Error Found

Idk if this is a well known error or not. But I was playing dos2 honor mode on tactician and as well all know, honor mode deletes itself upon death. Turns out, if you are doing a lone wolf playthrough and have comeback kid, you effectively break the game and get a fatal error.

What comeback kid's skill window specifically says. Just in case anyone says "It doesn't count as a death". Note the word: FATAL BLOW.

I am assuming it is because the game deletes your save file before you resurrect.

I've worked with the talent while modding the game, using it for optional bosses and the like.
You don't die when Comeback Kid triggers. u/Waste-Carob5699 is correct about this.
You are prevented from dying, and your health is set to 20%.
This doesn't trigger on-death or on-resurrect effects (meaning that Morning Person has no interaction with it, Flaming Crescendo won't detonate, etc.).
It's likely that the talent triggered in the fight and you didn't notice, because it doesn't come with any especially flashy effects. Then, you were brought down again.
As for your argument in that other comment chain:
'Dead' is a status effect in the engine that gets applied when a character reaches 0 Vitality. It prevents other status effects and healing, and it adds a temporary flag to the character.
Talents are hardcoded into the engine, and Comeback Kid interjects before the status gets applied.

Comeback kid activation does not count as death, so it shouldn't cause an issue. Maybe reinstall the game?

Comeback kid does count as a death.

It says specifically "when an enemy lands a fatal blow" as in "your hp reaches zero due to an enemy attack".

You don't die when this happens. You are saved from dying by the ability. It says "X has resisted death" when it happens.

You don't lose your effects. Your honor mode game does not save.

It is not death.

Except you do die. Because for comeback kid to trigger you have to take LETHAL damage. LETHAL damage is damage that would kill you. For that to happen, your health has to hit 0 (zero), zero being considered dead in the games code. 

So logically it would be in the code chain.

Take damage, health goes to zero, character state = dead, game checks for comeback kid, game checks requirement for activation of comeback kid (example of else/if) if state = dead then use comeback kid.

But when state is dead on all party, honor mode auto ends.

Regardless, how either of us reading it might not be how it is coded. So unless there is a Dev here. We are in stalemate. I can reproduce the error consistently though.

So unless you have a counter to that?

Lethal damage does not mean you die. The skill triggers before you die and says you to around 20% health. Yes, you are right that it is damage that WOULD kill you, unless you have comeback kid.

I think you have a bug because it doesn't trigger the auto save feature.

English isn't your first language, is it? The healing only occurs after you take lethal damage.

So how it works is one more time:

You take lethal damage, you then hit zero health, because lethal is damage that kills you, then the game restores you back to 20% AFTER you hit zero.

No zero, no lethal, no healing, how do I know I'm right and you have to hit zero?

comeback kid doesn't trigger when you have 1 health. Which is the lowest possible increment before zero. Therefore if it doesn't trigger on 1 or any other number, then it has to trigger on ZERO.

What happens when your hp hits zero in game? You are in the character state of "dead", sure you cann resurrect. But you have to be "dead".

Of course it wouldnt trigger the auto save because it's in a game over state, lol.

Edit: i give up. Try and replicate it yourself and then we talk. I'm done with this line of discussion. Can't be any clearer than that.

I tried it and it doesn't try to save.

It's also not healing. The game just sets your health to a percentage instead of killing you.

Also the save isn't deleted if you were wondering. I recommend reinstalling.
