As the title states ⦠weāve recently had a dog trainer for our 2 frenchies and she recommended a few changes including new food and new leads ( slip leads ) I regret this terribly but I trusted the judgement of a dog trainer !! My husband took my girl out tonight for a walk , she gets very excitable when seeing other dogs . Sheās better on the lead with me because I know better how to distract her when another dog is in our path . She came home after the walk , he said she pulled a bit when seeing another dog and thought nothing about it . An hour later her eye is blood red ššš I feel a terrible dog mum for swapping leads and this happening . Iām currently waiting for a vet video consultation before driving 2 hours to our emergency out of hours . Has anyone else been through this ?? If so did your pups eye heal ?
Im a worried frenchie mama šš

I honestly will probably never have her do that again for health reasons concerning ivdd but she did amazing. 5.65 miles, 500 feet of steep elevation up some very tough rocks. Didn't slow down once (I had to stop several times up that climb, hardest hike of my life tbh)
Sorry my brother takes not great photos lol

I am confused by the different colors and not sure which my Frenchie is considered to be. I just adopted her so I'm not sure if her muzzle was black at one point, but it is grey now. Thoughts? Thank you!

Met a caricaturist at the farmers market who sketched Gatti, he did pretty well with the crowd and other dogs too!

Piper is 3 days post op from routine spay and stenotic nares surgery. She's almost 11 months old and her little nostrils were really stenotic! I didn't notice huge problems yet, but she definitely snored and had some snorting so I imagine it was affecting her more than it even seemed. She's healing up so well and doing so good and I think it looks great so far. Hopeful this will help improve her little life in the long run š„°

And all is healing well too as seen on pictures! I'm so happy and relieved š„° you bet he got them extra treats for being such a brave boy!

Sharing bc other peopleās experiences have helped me out so much and it seems like a pretty prevalent condition from discussions on Reddit. Everyone should always go to the vet and follow their instructions and medications- but Iāve read some pretty sad stories so I wanna pay it forward and help other people out during probably one of the scariest, anxious, and saddest time for any dog owner to watch their babies go through. I would never judge a pet parent for not being able to afford the vet- times are tough and I donāt equate having the money to pay for your babies treatments to loving your baby with everything within you.
My dog has not eaten since Tuesday Morning (he threw it up a little later so I guess Monday night really today is Saturday) but he got subcutaneous fluids at vet, cerenia, steroids, antibiotics, ear drops, eye drops, eye ointments (he scratched his eye trying to itch his ear š) His condition was onset by ear infection- hit pretty hard Tuesday vomiting. He was āfineā as in I thought he was, given that he walked his little besides his ear, he had an ear flush and drops already prescribed so I thought it would be all good. Nope- middle of the night Monday he was waking up trying to sneak out of bed with his stairs and he froze and couldnāt go down. Took him off stairs saw that he was wobbling knew he needed to vomit but he didnāt. Woke up still a little wobbly but ate then threw up multiple times (single session though) as I was done cleaning one spot, heād puked in another. Cleaning it up was a nightmare.
I initially thought it was heat related bc it was really hot here and on hot days he has puked in the past. Took him to vet she said Vestibular; ear related. He didnāt puke any day besides Tuesday. (Day 1)
So far 6 days later- no food, but vet did say this was normal and depends on how quickly the vertigo goes away. I was told not to give antibiotics on empty stomach so have to wait til he eats. He still hasnāt eaten but I finally got him to drink a good amount of bone broth using a turkey baster with syringe removed and it worked. He was finally receptive to drinking it this way, I think he may have been too dizzy to stand and drink water even though he has elevated bowls. He was drinking water for all the other days and when I brought him to vet he was not severely dehydrated thankfully, they still have subcutaneous fluids. Saturday- Day 5, was the first day he was NOT drinking enough water on his own. He did lick 2 ice cubes made of bone broth/water/ unflavored pedialite mix but no drinking. He finally drank around 11pm using the turkey baster and ate his pills stuffed in mini pasta tubes. I can finally kind of sleep at night tonight knowing thereās a little something in his system and heās well hydrated. (Itās currently 1 am)
Tomorrow (or today technically since itās 1am, day 6) Iām going to blend some chicken and butternut squash and mix it into the turkey baster and try to feed it to him that say, I will also juice some ginger and put about a teaspoon into that mixture. Hoping he eats it this way. He was still refusing burgers today.
Days 1-5 heās had quite a few pee accidents but looks so guilty and sad and weāre obviously not mad at him and let him know itās okay. We know you canāt help it baby. My wrists feel broken from cleaning pee.
Day 5: went to Aldi, my lucky day they sell Dexter Murmur Tarps, jk theyāre gardening tarps in the shit you donāt need but impulse buy section. This was the best purchase Iāve made so far in 2026, $5 on sale to protect my rug and living room floors. Super clutch 12 x 9 ft waterproof Dexter Tarp has made it so easy to just clean the pee/sanitize, wash the piss ones right away and put new clean down. I wish I found it sooner. Every dog owner needs one of these on deck just in case. The potty pads were relatively small and expensive to keep throwing out and he still managed to pee where ever bc he canāt help it.
If your dog is going through this- I feel you, OMG the trauma is real, especially if it was super sudden. Iām still anxious af but relieved he got fluids down. ā¤ļø

Our current frenchie is our 4th pupper. We have had a frenchie and Boston terrierās in the past (one currently).
Out of all the dogs weāve had the current frenchie ( 16lb female 2 year old rescue) eats the fluff/stuffing from toys our Boston likes to destroy. We donāt actually see her do it.
The end result is random pooping straining with logs of fluff you have to help get out of her bum.
I know big dogs can get away with it, what is the likely hood it will impact her bowels?
We are going to try and have only stuffing free toys for our Boston.
Iām just a little worried about how much could still be in there.
She still eats. Drinks, plays normal. Nothing Changes

French Bulldogs
Basic Description:
11-13 inches tall
>28 pounds
Lives 10-12 years
Non-Sporting group
Coat Colors:
Due to their boom in popularity, people have been demanding more extotic coats for the breed. The breed standard states the French Bulldog can have a white, fawn, cream, or brindle coat.
History/Origins:
The three main countries that developed the French Bulldog were England, France, and America. England banned the bullbaiting sport, so to save the bulldog breed, breeder bred a smaller and more suitable companion for people, thus giving us the English Bulldog known today. During the industrial revolution many craft shops shut down, which caused the workers to move to northern France. Popularity boomed and there became a steady trade of English Bulldogs into France. The French are the main developers of the look of the French Bulldog, the only thing America added on was the bat ears. Before America, French Bulldogs could have 2 different types of ears: rose or bat. When the French Bulldog was taken to America, the bat eared look was popularized and made the breed standard, and it gave us the French Bulldog known today.
Health Issues:
French Bulldogs are extremely unhealthy, so much so that some people even say their very existence is unethical; however, I would argue that with good ethical breeding (focused on the health and not looks) would drastically improve French Bulldogs life. For example, the references for my drawings (except the rose eared) was the dogs from the breeder BullsnRoses, a breeder who focuses on the health of their dogs. It would take me forever to list every health issue they have so here is a link to 23 most common health issues French Bulldogs have.
Coat Care:
French Bulldogs have a short, low maintenance coat. Even with their short coat, make sure to brush them weekly to remove dead hairs. They also need to be bathed every 6-8 weeks.
Costs:
The cost of a French Bulldog can get very complicated so here is an article that explains some of the costs and reasons behind the costs of French Bulldogs.
Behavior:
Known to be playful and affectionate, they love to snuggle on the couch with their owners. Their are called quite sassy and can be stubborn at times. They love to make friends of both the human and animal variety, they are also said to be great with kids.
Trainability:
French Bulldogs are known to be smart but stubborn. Often will they catch on to commands quickly, but often they will disobey. selective hearing many owners call it. They do have a good food drive and like to make their owners happy so their stubbornness is not a major issue in training.
Vocalization:
French Bulldogs arenāt know for barking but here is an article that goes further in depth about why they bark and what other sounds they make.
Energy Level:
They are know to have intense bursts of energy where they get zoomies and will need play, but due to their flat faces, they canāt properly exercise.
Exercise Requirements:
Not much is needed besides some playtime. In fact, it is advised to be careful with exercise due to the French Bulldogs difficulty breathing.
Nutrition:
Make sure to feed a high quality dog food and be carful with how much you feed. French Bulldogs are prone to obesity which is especially bad for the breed due to their already poor joints and top heavy structure.
Living Spaces:
They donāt need a big space, theyāll be fine with a couch to sleep on and a person to love.
A well bred French Bulldog is an AMAZING dog, there is a reason they are so popular, but with all the backyard breeding just makes them live such unhealthy lives. If you are going to get a French Bulldog, and donāt plan on rescuing, PLEASE do your research and go to an ethical one. Speaking of rescuing, I love to hear any rescue stories you want to share <3
If I got anything wrong missed anything please let me know! Otherwise I had more fun than I expected drawing them :)
(Sorry about the flair I didnāt know what to put)
