Question Am I crazy . . . ?
or is Chappell Roan's Expectations remix outfit a reference to Bowie's Life on Mars outfit?
Probably a coincidence but she looks great š¤·āāļø

I was listening to Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps) for the umpteenth time this weekend, and I know it's very far from an original thought, but it's so goddamn great.
Is it the best album side in his career? I mean, in terms of every ingredient being bang on: the song writing, the production, the musicians, his voice, the lyrics, the running order? The production in particular is, for me, the high watermark of how good an album can sound and the difference it can make to the enjoyment of music.
There are Bowie albums I like better than Scary Monsters, there are runs of songs I listen to more frequently, but with all things considered (and fresh off a listen) I can't think of anything that beats It's No Game (Part 1), Up The Hill Backwards, Scary Monsters, Ashes to Ashes and Fashion.
Side 2 is nothing to be sniffed at, but it says something that the 4 singles from the album are all from side 1.
Whaddya think?

Hello again. I've counted all the precious votes I've received in my previous thread, all 11 of them, and here's where we stand. My hoping that neither WAWN or LIL wouldn't win in an exciting upset were fulfilled for the community only to come up with an even more obvious winner, lol. Anyway, here's what You People (Me included) think.
Dancing Out In Space gets 14th place with 31 points (should have went to Heat, if you ask me)
Heat gets 13th place with 39 points
Boss Of Me gets 12th place with 44 points
If You Can See Me gets 11th place with 51 points
I'd Rather Be High gets 10th place with 52 points
How Does the Grass Grow gets 9th place with 69 points (super-underrated, but at least a silly-cool score)
Dirty Boys gets 8th place with 76 points (very underrated too, but I was glad to learn it has its fans)
Love Is Lost gets 7th place with 77 points (and '77 drums)
Valentine's Day gets 6th place (just as on the album) with 79 points
(You Will) Set the World on Fire gets 5th place with 82 points (kinda high, innit? Congratulations)
You Feel So Lonely You Could Die gets 4th place with 92 points (yeah, sure...)
The Next Day gets Bronze with 94 points (Exciting and Deserved!)
Where Are We Now gets Silver with 102 points (Ok. Why not!)
Stars Are Out Tonight gets Gold with 113 points (and we can all celebrate with Kate and Brad)
Thanks for participating, everyone, and there are absolutely no future games planned.

I was in a local record store flipping through the second hand Bowie section and found this nestled between Diamond Dogs (which I have) and Pin Ups (which I don't want). And only for 80kr! That's 20kr cheaper than my next cheapest, which was Never Let Me Down for 120kr from the same store. I think I lucked out with this!

Bowie released Black Star on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. The Lazarus video came out just days earlier, and Bowie died on January 10.
With lyrics like āLook up here, Iām in heaven,ā it almost feels as though he incorporated his own death into the art itself.
I believe Lazarus was known prior to the album from the broadway show. But, that video seems to say something.
Was any of this intentional or just coincidence?

Actor and magician Albie Selznick discusses Letter from David, his autobiographical one-man show about his lifelong admiration for Bowie and his determination to someday work with him. The interview explores Bowieās influence on Selznickās development as a performer, his theatrical circus troupe the Mums, and the remarkable story of how Bowie came to write him three personal letters.

The only post-Scary Monsters albums I have played as much as the classics from his golden years decade are Heathen and Blackstar. Might this be because I grew up listening to his 70s output and found his 80s output to be increasingly disappointing? Is there anyone out there who is a fossil like me but who kept listening? (I did have one girlfriend the same age as me who loved Labyrinth and Tonight and would spar with me over it. I was more of a rock 'n' roller than her.)

When I started learning more about Bowieās legacy, the more I realized how massive it was/is, touching multiple mediums and culture across the 20th century.
But for a certain group/generation of Bowie fans, they know him best as Jareth the Goblin King from the 1986 film Labyrinth. Back when one of our posters was putting together the Sergeant Pepper-style Bowie collage, at least three Labyrinth characters made it on.
Iāll admit: before I fully learned about Bowie, I had the misconception that the movie was his claim to fame the way Tim Curry was known for Rocky Horror (both show and film).
But looking in hindsight with the knowledge I have now: Even though I like Jim Henson, Labyrinth seems like a relatively small part of Bowieās work. Is it a matter of being arguably his most famous film role? (Whereas films like āThe Man Who Fell To Earth or Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence were for adults?) 80s nostalgia?

Listening to African Night Flight is actually what made this vision pop into my head, and then I gravitated using his Earthling era as the main muse, for some reason.
Anywho, this took me over a hundred hours and I hope it turned out well. First time having a go at a skull and blood, too! Symbolizes the illusion of time and how death ticks closer every day regardless of what we do, orā¦something to that effect.

From David Bowie Radio One interview 1980/12/07
just before this part, he of course gives credit William S. Burroughs and mentions Lewis Carroll as someone who used that method too.
