Living Room Help me de-boho-fy my living room!

Thumbnail gallery

Ok I realise my living room looks cluttered in this image as it’s been my 30th bday. But I need help refreshing it and making it more mature, more elevated. Swipe right for the inspiration pic!

I don’t have tonnes of money to spend and can’t afford new sofas yet. But I can afford to overhaul the decor.

I do like my neutral/pink paint, but want to get rid of the blue in the fireplace. I think the Moroccan stools make it look very boho, but do you think there’s any way they could work?

Also, I’m going to order some walnut pebble nesting tables to add more warmth, plus make it more practical in relation to the two sofas.

What else?

Bathroom Suggestions for this bathroom space

Looking for suggestions for this bathroom space. Current thoughts are to re-line it , or cap it off with a lid. Have also heard suggested laundry hamper or flower planter. Current rusty recessed rectangle is 34" wide x 18" deep x 8" tall. Would like to hear other thoughts and suggestions. And yes the toilet paper holster seems to be quite far from the toilet.

Living Room Help me make a fun space for my one year old!

Post image

I’m looking to make a fun and safe play area for my 1 year old in our living room. He has a big playroom but it isn’t in view of the kitchen so I need a space I can have him when I need to clean or cook. I have no problem moving the table to make the space larger. I’m going to put down a rug. The bouncer and walker will be gone soon. The tv stand is extremely heavy so I’m concerned with him being able to pull it down. The door is always locked. The windows are always locked. I was thinking a playpen but he is learning to walk and cruising so I don’t know if that’s the safest option anymore. Please help!

Living Room First month in my new apt. I need tips on how to fill my kitchen/living room.

I just moved in my new apartment and I’m wondering how can I exploit the space in my kitchen/living room combo in the best way possible. My idea is to darken the entire room because it’s just too pale for me and to organize the furniture to create a cozy environment for myself and some friends every now and then. Right now the plan is to buy a couch and place it in front of the tv with an armchair on the right; a rug, one or two lamps and then something to fill the void corner, probably a stereo setup or a turntable…oh and a lot of posters on those white walls. Any other ideas? Is there a better disposition?

Living Room Help me organize my living room?

Including dining room as well since it flows off the living room, and please pardon the mess as my former housemate is still moving out.

I live in a 1920s foursquare and have been struggling with how to lay it out to feel cozy and make the best use of space. I think the couch and armchair will stay where they are and I’ll add a TV + stand (so tv storage for stuff currently under the coffee table) under the piano window. Everything else is fair game for adjustments in terms of swapping out coffee table for something smaller or for an ottoman, ditching the dresser under the stairs, adding new storage, etc — please hit me with any ideas for decluttering that you have!

I’m also looking for ideas on window dressings. As you can see, the living room has windows out onto a three season porch which also has windows. I’d like to do something for privacy on the porch windows and block light within the living room, and am thinking about a combo of cellular shades + curtains, with one being light filtering and the other blackout to balance light control and privacy. I also want it to be consistent between the windows facing the porch and the ones on the side of the house—any thoughts on how to do this in a way that looks good while being true to the century home vibe?

Finally, for dining room I’m planning paint the walls off white to match living room and to get a big area rug, but again open to any suggestions for light fixtures, organization improvements, etc — I know this is all very loose but it’s a big puzzle I’m trying to fit together and appreciate any and all input to help figure it out!

Bedroom Help - our primary bedroom is in major need of cozy & charm

Hi all - I'm new here, but very much looking forward to seeing and hearing your suggestions! My husband is gone for the next couple of weeks, and I'd like to surprise him with a bedroom refresh, because we haven't done ANYTHING to it since moving in 4 years ago and it's severely lacking real furniture and any sense of character... eek.

We have a nice sized space (19' x 13'9") with 8ft ceilings. What's unusual about this room, as you can see, is the angled soffits on each side of the window - these make symmetry impossible, because the bed can only go along this wall or the wall opposite. I really wanted to install picture frame moulding on the walls, because I adore it and we have it in other areas of our home, but I am not sure how to make moulding work with these angled soffits... would the moulding accentuate these angles in the wrong way and further truncate the room?

My style is Modern Traditional - cozy, lived-in layers, mixed patterns and finishes, antique pieces mixed with new, etc. Huge Nancy Meyers fan. Not afraid of some color. I am open to changing just about anything in the room except the king bed frame, hardwood floors, and door placement (double doors lead to the bathroom, other closed door is the closet).

Help me add cozy & charm to this space, please and thank you!! Open to all suggestions - on wall treatments, paint or wallpaper (on walls or maybe even the ceiling?!), lighting, furniture, drapes, bedding, art... you name it. I'm ready to get to work!

I’m in need of some serious help with decorating my living room, please!. The three horizontal windows are making it super difficult for me to imagine a layout for my furniture and decor. I now have new blinds on all of the windows, including the 3 horizontal windows. I have a reclining sofa and loveseat set. My entertainment center in shown in the first pic and I have a little larger tv than the one shown. I don’t and won’t have a dining table. I have a corner bookshelf waiting to be put together. Any help and advice is GREATLY appreciated! 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️

Bedroom New room new layout! Advice welcome

Hi All,

I was wondering if you had any ideas how best to organise a new room I am moving into. Currently there is only a bed (196 cm by 140 cm shown in red).

I was considering buying a PAX wardrobe from ikea (100x58x238 cm) and placing it in the far corner as shown away from the light which comes from the southerly facing windows as shown. I was thinking about a small bed side table as in blue, and a table for the front window, about 60 cm in depth and 120 cm in length.

Does anyone have any criticicm or ideas on changes to furniture type/design or placement? Again the only thing that can't be changed is the bed dimensions which are the landlords. Thanks in advance!

Living Room Help layout entertainment center/living room setup

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Please excuse the mess just moved in. We have a new home with a large tray ceiling that spans the entire space and a ceiling fan dead center. Wife thinks the living space (couches and entertainment center should be centered on the tray and ceiling fan but to me it doesnt look right for 2 reasons. 1 the entertainment center would hug the left side of the wall and hallway and 2 having the seating area in the center crowds the entryway/throughway and leaves an awkward unused open space on the other side. Pictures attached for reference. Eventually i plan to build a large entertainment center along most of the wall so we need to figure this out, lol. Any help with this would be great. Picture examples would be awesome if anyone has a similar setup.

Living Room Living room wood panel paint color & advice

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I recently moved into a lovely home that is a bit dated, but gives us plenty of room to make it our own.

One element that I am stuck before I can move on to anything else on is what to do with the walls in the living room. The previous owners installed rough sawn plywood siding panelling for the living room that they painted dark brown. I would like to repaint them to be lighter and just generally refresh the space. Eventually I would love to drywall the walls, maybe wood panel the ceiling, and replace the carpet with hardwood floor, but that will a bit in the future due to budget constraints.

We are very outdoorsy people, so the vibe that I'm after for the living room (and the whole house in general) is cozy, bright cabin. I do love plently of natural wood finishes, but unfortunately since the panelling was already painted, we'll just have to settle on repainting.

I have added photos of the living room from each corner, plus a mood board. All the furniture is from our apartment prevously, so I am planning on slowly upgrading each piece as we make design decisions. Windows are south, east, and north facing. Let me know if you have any thoughts on paint color (should I just go for a creamy white??? Is that too much white??) and any other thoughts you have about the space!

(P.S. the window treatment also came from the previous owner, and I will absolutely be replacing them once I figure out the wall color)

Living Room Front room help

Just moved into a new place and need help with our living/front room. Only things that need to stay are the L couch and bookshelf. Budget is around $700

- I’m wanting to add more color
- I like the accent wall since it matches the dining room, but open to suggestions.
- We were going to move the loveseat to the basement and add 2 accent chairs. Something medium and comfy (think curling up and reading a book)
- Looking to get a new rug, but not sure what color to get because this is a high traffic area and cream rugs show dirt quicker. Maybe a solid navy rug?
- Any better rearrangement to the area?
- Not looking to add a TV. Toys can be moved.

Bedroom Apartment Bedroom Layouts

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi guys, I’m just looking for some feedback on room layouts for an apartment bedroom I’m moving into (a lot of the comments got removed on my last one). So please make sure you agree to the rules of the sub before commenting.

The bedroom has one large window, and three doors with the main being on the left, and the two on the bottom leading to a bathroom/closet.

I’ve ironed it down to three design ideas I’ve attached, all involving a loveseat which I do want for gaming on a ps5 as I will have a roommate. Two of the layouts I’d need to move it to have a better angle on the tv, but I’d rather be using the tv from there instead of the bed anyways. Please let me know which one makes the most sense, and any changes!

I’m a little concerned with the space next to the bed and desk on layout one, but that is the only space limitation between the three designs.

Bedroom To much space

It might sound like a stupid issue but I genuently don't know how I should utalize all this space. I'm getting this room because my brother is moving out and I got basically infinite time to remodle and redesign this into my new bedroom but I've already got my gaming room setup. I'd like to give it a very dark but also very cozy aesthetic. In the end it should still be a bedroom not a living room so I'm kinda clueless. Any ideas?

Kitchen Help wit ideas. Close in or something else

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I'm looking for some design ideas and would appreciate feedback from people who have tackled similar kitchen layouts.

Our kitchen is fairly short on both storage and usable counter space. Adjacent to the kitchen is an open area overlooking the lower level (photos attached). I'm considering enclosing part or all of that opening to create additional kitchen space.

My initial thought was to build out into that area and add:

  • Additional lower cabinets for storage
  • More countertop workspace
  • Possibly a raised bar/high-top seating area facing the open living room

I'm also open to completely different ideas if there's a better way to gain both storage and prep space without making the area feel cramped.

A few questions:

  • Would enclosing this space be worth it, or would I regret losing the openness?
  • Would an island, peninsula, or built-in cabinet/bar area make more sense?
  • How would you handle seating while still maximizing storage?
  • Has anyone done something similar with a split-level or overlook-style floor plan?

I've included photos of the kitchen and the adjacent open area. The kitchen is directly next to the overlook, and I'm trying to make better use of that square footage.

Any suggestions, sketches, examples, or photos of similar projects would be greatly appreciated!

Bedroom Thoughts on adornments for a side window?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hi there! Looking for some help with fixing up this window (23x48.) It's in the corner of our bedroom and I'm looking for some suggestions to spruce it up. We are renters, but I'm handy enough to fill holes and patch so putting up hardware wouldn't be an issue. We currently have a black curtain rod on the other window with dark wash chambray curtains.

Thinking about a tied up roman shade, but curious if anyone has suggestions. Would love for this to a warmer part of the room, it feels a bit manufactured and sterile right now.

Thanks so much!

Bedroom Help with studio apartment / bedroom

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

I live in a teeny tiny studio apartment in Paris, so my bedroom is also my entire apartment (minus entry hallway with bathroom and kitchenette). I’m only planning to stay here for 9 ish months and then hopefully get a nicer place, but I still want it to feel nice while im here as my living environment really affects my mood.

photo 1: right side of room

photo 2: left side

photo 3: what you see when you walk in

I recently rearranged my bed (turned it 90 degrees so it’s long way on the wall instead of short way) to create more space on the right side of the room and bought a bedside table. my problem is that now the right side of my room looks weird and empty.

im planning to buy a lamp and put it by the built in shelf thing, possibly a coat rack in the right corner, or a rack for hangers. I have some coats, scarves, and bags I would like to hang up, and my door is too thick for most over-door hangers.

I HATE the table with a burning passion. it’s ugly and every time I look at it it bothers me. I thought about buying a big tablecloth to cover it but I don’t think that would even help, if I see even one bit of

The problem with getting a new one is that my apartment entry way is weirdly narrow (62 cm/ 2 feet wide) so the only way I could get another table is if I bought something like an ikea table that I could bring in and assemble. i live alone with no family in the city so everything would have to be done alone and without a car, im not strong enough to carry a heavy table by myself.

the chair is fine with the blanket. other considerations were changing out the blackout curtains for some white / cream ones that are still semi sheer to give some privacy.

I just need help making the space feel like someone lives here, for wall decorations all I have are postcards and medium prints, I was thinking of buying some antique frames from a flea market and framing some of my vintage postcards?

TLDR need help with

- figuring out new table/ covering ugly table given restrictions

- whether a coat rack in right corner would look good

- type/ placement of wall decorations

-overall just making the right side of the room just look less empty and blank
