Is Something Wrong with DMB Radio?

For the past 5 days, everytime I turn it on they are playing the 9.30.08 concert from Rio de Janero

Whoever has been running it this year is terrible. I hate the podcast bros

Why’s that?

The whole station has gotten really cringy. A lot of weird segments where a random person gushes about how important Dave is to them., not great song selections, it’s just been hard to listen to lately.

Love all of it except that segment. The stories aren’t touching and then they introduce the most mainstream song. It’s like the station is letting their friends and family get airtime

I doubt that. It’s lazy and stereotypical

Are you talking about the “What Would You Play” segments that have been airing for years? And what songs would you like to hear that aren’t on the channel?

People keep telling you they do not like what you have been doing and playing and you keep asking why. Maybe because we don’t care that Nolan’s mom loves a song so he is going to play a version at a show he was at. Or you were lucky to get a fiddle at a show so you will keep playing that while those that weren’t there have no nostalgia for it. You may be very nice people but a lot of the paying fan base does not enjoy your programming tendencies.

His mom loves Grace is Gone, so he chose to play the one from The Gorge this year which was an incredible version with Tatiana. And he was not there. So, if that rubs you the wrong way, we are so sorry. I can’t imagine the pain you’ve had to suffer through because of it. Please, forgive, and have mercy on us!

You know what versions are also amazing? Most of them with Roi and Boyd.

Agreed. Which is probably why we play those too…

What’s your problem man? You seem super angry and I’m not even sure what side you’re on, but either way it’s a bit weird. It’s not really that deep either way to feel so angry at somebody for.

"WWYP" isn't the issue. Fans curating their own playlists and giving some background on why those songs/versions stand out to them is part what of makes the DMB community what it is.

The issue for me is the commentary leading into the segments. It's just tough to listen to. It's clearly scripted, and often poorly read. It sounds unbelievably forced and unnatural, not conversational at all. Also, part of it for me is the commentary seems elitist, almost like you are trying to prove to the listeners why you are a bigger fan than they are, because you say something like "In this show, we saw an epic rendition of Crush that reminded me of N2 of Alpine Valley back in 2016, where Stephan opened the set with a 13 minute tease before ripping that famous bass line and setting the crown on fire. I was so fortunate to be sitting side stage (an experience you lawn jockeys will never even sniff) during that performance and it still gives me chills."

Well, alright then.

He’s being a little harsh, but also making alot of good points. Causal listeners are turned off by the mid song segments worshipping Dave like a god and talking about how much of a religious experience a live show is, it’s weird. More devoted fans dont love the pissing contest aspect of it. Like, who is this for? It makes it awkward to listen to for 90% of the audience.

But at the end of the day the station selected you guys and there is definitely a reason for that choice. Those are the people that write your checks you gotta make them happy at a minimum. You don’t need to make everyone happy.
