New to Dublin and looking to explore—anyone up for a drink and a chat?

> Hey everyone,

> I’ve recently moved to Dublin and I'm really enjoying the city, but it's always more fun exploring a new place with someone else rather than wandering around solo.

> I'd love to connect with a cool girl who is up for grabbing some drinks, checking out parts of the city, and having a good laugh. I'm pretty easygoing, up for discovering some nice pubs or hidden gems around town, and just seeing where the conversation goes.

> If you're local, new here too, or just fancy a drink sometime this week, drop a comment or send a DM. What's your go-to spot for a drink in the city center?

>

Would you like some recommendations for some great, casual pubs around Dublin center that are ideal for a first meet-up?

Hi all,

I'm going to an event that requires "business casual" clothing for the dress code.

I'm just wondering from those with experience, what clothes would you consider buying and what stores have you found sells the best range of these styles?

Thanks!

Looking for niche shops that sells unusual/vintage items

Like title suggests, I'm looking for stores similar to the likes of Needful Things and The Secret Bookstore. Somewhere that sells items that you wont find anywhere else. Vintage watches, fountain pens, fossils, old books ect. Reckon this will be the only way to find these stores. Any recommendation is appreciated.

Fella offering to install alarms?

Had a guy come to the door at my home in dublin city centre today offering to install an alarm in my house there and then due to “recent burglaries”. I don’t believe anyone on my street has been robbed.

I said I’d have to tell my landlord first and he dissappeared then. Left the doorstep in a rush. I feel pretty creeped out? I live with 4 other girls and we are all in our early 20s.

Am I right to think this guy was scouting houses to rob? Any security precautions we could take? Is this something i could flag to the police or is that a bit much?

Nearly 25+ garda cars on the m50 lights flashing

Just had at least 20ish guards with their lights flashing whizz past us at what seemed like 150 km/h between the N3 and N4 going southbound on the M50. Wonder what’s going on, hope it isn’t another shitstain driving the wrong way.

Store for altering jeans

I have 3 pairs of jeans from Levi’s that are way too loose for me now. I checked with the Levi’s store but they said it’ll cost 45 per pair. Are there cheaper options or tailors?

My altering I mean altering the waist not the length.

Looking for a bassist and a drummer for a midwest emo / pop punk band

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this, but this sub has good reach so thought it would be worth a try.

A friend and I are at the tragic mid-30s, "AI is taking my job, the economy is about to collapse and I'm retreating to video games and skateboards" phase, and so we're looking to start a midwest emo band. We're looking for a drummer and a bassist who can make regular rehearsals/gigs in town.

Bands we'd like to sound like are:
- Hot Mulligan
- The Story So Far
- The Wonder Years
- Real Friends
- a bit of Modern Baseball chucked in for good measure

Please drop me a DM if you're interested, thanks!

Best spice bag without a doubt in town?

Meeting a foreign friend in town tomorrow, rarely get spice bags or food at all in town unless I’m out in the lash.

Give us your best spice bag spots. Whether it’s a lovely modern place, or some run down place without a sign and a child child taking your order, if the spice bag is banging then it’s banging!

Best Tamales in Dublin?

Hello all - As the title says, I’m looking for somewhere in Dublin that sells good authentic Tamales. I really want to try them but not sure where the best spot is to get them.

I went through all 323 things on in Dublin this weekend so you don't have to. Here's what's worth it (Open House ends Sunday)

There are 323 things on in Dublin this weekend. I'm building a free app that tracks all of it, and a lot of what it finds is yoga classes and sound baths, so I dug through the lot. Here's what's actually worth leaving the house for.

(Also, u/cormacthewalrus rightly called me out last week for leaving Open House off my list. Fair point, so it's at the top this time.)

OPEN HOUSE · ALL FREE · ENDS SUNDAY

Most tours need booking on openhousedublin.com and some slots are already full, so check quickly. The ones I'd book:

- St Patrick's Cathedral, tower and roof · Fri 16 & Sat 17, 13:30 and 15:30. You climb the tower and walk the roof spaces, with views over the city.

- The Four Courts · Fri 16 13:15, Sat 17 13:15 and 15:00. Led by the OPW architects who restored the Dome, and you go up into it. Narrow stairs, no wheelchair access.

- Behind the Pillars: the GPO · Sat 17, 10:00, 11:00, 12:00. The offices around the courtyards, original 1929 desks and the stairwell Radio Éireann used.

- Busáras · Sat 17 & Sun 18, 12:00. Michael Scott's modernist building, which originally had a newsreel cinema.

- The Magazine Fort · Phoenix Park · Fri 16 & Sun 18, 12:30. An 18th-century fort that's rarely open, raided in 1916 and again in 1939.

No booking needed:

- The Mansion House · Dawson St · Sat 17, 11:30. Toured by former Lord Mayors.

- St Stephen's Church ("the Pepper Canister") · Fri–Sun

- St Ann's Church, Dawson St · Fri–Sun

THE BEST OF THE REST

- AnimeCon Dublin · RDS, Hall 4 · Sat 17 10am–6pm (+ after party 6:30–9:30pm) & Sun 18 10am–5pm · Sat €25, Sun €22.50, kids 5–12 €6, under 5s free. First time ever in Dublin: voice actors, cosplay, karaoke and 100+ artists and vendors.

- The Haunted Trail · Malahide Castle · opens Sat 17 · adults from €21, kids from €18. Samhain trail with storytelling and live music in the evenings.

- Ardal O'Hanlon in conversation with Rick O'Shea · The Civic, Tallaght · Sun 18, 8pm · from €10. Father Dougal himself talking about his new crime novel, part of the Red Line Book Festival.

- Melanie C · 3Olympia · Sun 18, doors 7pm · from €42.70. Sporty Spice on her new album tour.

- The Comedy Crunch · The Stag's Head (downstairs) · Sun 18, show 9pm · free, with free ice cream.

P.S. The other 300+ things on this weekend (gigs, comedy, theatre, free stuff, filterable by day) are in the app. It's called Scenia, it's free on iPhone and Android, and I'm building it on my own, so feedback is very welcome.

What am I missing? Happy to add things in the comments.

Singles Walk/Hike Howth 18/10/2026 Tickets, Sunday 18 October  •  9:30 AM - 12 PM

I'm mainly going to manage this from the casual Ireland sub so better to comment there but sure chat away here if you want to put details about yourself here, strike up a convo or something. I'll start us off here anyway :)

For anyone who hasn't seen this I'll be doing a singles walk/hike in Howth this Sunday.

Please signup on eventbrite if you're coming and haven't already as it just helps me keep track of it a bit better.

I'll be there with my dog and plan to be there at 9.15 and start at 9.30 sharp so come up say hi and join. She's a small blonde cockapoo, I'll be in a navy rain jacket, a wine coloured Tshit, and jeans. Also will be there with at least 1 friend of mine.

Easy enough to get dart/bus and then walk to the start point at Balscadden Car Park - D13 RH32. Very limited parking there, I'll be parking in the village and walking up, I made it early enough to beat the cars.

Weather is looking good for Sunday. No rain, low wind, so fingers crossed it stays this way. As long as it isn't actually dangerous to be out or bucketing down rain I'll be there.

Open to all people of all 18+, nationality, sex, and orientation. Of course please be sound and respectful to others. There are a lot signed up from eventbrite, maybe more will show who didnt sign up or less who don't bother. But if it's as busy as the numbers suggest I'll potentially do us in waves or something. I will be semi-figuring it out as I go but I have a few ideas I've been playing with.

The route I plan to do is by the cliffs, to the lighthouse viewpoint, then the lighthouse itself, and then return on the upper path by the Eire sign. I plan to wait a moment at each of these to give people a chance to change who they're chatting if they so wish as the path is tight enough. Then I'll get a coffee in the village after.

I'm not going to manage it too much other than being there and starting it off so I'll leave it to anyone who comes to largely decide if they want to do their own route, go for coffee after, exchange numbers etc. it will be pretty informal.

Please bear in mind I'm intentionally doing this as a singles event rather than a meet new people (of course you will meet people but I'm not trying to open this to people already in relationships, not looking for a partner, or couples joining, there are other hiking groups and I'm more than happy to help sort a separate event for this).

Please please also be aware if there are a lot of us there are other people who will be enjoying Howth themselves so please give them space as it can be tight and we could be a lot. Also I haven't done this before, I'm just some guy, so please bear with me. My biggest concern is that everyone feels safe so if someone is struggling or seems a bit distressed I'm hoping the group can step up and in and help those out. It's not a dangerous or hard route but can be tight and we're a spread of people.

I'll be putting updates on this post if needed.

After it's all said and done I'll give an update here to those interested and I'd appreciate any feedback on this post so I know how to make it better etc. if this is done again :)

Massive thank you to the Dubs and the Dublin Bus drivers for their support yesterday

Was picketing outside the workplace yesterday and it was amazing to witness the level of support: thank you all so much, it was truly, truly appreciated!

And a special thank you to the Dublin Bus drivers, absolutely every single bus going by was beeping the horn for us. Really felt that you were behind us with your solidarity.

THANK YOU ALL ♥️

back cars and garda around Hilton Charlemont

i work near the area and every now and then there's a lot of traffic, garda cars and motorcycles escorting dozens of black vehicles up to Hilton hotel it seems.

i'm curious what's that about? i'm assuming it is for protection but mostly curious who are the people involved?

Banana bread latte?

It’s Friday, the sun is shining so I want to treat myself with a coffee out. Is there anywhere in the city centre that does a banana bread latte? I’ve been wanting to try one! Barring that, is there anyplace that’s not Starbucks that does a nice pumpkin spice latte?
