Sorry you wasted your money, but take this as a very cheap lesson that if they have to market it with AI it’s a scam. Avoid at all costs

u/hanks_panky_emporium 4d ago
True for literally everything. If they ai generated any part of it its going to be ass. Hell, have you seen those ai generated food ads? Looks fuckin horrifying. And for something like this, it.. Just put it on a fuckin dog and snap a picture. They obviously didnt do that because it's a scam. But folks need to use their brains.
WHY is this thing im buying ai generated.

u/mail_inspector 4d ago
Just saw one of those AI-generated burgers for the first time in real life yesterday. No idea if the owners changed or if they just rebranded, but they used to have a poster with a photo of their biggest burger out front and you knew exactly what you'd get.
Now there is a picture of one of those maggoty burgers that may convey that the burger will have a patty between 2 buns, maybe even cheese and pickles who knows?

Reminds me of a project we did about a year ago. We wrap a lot of elevator interiors for a few hotels in my city with whatever graphics they want to use and one of the oceanfront ones had us print the walls for 5 elevator sets - usually with little circular "bubbles" that have pictures inside for whatever indoor restaurant or entertainment venue the restaurant has and then a few family shots and for whatever reason I guess their stock library of a kid eating a burger just didn't have one they liked. Long story short , their "artist" had AI generated a kid eating a burger and I noticed it was a little bit off when all was said and done after printing/laminating and cutting them out but it wasn't until I really looked it closely on the table that you could tell it was AI generated because all of his teeth were sorted of slightly blurred together almost like a mouthguard - the whole picture itself on that little "picture bubble" also had a very slightly "painted" look to it and then you get to the burger side and his right hand holding it had 6 fingers lol. This was about a year ago and the art-file itself was probably generated a few months prior to that apparently but the AI tools even just a year ago had so many mistakes its kind of wild just to see what a year long difference the tools the general public uses now can put out. Some still fuck the pictures up but it is already so much more advanced than shit I was seeing last year. Some are legitimately hard to tell what was real. At least videos (for now) are still mostly easy to spot although there's still millions getting fooled everyday by videos they think are real.
17
u/AppUnwrapper1 4d ago
Gotta wonder if someone offered all these restaurants money to remake everything with shitty AI bc it makes zero sense otherwise.
25
u/xccrunky 4d ago
It’s unfortunately faster, cheaper and easier than finding an artist or graphic designer to put things together for them. This world is fucked
22
u/LovecraftianLlama 4d ago
But half of them already had real photos, which is the part I really don’t understand.
13
u/spacestonkz 4d ago
A lot of them feel the need to update and keep up with marketing trends. If all the restaurants in the area use doordash and uber eats, well what if you don't? Are you missing money?
Why does everyone have new flashy ads? Should I? Shit that's pricey. I'm just gonna run it through AI. Oh look, it looks just like everyone else's and I just needed a free account and 10 minutes! I'm not behind anymore!

I feel like it would be so much easier to just…make the back/ribcage bones a bit longer and have an actual product? The skull looks all right, they literally could’ve put in a little extra effort and actually had something good there 🤦♀️

u/Competitive-Rent-862 4d ago
I’d like to see a thread purely of AI purchases and see if there’s anyone out there that’s genuinely bought something that looks like the photo 😂
36
u/percivalidad 4d ago
There's one girl on Instagram that buys products with AI marketing images to review the products they actually send. It is definitely interesting and entertaining to see what comes up.
16
u/OleksandrKyivskyi 4d ago
There were maybe 1-2 times when she actually got what was advertised.
4
u/Ekwinoksxxx 4d ago
I guess sometimes the product may be fine, they’re just too lazy to do the proper marketing. Or maybe they misguidedly think the ai images actually look better than reality 🤷🏾♂️

Plenty of examples on this sub.
The thing is you can use AI to generate images of a product that doesn’t exist or that’s an idealized version of the real thing (see above), but you can also feed it an image of an actual product to have it style it in a custom setting, and with a little care the resulting image won’t change much about the product itself (maybe slightly mess up things that aren’t fully visible in the original image).
Unfortunately you can’t really know which is which.
Though honestly idk why people buy stuff like this off Amazon without looking at customer photos, especially now, but even before AI was a thing.
28
u/Schaeman2000 4d ago
I remember the time i ordered a bread baking slip, and only after ordering i saw the marketing images were AI and i was so upset… and then i was genuinely surprised they actually worked when they came in… but i’m still baffled they used AI to market it…
19
u/Quiet-Lab1802 4d ago
It’s crazy how now ever since the inception of AI it’s just like “too bad so sad the product is wildly different than advertised, you fell for the AI” 🫠
Man, the regression we’ve gone through recently is insane.
17
u/bendover912 4d ago
Why would it even be a cheap lesson? Straight back in the box and return it.

29
u/Bandin03 4d ago
Because it's not at all an unrealistic product like all those handcrafted looking shirts you always see here. Obviously wouldn't expect it to look perfect but if the front ribs were actually long like the pic it would be.... Fine I guess. The head would have been the part I expected to be fucked up but it's the only part that actually looks decent.
146
u/palm_fronds 4d ago
Can you really not tell that those pics are AI? The “product” looks so unbelievably fake
32
u/Bandin03 4d ago
Yeah they're clearly AI. I'm just saying that it looks like something that could realistically be mass produced with at least okay quality. Unlike the shirts and dresses with knitted patterns and 3D flowers.

I'm so sick of this shit lol, it's not even a little bit funny. Our climate is changing, our landfills are overflowing, we know these dodgy companies exploit their poor workers, and yet people keep buying things that are so clearly scams and sharing their little oopsie daisies online. Even if this wasn't a scam, I'd think it's stupid, but how on earth do you end up in a situation where you see those pictures and give your money to those people? I'm so triggered lmao.

AI has literally made online shopping objectively worse. It already had the weakness of not being able to see the product up close. However, now it seems store fronts are just fine with straight up lying about their products.

That costume looks like it wouldn’t stay on properly anyway, especially if it was closer to the AI version. It needs, at a minimum, some kind of chest strap and leash allowance.

i don't understand the point of this costume - it neither looks like the skeleton is part of the dog nor is it eating the dog- why would the tail go past the tail of the dog
that being said- i feel like this 7/10 meets expectations- ribs and spine end early - would like to see a ruler compared to promised dimensions

If you have some sewing skills you could easily make this look like it’s supposed to!
First remove those small ribs, use a seam ripper or those small grooming scissors and unpick the seams. If it leaves small holes on the spine leave them if that is a good place to attach the new ribs or sew them up if you want to put the ribs somewhere else.
To make the ribs you’re gonna want to make a template out of paper of how you want it. The rib should be an elongated triangle with the bottom of the triangle open (but don’t make it too skinny or it will be hard to stuff because it will shrink a bit when you turn it inside out later on).
Make the template the same size as your ideal ribs. (You could make one template for the largest rib and just reuse it for the shorter ones by not using the full length.)
Then take two pieces of fabric that is slightly larger than your template (about 1/2 inch all around minimum) put the two sides of fabric you want showing touching each other (imagine the fabric you want showing is peanut butter and jelly and you’re making a sandwich) then lay your template on top and sew it but leave the bottom of the rib open (where it attaches to the spine), you can do this by hand but a sewing machine is faster.
After sewing the two pieces together turn your little pointy tube inside out and stuff it with stuffing! Make sure not to overstuff it or it will be too stiff and won’t flop right, too little and the stuffing will settle at the bottom leaving a gap)
Now insert the tubes into the holes where you removed the old ribs and sew them on, I’d do this by hand using a mattress stitch (really simple stitch look up a few videos), or if you want the ribs in a different spot then the old ones you’ll have to use the seam ripper/scissors to open up the seam where you want and follow the previous instructions.
Oh and if you are nervous pin the ribs on first and try it on the dog (very carefully!) before you do the final sewing.
All together it would probably take someone experienced 15-20 minutes, a normal person an hour and if you’re the type where everything always seems to go wrong it might take 2-3 hours if you have to redo the first rib a few times.
