Sorry but anyone who's been in online art/creative spaces long enough can tell you that it's always been a toxic place filled with elitists and generally unlikeable people, and if you think that isn't true then you're one of those people. I was heavily involved in the online roleplay scene in high school and it was basically the same shit.

It was like that way before LLMs came about and it would've stayed that way even if they never existed.

Ironic, given that people like these tend to be the ones who are the nerds and geeks on the periphery of society, so you'd think they'd know better than anyone how it feels to be an outcast. But I guess some people just want to live out their revenge fantasies and compensate for the fact they never got to be one of the popular mean kids in school.

While I don't doubt there's people who are genuine in encouraging novice artists and helping them grow, I'm also convinced another solid chunk of it is merely lip service from the same people who would've shit on these same novice artists before genAI came about. They're only interested in using them as moral cudgels, not out of any genuine interest in supporting their hobbies and interests.

Literally—even when I’m working on my own projects using AI, my own thoughts call me a fraud. I even feel guilty; I have my own internal dilemmas. Whenever I see a video—even just a regular one about RPGs—I immediately go on high alert, and cognitive distortions kick in, even though I don’t even know if the person in the video hates AI or not. I create things in a very casual, low-stakes way, with no intention of making a profit or money. And the worst part is that, at the same time, I feel guilty for hating these "anti-AI" people. Strange, right? Cognitive dissonance, lol.
