Is Something Wrong with DMB Radio?

For the past 5 days, everytime I turn it on they are playing the 9.30.08 concert from Rio de Janero

Mine was doing the same thing with the same concert. I switched over to the actual Sirius XM input in my car (not android auto) and confirmed it was playing different music. I cleared the cache on the Sirius XM app on my phone and that fixed the problem for me.

Ah so you've discovered how SiriusXM works.

Not since Bruce and Nolan took over

I don’t know who they are but I’m talking about all of SiriusXM.

Edit: Y'all are weird AF for downvoting this.

It was 🔥 for a while this summer with lots of rare / deep cuts but yeah this last 10 days or so has been shockingly bad. Same concert over and over

Rio show from 08 is on right now

The last few weeks the repeats have been absolutely insane.

Every time I turn it on it’s the same concert, there is never any variety, and honestly a lot of the times it’s a very basic show with nothing special.

I wish the channel would do one concert a day, rotating through everything that’s available.

Between Live Trax, live releases, FNCS shows, and what’s now available from Nugs, I bet you could easily go 6 months with a different show every day.

This! Plus you have the DMB Live and Warehouse discs.

That show has been on the every day. Need somebody to turn it off and back on.

I appreciate them playing full shows but repeating the same show throughout the week is tiresome.

I've heard the Rio show a few times this week, but my favorite was the two hosts talking about a certain year being the year of Too Much, how much they loved it, the Lil Jon "WHAT? YEAH!" outro, teeing up their favorite version of it and then the song played was Two Step.

Yikes. Do you know when that happened? Can relay that error back to make sure it gets fixed.

I do not, earlier this week but I don't remember the day / time.

Thanks for letting us know. I’ve heard that one yesterday and today and it went into Too Much both times.

Glad it’s not just me!!!!

Whoever has been running it this year is terrible. I hate the podcast bros

I find the selection of songs to be awful. It’s always from the past like 2 years, usually some Friday night series show they’ve played a million times. It would be so much better to play some deeper cuts, older songs, hidden gem shows, I don’t know. I find it incredibly boring and stale.

Why’s that?

The whole station has gotten really cringy. A lot of weird segments where a random person gushes about how important Dave is to them., not great song selections, it’s just been hard to listen to lately.

Cannot stand when they have those guests

Love all of it except that segment. The stories aren’t touching and then they introduce the most mainstream song. It’s like the station is letting their friends and family get airtime

0

u/SpinShine-LEDSlipMat 1d ago

I doubt that. It’s lazy and stereotypical

u/HoosBruceW 2d ago

Are you talking about the “What Would You Play” segments that have been airing for years? And what songs would you like to hear that aren’t on the channel?

People keep telling you they do not like what you have been doing and playing and you keep asking why. Maybe because we don’t care that Nolan’s mom loves a song so he is going to play a version at a show he was at. Or you were lucky to get a fiddle at a show so you will keep playing that while those that weren’t there have no nostalgia for it. You may be very nice people but a lot of the paying fan base does not enjoy your programming tendencies.

His mom loves Grace is Gone, so he chose to play the one from The Gorge this year which was an incredible version with Tatiana. And he was not there. So, if that rubs you the wrong way, we are so sorry. I can’t imagine the pain you’ve had to suffer through because of it. Please, forgive, and have mercy on us!

You know what versions are also amazing? Most of them with Roi and Boyd.

1

u/HoosBruceW 2d ago

Agreed. Which is probably why we play those too…

Must be when I’m not listening bc I haven’t heard it in months

What’s your problem man? You seem super angry and I’m not even sure what side you’re on, but either way it’s a bit weird. It’s not really that deep either way to feel so angry at somebody for.

"WWYP" isn't the issue. Fans curating their own playlists and giving some background on why those songs/versions stand out to them is part what of makes the DMB community what it is.

The issue for me is the commentary leading into the segments. It's just tough to listen to. It's clearly scripted, and often poorly read. It sounds unbelievably forced and unnatural, not conversational at all. Also, part of it for me is the commentary seems elitist, almost like you are trying to prove to the listeners why you are a bigger fan than they are, because you say something like "In this show, we saw an epic rendition of Crush that reminded me of N2 of Alpine Valley back in 2016, where Stephan opened the set with a 13 minute tease before ripping that famous bass line and setting the crown on fire. I was so fortunate to be sitting side stage (an experience you lawn jockeys will never even sniff) during that performance and it still gives me chills."

Well, alright then.

He’s being a little harsh, but also making alot of good points. Causal listeners are turned off by the mid song segments worshipping Dave like a god and talking about how much of a religious experience a live show is, it’s weird. More devoted fans dont love the pissing contest aspect of it. Like, who is this for? It makes it awkward to listen to for 90% of the audience.

But at the end of the day the station selected you guys and there is definitely a reason for that choice. Those are the people that write your checks you gotta make them happy at a minimum. You don’t need to make everyone happy.

I think that's just this week's "exclusive full show", which airs at regular times. Other than that, it looks to me like the shuffle list is reasonably varied.

recently played track list

2

u/Babe2331 2d ago

If you go through that track list, a lot of songs from the same show have been on repeat (for instance, the 05 Morrison show and the 01 Salt Lake show). With the deep live catalog they have, the variety could be endless.

5

u/SnowSandSki 3d ago

Prob the least variety of any artist-specific station. I swear Warehouse must be played 50 times a day.

1

u/antonynation 3d ago

Great show. Needs many listens

1

u/Micro-Tree 2d ago

Not sure…we just heard “Eh Hee”from a show that we attended in Colorado 8/28 and 8/29. Gave me the chills having heard it there and about a half hour ago on Sirius channel 30, in the car, then a “Crash” from Hollywood came on.

u/jay2770 That's not a star, that's a satellite. 2d ago

Any time I join SiriusXM for a few trial I'm reminded of why I'd never pay for it. It's seens so damn repetitive, not just on the DMB station but across all stations. Same shit all the time.

1

u/phdecoder 2d ago

Phish radio has a ton of great variety

u/jay2770 That's not a star, that's a satellite. 1d ago

I know they are a talented group and I have a lot of respect for them but their music has never landed for me

1

u/SpinShine-LEDSlipMat 1d ago

I hate phish radio and blocked it. They took JamOn away for that lame band

1

u/phdecoder 1d ago

Jam On still exists though?

Idk man I still have it in my car 🤷‍♂️

Stopped listening months ago and rely on my own stash. Its a shame an artist with such a deep catalog is reduced to what feels like a "trolling" level of bayous and cornbreads

u/SpinShine-LEDSlipMat 1d ago

I hate how the shows are curated to be as little Boyd as possible while making it seem like Tim had always been a permanent member.
