Didn't you know that Stick Figures have souls and complex AI art has exactly 0% soul? Check mate!!!

The worse part is that I’m not completely certain you are joking, that’s some shit an anti would say

u/Arko777 2h ago
I suppose I need to add that "/s" in the future as the sarcasm becomes undetectable with the amount of stupid arguments being made by antis.

I think y’all have like a relatability issue with people who don’t appreciate ai art. Also from like a pr standpoint like in response to a child’s drawing to prompt a women to mog the baby is just kinda funny. Imagine doing that to your nephew or younger sibling at thanksgiving when everyone is crowding around to just be saying “ if you think that’s good look at this” and it’s a women from those ai youtube ads.

Sorry but anyone who's been in online art/creative spaces long enough can tell you that it's always been a toxic place filled with elitists and generally unlikeable people, and if you think that isn't true then you're one of those people. I was heavily involved in the online roleplay scene in high school and it was basically the same shit.
It was like that way before LLMs came about and it would've stayed that way even if they never existed.
Ironic, given that people like these tend to be the ones who are the nerds and geeks on the periphery of society, so you'd think they'd know better than anyone how it feels to be an outcast. But I guess some people just want to live out their revenge fantasies and compensate for the fact they never got to be one of the popular mean kids in school.
While I don't doubt there's people who are genuine in encouraging novice artists and helping them grow, I'm also convinced another solid chunk of it is merely lip service from the same people who would've shit on these same novice artists before genAI came about. They're only interested in using them as moral cudgels, not out of any genuine interest in supporting their hobbies and interests.

Literally—even when I’m working on my own projects using AI, my own thoughts call me a fraud. I even feel guilty; I have my own internal dilemmas. Whenever I see a video—even just a regular one about RPGs—I immediately go on high alert, and cognitive distortions kick in, even though I don’t even know if the person in the video hates AI or not. I create things in a very casual, low-stakes way, with no intention of making a profit or money. And the worst part is that, at the same time, I feel guilty for hating these "anti-AI" people. Strange, right? Cognitive dissonance, lol.

Huh… that picture means nothing to me, but I’m glad it means something to them.

What the hell does a kid's doodles have to do with AI?
And sure, emotional value is a thing. A PERSONAL thing.
I have a bowl with heavy emotional value for me for personal reasons. That does not mean I consider it the superior bowl in the world or it being "art", a mastercraft and above bowls other people produce.

I watched a video about an AI Lapras dying and it almost brought me to tears. That's more emotion I got out of that than this pencil slop.

Art is about expressing. The reason the picture resonates is because it is the child telling what makes him feel safe. Antis want to ignore and deflect when it comes to AI, because instead of seeing what a person is trying to express, they put their own hatred forward and override anything else.

Ask OOP if they would replace every media they consume with children doodles and let's see how bored they would get with it. Of course you could never compare good AI art with a child's doodle, the difference of quality is too much.

Art requires intent.
That's all, really. And "intent" is not stored in the pencil, or the stylus, or the keyboard, it comes from the person who is making it.

Thoughts:
What about the amount of water being used to make the paper that child draws on?

While I don't agree with what OOP is saying, I still feel like we shouldn't really be doing pissing contests over a child's drawing.

Its an interesting argument because it reminds me of Thus Spoke Zarathustra with the camel/lion/baby

I like his kids drawing! But ya, this is just apples n oranges.
A lot of people are getting hung up on either or. As if you can only do traditional art OR ai art. You can like both and value both. The same way I don’t have to choose between other artistic mediums. I can draw AND paint. I can play music AND dance.
No need to choose!

Sure, I could draw stick figures, but I’m not satisfied with that. I’m not happy with that. I want something that actually looks halfway decent. And ultimately, I use AI for my own pleasure, not to please a bunch of technophobic purists.

The reason they like the kid's scribble is the same reason AI works should be valid to them. The meaning is what makes it art to them, that is what they are saying.
They likely believe that AI art can't have meaning because they ignorantly believe that all AI usage is typing in a single sentence and waiting for a result.
As is usual with the more grounded and reasonable anti arguments, they believe what they believe because they're just misinformed and refuse to accept that they don't know at all how the tech works or how it can enable deeply creative people rather than overwrite them.

Hey he is being inflammatory but can we not piss all over a child’s drawing to defend AI?
