline Jason Deadite timeline: Friday the 13th parts 1-3 play out as we see on screen, but instead of Jason waking up in a morgue at the beginning of part 4, he gets up after Chris hits him with the ax and retreats back into the woods, continuing to kill anyone who enters his territory for the next 20 years leading into the events of Jason Goes to Hell, Freddy vs Jason, Freddy vs Jason vs Ash comic series, and then finally Jason X

Timeline #3: The Platinum Dunes Timeline: Everything before is gone, and we streamline events from parts 1-4 into one narrative.

Timeline #4: Crystal Lake: Like Platinum Dunes, we scrap everything that came before and keep only the event that connects all 4 timelines: Jason drowning. Leaving everything else open to new interpretation.

Callum had big shoes to fill, and he absolutely killed it. Gwendolyn originated an all-new character and played her to perfection. The casting was great all across the board, and I especially like to call out great young actors when they've earned their praise, and both of them definitely did.

Discussion Episode 7 Spoiler

I had a feeling before the premiere that we were going to get a weird mashup of Bates Motel/Welcome to Derry vibes for Crystal Lake, but just because Stranger Things was a runaway hit for Netflix DOES NOT mean that everything needs to just be a new version of Stranger Things where some shady government agency is out there experimenting on kids to make them "enhanced." I really enjoyed the first half of the season despite the cringe-ass use of CGI over practical effects(I understand now why Tom Savini said fuck no he isn't watching that shit), but once we got to Barry and Claudette's death with 3 episodes left, I knew we were in trouble, and there was going to be some major retconning. Overall, the series is fine, and I will keep watching if we get a season 2 because there's no reason to deny myself more Jason, but I can't honestly give it more than 3 out of 5 stars.

Appreciation I'm going to watch this show solely because Linda Cardellini is hot

That being said, I know there's gonna be scenes without her, so I was wondering, is this a show you can 'glance' at while listening and multitasking on other windows, or do you recommend a fully immersive experience to appreciate everything?

I plan to binge it if all the episodes are already available too.

I'll do whatever you suggest in terms of watching the show.

Theory My Theory for Season 2 of Crystal Lake

My Theory for Season 2 of
Crystal Lake
I think Season 2 will bridge the gap between the series and the original Friday the 13th movie, potentially with a few changes to established canon.
My theory is that Chief Brooks survives his injuries but eventually leaves Crystal Lake. Officer Dorf takes over as sheriff and becomes convinced that Crazy Ralph is responsible for the murders. Pamela may even manipulate the investigation to direct suspicion toward Ralph, allowing her to remain free.
Eventually, the camp closes down, and things go quiet for several years. Then Steve Christy decides to reopen Camp Crystal Lake, setting the stage for the events of the original 1980 movie.
Pamela returns and begins killing the counselors, but this time Jason witnesses his mother’s death. That could be the pivotal moment that transforms him into the Jason Voorhees we know from the later films.
I also wonder whether Jason’s transformation has a supernatural element. I don’t think he was inherently evil, and I don’t think Bellflower’s experiments alone turned him into a sadistic killer. Perhaps something about Crystal Lake itself changed him—or perhaps his mother’s death triggers something that was already happening inside him.
The beauty of this theory is that it connects Season 1 to the original movie, gives Dorf a meaningful role in the history of Crystal Lake, and leaves room for the writers to explore the mystery of what Jason has become.
What if Season 2 isn’t just about how Jason becomes a killer, but about what really happened to him at Crystal Lake—and why?
Obviously, this is just a theory, but I think it could be a fascinating direction for the series.

I was worried but I'm 3 episodes in I'm really liking it. Good writing and the direction it's taking is very smart. Makes you feel bad for Pam and sympathize with her.

Question did the show change the timeline? and then does that mean.... Spoiler

I HAVE NOT FINISHED THE SERIES I HAVE ONLY FINISHED EPISODE 5

and i am liking the show so far

*********\*

in the movie isnt it '57 when jason "drowned" and '58 when claudette and barry are killed?

officer brooks said it was the 70s, which makes sense because i was thinking would a small town have a black cop in the 50s?

so the timeline has changed?

and that mean this series is kind of an alt universe prequel?

especially after the ending of episode 5...

since the first episode i thought something felt off about the timeline but i haven't seen anyone mention it, ofc im trying to avoid spoilers so i haven't looked hard.

THOUGHTS?
