Discussion A tweet that has me thinking.

Post image

I don’t know if Riot can copy what valve has created with Deadlock. The atmosphere and setting so what I think makes deadlock so enjoyable. Yes the gameplay is amazing and the moba aspects are great but I just don’t think riot will even try to copy valve and make a deadlock clone. What is all y’all’s thoughts.

Biggest turn off for riot games. I dont understand how people i know can play valorant and feel ok having that vanguard shit on their pc.

Excuse? Maybe people are upset about kernel level anti cheats, because they are compulsory rootkits that open up a Pandora's box of attack surfaces?

A developer misconfiguration could bring the whole system down (CrowdStrike wasn't exactly caused by an anticheat, but it was essentially a security product that verified integrity in a way much alike) or cause disk corruption due to KLAC's hooking into I/O system calls. The same anticheats could be gathering any information about your system, and sending them off, and you would never know because this traffic wouldn't ever show up on userspace apps like Task Manager.

Genshin's anticheat driver was already used in at least two large scale attacks. The afflicted machines didn't even had to have the game installed; the attackers just distributed the signed driver that the system had no problem loading, and made it collect data and trigger ransomware payloads. If, without altering the code inside kernel space at all, this kind of action was possible, HoyoLab could easily pull off stuff just as unsettling. And you will never ever know until the paranoid security researchers figure it out.

And the best part is, cheaters had a way of bypassing them for a long, long time now, so you're essentially handing your PC over to a third party for full control just to play an online game that would still have cheaters in it.

then why does cs2 have more cheaters than valorant

Because KLAC raise the bar for entry to cheating?

They just aren't as efficient at keeping out cheaters as some developers would like you to believe, and have a slew of aforementioned issues that, to a lot of people outweigh any benefits to their inclusion.
