I've had an idea for a pre-war power armor set. T-50, specialized Paratroop power armor for Green Berets. Dropping down a dozens of stories in a suit of power armor was probably my favorite thing and seemed like such a serene calm-before-the-storm moment that I could only imagine it being something that's rather necessary for American Soldiers on the attack against Chinese forces. Imagining a squadron of hulking metal giants falling hundreds or thousands of feet into a fortified outpost really sets a tone for what most post-war life was about. As far as appearance I figured it shared the green torso characteristics of the t51b suits, maybe even a similar helmet design with internal helmet ventilation-tubing to reduce combat-damage. Exhaust Vents would be tantamount for increasing damage output on communist forces as well.

This is my favorite so far! The way I picture it in my mind, a paratrooping PA for The Green Berets, is so awesome! It looks like we have a winner!

So far, it looks like you're winning, Osmund the Orange!

I like it man, this is pretty cool looking in my head.

I always thought it'd be nice to see a suit of power armor built for use in the deep ocean. Something that looks pretty much like a cross between a set of pre-war power armor and a modern newtsuit, with smoother and more rounded contours, a clear, dome-shaped helmet, and a fan system of sorts to provide upward thrust (which I suppose could be reconfigured to kick up a shroud of dust on land).

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 02 '19

This would be a perfect Marines/Navy PA, perfectly fitted for aquatic and land-based combat. Think I found entry #1! (With your permission, of course!)

u/FunGuyFr0mYuggoth Apr 02 '19

Sure, thanks.

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Great! I will make a concept sketch of it, to see if our visions of your power armor are shared. Btw, what would it be based on? T-45? 51/51b? T-60? X0-1?

2

u/FunGuyFr0mYuggoth Apr 03 '19

Probably like a cross between excavator armor and x-01. Pretty much the general outline of the x-01 with a more pronounced "hood" to accommodate a rounded helmet, while incorporating some features of the excavator armor, like extra lights and the air tank it seems to have on the back.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Great! That would actually sound like a kickass start for your power armor!

2

u/FunGuyFr0mYuggoth Apr 03 '19

Neat. I look forward to hearing about that, should nothing better come up.

2

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Okay, I made the concept, ready?

2

u/ajfoxxx Apr 03 '19

Hell, even if it allowed you to just jump higher with the upward thrust, I'd love to see some ocean-themed armor.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Yes, you still have a spot on the roster, though, so don't worry.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Look out, Paratrooper Armor is making it's way up!

u/MK_Terry Apr 02 '19

My idea for a 'unique' set of power armor is basically stripping most of the plates from the T45b to make some unpowered armor as a sort of tribal 'ultimate warrior' reward.

Like the literal strongest warrior in the tribe gets to wear it due to its sheer weight.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 02 '19

I am intrigued. Elaborate, please.

3

u/MK_Terry Apr 03 '19

Well take this for example. It's a worn down helmet that no longer provides the tech benefits but still provides excellent protection.

Basically it's like the NCR salvaged power armor but with even less of the armor.

Sort of like if they wore it like a suit of medieval armor instead of proper power armor.

3

u/MK_Terry Apr 03 '19

I can imagine stripped down power armor like that being a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Oooh, lore!

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

That does sound pretty hardcore, survival-of-the-fittest type stuff. I'm guessing that it belongs to a Raider tribe?

2

u/MK_Terry Apr 03 '19

Could be a tribal or a raider style thing.

Depends on who found it I suppose.

But the key point in this I think is that it has a level of mysticism around it.

Though I suspect the reason this isn't really a thing is because the BoS keeps a tight lid on power armor in general.

1

u/ajfoxxx Apr 03 '19

I had a similar idea but went somewhat of a different route with it. Yours is pretty cool too though!

Great! I will make a concept sketch of it based off of your given description! Tell me if you like it!

Shishkabob sword power armor basically a power armor with a shoshkabob sword

2

u/OsmundTheOrange Vault 101 Apr 03 '19

I'm envisioning a raiders power armor suit with multiple lengths of blades attached to the knuckles to make them flaming serrated murder claws. A little disappointed I havent seen those yet.

2

u/rq52 Apr 03 '19

Yeah I was thinking more mass effect blade kinda thing

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 02 '19 edited Apr 02 '19

Does it have to be, like, a specific model of power armor with a shishkebob built in, or can it just be any model?

Even though it isn’t very likely to be very fitting with the rest of the Fallout universe, something somewhat inspired by the Power Loader from Aliens could be interesting. I would imagine it’d be referred to as Industrial Power Armor (or similar) and be more durable/“strong” (higher armor HP and higher Strength stat increase, possibly even a direct carrying weight boost) that would be lacking in actual defensive capabilities (lower damage resistance and almost non-existent radiation resistance). You’ll definitely want to wear some light armor underneath.

Appearance-wise, it would have not much apparent change from the base frame, other than making it thicker and changing its colors to yellow and black stripes, adding a “cage” of sorts in the place of the helmet.

“Project Ronin” T-51 prototype:

The basic lines of T-51 power armor, except instead of being primarily solid chunks of machined steel, the suit contains slimmer, lighter pieces coated in small, overlapping ceramic plates. The distinctive front of the T-51 helmet is unchanged, but the back is more sloped, and protected by a stack of curved plates superficially resembling a kabuto helmet.

The lore is that the prototype was built as a less unwieldy, more agile, suit of power armor, and the many-small-plate construction was directly inspired by samurai armor. It increases the wearer’s agility and melee damage, and has increased ballistic and explosive resistance, far superior melee resistance and cheaper repair costs compared to normal T-51, but offers considerably less resistance to energy weapons and has less item durability.

Also, it’s a freakin’ suit of SAMURAI POWER ARMOR. My shishkebab-wielding melee character needs this in his life.

Also, be sure to vote on other's ideas!

2

u/McHomans Apr 03 '19

The Armory. I imagine this as a power armor support unit designed to carry spare ammunition, armor pieces, and supplies to help support units in the field. It would have a larger and heavier core frame to support the extra weight it carried and would have a stocky and somewhat squat appearance with various crates/trunks and supplies secured to it's back. I imagine it being used like a transport truck that has more mobility and the ability to traverse places larger vehicles would be unable to go.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Sounds very handy and convenient to have!

2

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '19

What about an alien suit of power armor with energy shields and the ability to inject healing items

2

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

This sounds nice!

2

u/Theris91 Apr 03 '19

What about a suicidal power armor? Not used by pre-war US (though maybe who knows), but it would be a power armor with a really sturdy front and auto-injectors for all types of drugs. Like as soon as you activate the suicide mode, you get constantly injected with ultra-jet, med-x, psycho, stimpack and such, while the fusion core(s?) at the back go berserk and lauch you into melee with a huge BANG?

Then you have to destroy every enemy on your path so you can deactivate the suicide mode; and if you don't do it in time, you die of overdose.

1

u/ajfoxxx Apr 03 '19

Wouldn't this also greatly increase your chances of addiction on a pretty regular basis?

2

u/Theris91 Apr 03 '19

Sure, but who cares, you can't be addicted if you're dead!

I think it'd be cool to see a set of melee power armor. I even came up with a lore explanation. Hopefully you'll like my idea if you can picture it.

  • Tony Lamburci was a pro boxer unlike any that had been since since Pre-War times. He was a monstrous fighter, with power, speed, and durability unseen in humans like him. I guess being experimented on with Deathclaw DNA has it's perks. Deciding that being unopposed in the underground raider boxing circuit wasn't doing him any favors, he moved on to challenge Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel, and even creatures of the Wasteland, until one day he found an area even he couldn't cross. Having his promoter contact Big MT, they designed a set of Power Armor with large fists and a slender frame. Unfortunately for Tony, before he could put on his suit one day, a group of Glowing Ones managed to find him and well....he discovered punches don't work if you're irradiated to death before you throw them.

This armor greatly enhanced melee strength and also boosts movement/attack speed but comes at the cost of severely reduced defense for a set of Power Armor. (The idea is basically glass cannon Power Armor).

Edit: It'd also be cool if you had a suit that identified enemy weaknesses in V.A.T.S and had a more futuristic tron-like look to it. Glowing power lines are always legit. But anyway I thought maybe when you highlight an enemy in VATS it could show a symbol for whatever type of damage they are weakest to, like a symbol of a fist for Unarmed and a lightning bolt symbol for Energy Weapons.

2

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Ooohoohooo I like that idea! Poor Tony, though.

2

u/ajfoxxx Apr 03 '19

Thank you! I imagined the fists being a rusted red color and it having a hood over the helmet that was a silver color and almost looked like the power armor had a big boxing robe on it.

It would have a Championship Belt around it's waist and resemble a slimmed down T-60 model but customized

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Ooh yes, I love the idea. Buuut, if he got attacked by Glowing Ones before he got a chance to actually put it on, why would there be rusted blood (i assume that's what the red color is) on the gloves?

1

u/ajfoxxx Apr 03 '19

The rusted blood would be cool but i imagined in this case its just faded paint that got rained on causing it to rust but still make it somewhat resemble boxing gloves.

Big Game Hunter Power Armor?

Could be a mix of different sets of PA (but not as bad as a raider set) and hunting down the creatures of the Commonwealth will provide upgrades to your armor that will give you stat boosts. Deathclaws, Yao Guai, and some other creature could provide the best upgrades while things like Brahmin, Radstags, and Mole Rats give minor bonuses. You could acquire it from a cabin of a deceased hunter perhaps, and a terminal or some notes will help you, piece together what happened to the hunter, and what they were planning to do.

(Optional)

The player could get a quest to hunt down a Dusky Yao Guai to fulfill the hunter’s goal and completing it will let us acquire the components required for a upgrade to the armor.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Okay, so I am already seeing some great ones, and the competition will be intense!

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

I doubt any would come close to your's!

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Yeah. Ooh, maybe like, a Legion-Raider subfaction could be it's present owners? This is turning into a great idea!

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Also, be sure to vote on YOUR favorites using upvotes! You can talk with other entries. This will help the competition grow. Ask me questions if you have any!

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

Don't we all? This is really good! A samurai-based power armor WITH lore? Oh hell yes!

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

It's getting kinda late where I live, so you wouldn't mind if I make it tomorrow?

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

I love this idea! This sort of reminds me of the Excavator Armor from Fo76. This is actually still quite unique. So, it a power armor frame, but retexed with yellow and black stripes. Am I hearing that right?

1

u/Justadudesopinion Apr 03 '19

I was thinking about this yesterday. I would like to be able to customize my power armor with death claw heads on the shoulders or horns on the helm,Yao guay pelts draping the torso. I guess I just want my character to look like they have been wandering the wasteland for a while and they have something to show for it kinda get tired of having pristine looking t60.

1

u/Aeokikit Brotherhood Apr 03 '19

Shoulder mounted weapons, maybe even swapping hands for weapons. Like no fist just a Gatling laser like a sentry bot.

1

u/imprezobus Apr 03 '19

If I use PA with explosive vents and I fall on somebody from fifty meters, I expect them to be made into pulp. I only wish PA would work in PvP, that'd be enough.

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 03 '19

That would be nice. But then, PvP fights would be totally unfair. You see, PA have different stats depending on the type. If someone with X-01 goes up against someone with a T-45, the guy with the T-45 would get obliterated. See what I mean?

1

u/imprezobus Apr 04 '19

Its a non issue considering the magnitude of current F76 PA problems

1

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 04 '19

Oh yeah....okay never mind.

1

u/imprezobus Apr 04 '19

I mean the way its 'balanced' none of those guys are at any advantages and they will most probably die simultaneously. It doesnt matter which exactly PA you are using as they do not give nearly enough protection. They should be ten times harder to kill if you are not using anti armor weapon. They should negate most of explosive damage by default. They should be the guys that you better shoot in the eye or in the fusion core because otherwise shooting them is pointless. The explosive vent should literally 1hitKO 100% rate if you manage to drop onto somebody from fifty meters and that somebody aint SBQ. It does nothing. Thats the order of magnitude of PA problems, and I was not trying to be rude.

2

u/Irishscoot96 Apr 04 '19

Okay yeah I now see your dilemma.
