Discussion A tweet that has me thinking.

Post image

I don’t know if Riot can copy what valve has created with Deadlock. The atmosphere and setting so what I think makes deadlock so enjoyable. Yes the gameplay is amazing and the moba aspects are great but I just don’t think riot will even try to copy valve and make a deadlock clone. What is all y’all’s thoughts.

Two things, most fighting games are crossplay nowadays so going off of steam charts alone doesn't do the genre justice for popularity. Especially ina post Sony world where they're trying hard to BE that FGC platform. Not to say fighting games aren't niche, but they really toe that line of being niche and mainstream now.

As for skins, bro have you seen the thirst for SF6 when they were doing the swimsuits? All you saw was dudes with Cammy in a micro bikini and the like. Skins are definitely money makers in fighting games, its just the norm today in gaming which kinda sucks

There is a massive difference between buying the occasional costume you like and whaling content.

Yeah and in fighting games (maybe more of a Tekken and SF thing) people whale for the skins and fight passes. Like we're past the occasional buys for things in these games, live service is a beast

Edit: not to mention character passes to get the new members they add

That's not whaling. It's not even in the same order of magnitude as League and Dota skins and characters.

When they have $35 skins for one character people will buy en masse without blinking, then we're whaling.
