Single people over 40s ...How difficult is it to meet people and go on dates in Dublin?
Tell me your experiences .

Getting a date isn't too difficult. Getting into a serious relationship with someone, after they've become accustomed to their own space and are immensely protective of it? Basically impossible. Standards are high and effort is low.

Thats very true. I dated a guy in his 40s for a few months last year and it ended in May 2025 since then I had dates and even second and third ones but it took until now to find a guy (in his mid-40s) with whom i go out consistently for a month now and with whom it looks promising.

I am 40M, divorced, living alone. On paper, I am a decent man. In practice, I can’t even get a date. It’s close to impossible to have a personal live in Dublin.

52M and not even interested in dating any more. Women the same age are not that sexually attractive, those in their 30ies would be too much of an age difference to me and often nothing in common, plus I also am not interested in kids of others from a previous relationship. That'll always be an interference, together with visitation rights of the ex partner.
So at a certain age, it's basically not an option any more, or the options are very very limited and slim if at all.

Fair play for being honest. I disagree about women in their 50s not being attractive, i know lots of sexy middle aged women.. Also with kids at your age there is no visitation issues they're grown. Most women you will meet will be parents of teenagers or people in their 20s. I think you need to work on your maturity.

The thing is, I don't want to deal with other people's children no matter if they are out of the house and going after their lives or not.
Yes, sometimes you do get women in their 50s which are still attractive, the the majority to me, it's a no. In Dublin it's actually a bit better, Irish women seem to lose less of the attractiveness over age and there is more of a personality to them than in other countries. But that's all a bit personal preference.
And then it's also myself. At a certain point one accepts being single and doesn't want to deal with other people's matters any more. It's in the end, also my age.

If the kids are out of the house and not in their lives then what difference does their existence make?

Kids are always in somebody's life. That's the point of having them in the first place, and this is regardless of age.
( how many downvotes can I get?)

I don’t really understand why that bothers you though (the kids being in their life)? I’m
Not downvoting you, unsure why others are.2

Thanks for your honest reply

How many downvotes can one get here, is probably the major question.
An opinion is not there to be popular. It is just an opinion, one of many.

It's not about downvotes. It's that your opinions no matter how strongly you feel are objectively wrong. You've clearly got a warped view of the world and hopefully you can find help to heal. The only thing with any value in this life is love.

Well, it's often more a question of practicality and financial feasibility rather than anything else.
And I don't think my opinion would change just because of downvotes. Opinions don't really have to be popular to be opinions.

Personally I'm not attracted to women any younger than me. And generally look at those 5-10 years older. I'm in my 40s.

As a 42f very easy to get dates, very difficult to find anything lasting. Women often find it a bit easier to get a volume of dates but are in the same boat when it comes to seeking anything serious.

Unless I meet someone in the wilds its unlikely to happen. I will not go near the apps and when I am out and about (not often) I never get approached.

50F here. I avoid the apps like hell, and meeting new people in general isn't the easiest of tasks. In a way I've given up, my life is fine as it is, so no biggie

Thought it was easy enough when I was 40 as a male. Met partner at 41 but plenty of single women in the age range in Dublin.

If you haven't met someone by like 35, you just have to wait until you're like 60 or something

Haha it’s funny I know you are only being light hearted but in my mind I will meet somebody in my 60s, I think it’s impossible now

I'm 42m going through meditation ahead of the divorce and have found the apps ok. Had some lovely connections and seeing someone a month or two now. It's not that hard if you out the effort in to communicate within the apps
