This Day in DMB History is a series in r/DMB, which started in mid-2020. You can view other TDiDMBH posts here, covering all the studio albums, other significant events throughout the year, and the rich history of DMB.
The studio album Under the Table and Dreaming was released on September 27, 1994.
Under the Table and Dreaming is the debut studio recording from the Dave Matthews Band. It's a RIAA: 6x Platinum album, and peaked at number 11 on the Billboard charts in the USA. Album trivia: Under the Table and Dreaming was produced by Steve Lillywhite. John Popper performed harmonica for What Would You Say.
There was a release party on the day of this debut album release, as well. Here's a bit of information for that show. Songs played this night have shown up in various released formats, including many Warehouse releases.
Under the Table and Dreaming can still be purchased from davematthewsband.com here.

Was up in the middle of the night taking care of my daughter, and letting the dog out etc.
Tried calming my mind/body down to fall back asleep, and put on this song with good headphones, and man. I just absorbed it in a different way in that kind of twilight zone between being awake and asleep.
It’s so beautifully mixed, too. I recall Lillywhite saying he had more of a hand in this, and it is so evident.
Creative lyrics, as well. Paints a picture, especially paired with the sonically luscious layers of Tim’s guitar tones, Boyd’s violin, horns- and especially Carter’s ever unique drumming.
Lastly, it’s seamless transition into Drunken Soldier- perfection.
Anyhow- guess I love Away From The World. Jumped back into the album this morning while making breakfast, and I feel like it’s a great fall album, as a whole.
Lesson of the story- listen to DMB in the dead of night with no distractions with good headphones on to find a deeper appreciation for the music. ✌️

Have we passed the typical date that the final live trax of the year gets announced? Assuming they’ll still drop one more show in time for holiday orders.
With so many releases, one of the few I’m still holding out hope for is 10/2/07. A vote for change show would be a nice addition to the series…a recent copperpot video of the Penn State show rekindled my appreciation for that little run! The 2016 25th anniversary show would be nice too.
Hope to hear something soon!

Excited to be seeing the full band in Rhode Island next month! Also saw them in RI back in 2002 and I’m PRETTY sure the full band hasn’t been back to The Ocean State since. My question is if dmbalmanac can sort by state? I know you can search previous shows at venues, and obviously there’s a million ways to sort songs, by year, by guest appearances etc etc. But I haven’t found a way yet to see shows played in a state over the years. TIA

Here’s my case:
Lyrically I think it’s possibly Dave’s very finest. It flutters between vague and thought-provoking and strikingly visual. Three distinct verses, perfect chorus. Lyrically, you can pick your favorite iteration, but all of them just kill.
Musically, though, too, it is quintessential DMB. “Dave chords.” Gorgeous Leroi and Boyd fills and accents throughout. Fonz jams. Carter goes nuts. Epic build in the end. Dave wailing into the outro. Everything fantastic about DMB happens in this song.
Deeply emotional, musically gorgeous. I find to be just the perfect DMB song.
The issue, in my head, at least:
I feel like this is a very uncommon take amongst hardcore, long-time fans. Darker, jammier tracks like Two Step or #41 seem to top most personal favorites list. Everyone LIKES Grey Street. Most people probably even LOVE Grey Street.
… but who else, like me, thinks it’s truly their very best?

With about 2 weeks until Halloween I thought I would reshare this treat. Lucky to have this as my 3rd show. Didn’t know at the time how unique to have this in the E1 spot early in 2000. Good way to get pumped for this Fall tour!

Has anyone ever really taken the time to listen to and appreciate the solo with Leroi and Paul during Typical Situation in Live Trax 7 in Virginia? This is one of my favorite versions, and the true musicality of those two going back and forth is so cool. Was anyone there to see it live and have any media from it??/

When Dave played this at Power to the People with Cindy Mizelle, I was excited because I hadn't heard him play that in a long time. So I checked Acts Marching and DMB almanac to see how long it had been. They both say it was the first time ever played.
However, I am having a Mandela effect moment because I am certain I had a crappy mp3 from the 90s of DMB covering that song before. Obviously, it could have been mislabeled but Dave's voice is pretty unique and I recall a sax part.
Anyone else recall hearing them cover it before? I might dig through my old hard drives to see if it is saved anywhere.

A true legend on the flying trapeze, but the 50 mph winds this week were too strong and broke him. 😢
Guess it’s time for a new set.
She's the coolest ever, and told a sweet Dave story while we interacted.

My daughter, who will be 2 the end of November, asked for me to play Pig and then Spoon on our drive home last night. Just had to share with people who cared/ got it. I was raised on Dave a similar age so a nice full circle moment.

The night after the Gorge, I ordered the 2026 Gorge setlist hoodie for my wife. They kept pushing back the shipping date every few days after that, and now I don't find it anywhere on the site. No one appears to be talking about this on the facebook or various other sites where they originally announced the hoodie, but it is not in the store anymore and I haven't received any word on shipping or a refund. Does anyone know what the deal is here? Has anyone else seen any indication that the hoodie does or does not exist?
Thanks

update: after several back and forth emails they agreed to send me the tickets. issue resolved
Hey r/dmb community. 25 year fan here, been to over 60 shows. In August I used my warehouse account to put in for tickets to the fall tour (MSG 11/12) and was selected. Purchased two tickets and they charged me, I paid.
On 9/9, so a couple weeks after it was confirmed I got and paid for the November tickets, my Warehouse account expired.
I typically do not renew my account and only sign up on years when there’s specific shows I want to try to get.
About a week ago I got an email saying my tickets were available on Warehouse followed by instructions to transfer them to your Ticketmaster account. Only it won’t let me access them to do so because my Warehouse account expired.
I reached out to their ticketing support team and so far they are refusing to let me access the tickets I’ve already paid for unless I renew.
This feels terribly unfair and now out of principle I don’t want to pay an additional $40 for access to tickets that I’ve already bought and paid for.
Would love the community’s feedback. If people think I’m in the wrong here that’s totally fine. I just think it’s cruel to sell you something, take your money, and then withhold the tickets you bought because your membership expired.
Feels unnecessarily greedy. Thanks for taking the time to read. Any advice greatly appreciated.
