She can paint walls to block projectiles from enemies. Insane kit with a lot of potential. I love this game.

u/Spader623 1d ago

Man I thought solomon had a lot going on but she seems awesome too

Also, that 2... Celeste and vyper are gonna have a field day 😭

11

u/MyShirtRattles 1d ago

Mind explaining why they would like the 2? I just started giving the game a serious go finally and Celeste is my jam. Still very green though

18

u/invisiblemovement 1d ago

Vyper is built around sliding (she needs to be sliding for the infinite ammo and one of her abilities passively buffs her sliding a ton) and Celeste is meant to be played very slippery/movement focused, dashing around

4

u/MyShirtRattles 1d ago

Appreciate then explanation! I’m getting that sense from her as I start learning movement but man there’s a lot to take in lol.

3

u/_Valisk 1d ago

Celeste has high base stamina and innate gravity/air control and air acceleration compared to other heroes. She's built to be floaty and mobile.

29

u/BlindingGrief 1d ago

Violet's 2 gives out bonus stamina regen. Celeste has a notably slow recovery so she'll appreciate it.

16

u/Tijenater 1d ago

Just to add on to what you said, her stamina regen is so low because she’s got the best air mobility in the game and is one of, if not the best heroes at getting value out of her stamina as a result

8

u/Kered13 1d ago

She also has the best bhop in the game, so she can dash once and keep that momentum going for longer.

30

u/ZGiSH 1d ago

More than that, she can paint her own platforms that she can climb and jump off of

38

u/NapsterKnowHow 1d ago

So she's an Inkling?

30

u/chaotic4059 1d ago

unironically kinda. at least at a glance

12

u/LLJKCicero 1d ago

Well, can Inklings ride paint on the ground to move faster??

...okay yes, maybe she's an Inkling.

18

u/lukeiamnotyourfather 1d ago

Her second ability shoots out a missile that leaves a trail and you can super slide along it, so yeah 100% an inkling.

My first thought was Adeleine.

0

u/TheLastDesperado 1d ago

I think she's potentially going to be the most annoying character to play against so far.

5

u/NickLidstrom 1d ago

Hard to beat Baba for that honour

I wanna get into this game so bad, but it’s incredibly overwhelming. I fooled with Overwatch doing that same MOBA style building out your character and I do vibe with it. Deadlock just seems to take some time to get into.

208

u/Vegetable-Error-2068 1d ago

I'm not going to tell you it's not overwhelming at first, because it is.

What I will say is that it's genuinely easier to wrap your head around the game if you just play around in the training area and try Street Brawl first.

(Street Brawl is a game mode that restricts the game to 1 lane instead of 3, keeps every player equal in terms of farm, and gives randomized item choices. It's not simple, but it's simpler.)

85

u/AsteriskCGY 1d ago

It's the ARAM of Deadlock

28

u/Zerothian 1d ago

It's actually kinda similar to Overwatch Stadium itself.

9

u/ElecNinja 1d ago

I really wish it was just ARAM. Don't really like the round system and the random items as that makes it harder to translate builds and character feeling over from the main game and street brawl

4

u/ispeelgood 19h ago edited 19h ago

My advice: Select builds with heavy annotations on the items before going into Brawl. The descriptions still show up when you hover the items when rolling, so it makes it feel more like a roguelike where you're trying to gamble to find "your" items. The powerspikes are more noticeable this way too, imho.

2

u/max123246 17h ago

No thank God it isn't like ARAM. The all random aspect of ARAm made it impossible for me as a beginner to enjoy anything with my friends. As soon as I got a hang of my random character, the game would end

19

u/PhoSake 1d ago

Also re: Street Brawl, the match lengths are much shorter. If you're getting dominated it's generally over pretty quick.

3

u/DoctorWaluigiTime 19h ago

I wish the main game mode was as short as Street Brawl.

Heroes of the Storm had that down to a science and I wish it had more success.

2

u/PhoSake 14h ago

Completely agree with you there. Match length is the #1 reason i stopped playing MOBAs (Dota and Deadlock). I pick them up every now and then but ultimately it just becomes difficult to reserve up to an hour per game of the night.

3

u/Scodo 1d ago

My friends and I have managed a few sub 3 minute matches, so it can be over real quick.

23

u/ryuki9t4 1d ago

Street brawl is so much more overwhelming because you don't have the downtime to be looking at what anything does, you're just straight into the game. Standard, picking a simple L->R build and turning on autobuy is probably the simplest way to learn I feel. Completely cut out itemization and focus on laning, map objectives, and team fights here and there.

15

u/Vegetable-Error-2068 1d ago

I disagree entirely. Street Brawl removes farm diff and multi lanes and mid boss. It's straightforward team fights.

6

u/Khalku 1d ago

Removing half the mechanics doesn't sound like it does a good job teaching you the mechanics you miss out on.

I'm sure its simpler, but it wont help you learn.

2

u/WasabiDukling 12h ago

Yes it will?? It's for learning items and characters. How is that not helpful

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (9)

2

u/WasabiDukling 12h ago

Overwhelming? The stakes are so much lower, and making random builds rapid fire is a great way to learn what items do and which items your character likes

2

u/ryuki9t4 7h ago

The random builds doesn't really help you learn what's good with a character if you don't know what your character does in the first place. So as a new player with Street brawl you're juggling both learning your character and the itemization of your character, which also doesn't exactly translate into the real game as something's may be good just because the other team can't counter buy as easily.

Afaik you can't even open up the builds menu in Street brawl so you can't see what other people are building with your character.

5

u/biggestboys 1d ago

I find Street Brawl much more overwhelming than normal matches.

1

u/81724369847698432716 17h ago

I gotta get back into it but its just so much. The classic moba knowledge barriers with itemization and skill pick order, spawntimings, midboss, urn... and then the kinda insane movement tech

1

u/BZGames 9h ago

Deadlock is a game you learn how to play over the course of a couple years.
MOBAs are like chess, you can't really just pick one up and expect to be good without putting serious hours into it over a long period of time. That being said, it is really fun

56

u/Tfu12 1d ago

people are gonna tell you to play street brawl but really just play against bots. get used to things little by little and get a feel for the game

street brawl is just going to overwhelm you much much more since the pace of games is inherently much faster

at least with bots there’s 0 pressure. you can see what characters do, the map, opponents.

it’s not ideal since the game won’t tell you when stuff’s happening or when is a good time to do things but it’s better than street brawl

12

u/Offbeatalchemy 1d ago

This is what i did too. Just to get a feel of laning, learning the map, understanding movement and your hero helps a ton. Now you only have 7 things you need to learn at once instead of 12.

and there's SO much to learn but i think the biggest takeway is understanding you can learn anything as deeply as you want at your own pace.

That includes just running down a bunch of games and going 0/12 a few times and that's okay. Even if some unemployed sweatlord says you ruined their day. Everyone started there too.

3

u/GerudoSamsara 17h ago

im super new to mobas. i actually had plenty of fun playing against bots for like 150 hours! I really only just started dabbling in games with real people.

28

u/Esperagon 1d ago

If you just wanna play, there are tons of community builds that are just "buy these items in order" that you can set as your shop in game. I know of players that have reached high rank just doing this.

27

u/totoiam 1d ago

Overwatch is as good as a stepping stone as one can get in terms of leading into Deadlock. Mastering movement, aim skills, blaming your teammates, adapting to matchups on the fly all transfer well to Deadlock.

→ More replies (10)

11

u/Lhumierre 1d ago edited 10h ago

Deadlock is legit a Moba with laning, tower destruction and buying items.

It presents as a shooter but it's not at all.

8

u/omenmono 1d ago

It's actually worse because it's a MOBA that requires reflexes of a shooting game. I know a person who spent 10k hours in Dota 2, and he couldn't play Deadlock because the shooting and movement is too much for him.

Great game tho. I love Deadlock, I hate it so much.

2

u/tacotickles 19h ago

Although if you have really good aim it gives you a fairly big advantage

11

u/Flimsy-Contact-2841 1d ago

Yeah i love the character design but im way too old to get into a new competitive game let alone one as complex as this so i just appreciate it from afar

4

u/MeBroken 20h ago

Playing against bots is a chill way to play if you want to enjoy it for yourself.

6

u/lactose_cow 1d ago

I'm positive they're working on a simpler pve mode. No way valves going all in on deadlock and expecting to only get the moba freaks on board.

→ More replies (13)

16

u/Dtoodlez 1d ago

You just gotta not think too hard about it. Have fun and accept the first 50-100 hours you’ll be learning something new every time you play. It’s too good to skip out on. You can learn and have fun.

8

u/Mrr_Bond 1d ago

Man absolutely nothing is too good to skip out on if it takes 100 hours for it get good.

11

u/yuriaoflondor 1d ago

I'd put emphasis on his last sentence - you can learn and have fun.

You don't need to know literally every single hero, item, objective timing, etc. to get in there and have a good time. You'll probably get stomped a lot, you'll probably end up stomping some other noobs, and you learn as you go.

5

u/StingKing456 17h ago edited 14h ago

Yeah, I really don't totally understand this whole perspective that Deadlock requires a PhD to start to enjoy it. Lol.

I have pretty limited experience with MOBAs. Never really been into them. I did like Smite back in the day but that was the outlier. I tried dota 2 and LoL many years ago and immediately bounced off of them.

Deadlock is complex, sure, but it's very much a "learn as you play" game. It's ok to hop in and not know wtf you're doing. It's a competitive game but unless something has changed since I last played it (roughly a year ago, wanting to get back into it) there's no comp mode, no requirement to have to excel and do really good.

I just pick a character I decided I wanna play, hop in a match, and pick upgrades that seem to make sense or do the community build thing. If I lose oh well.

The game is meant to be fun and I just feel like ppl should push back against the idea that this game is super hard to get into.

What's that saying, easy to learn, hard to master. That's how I feel. And you won't master it by just watching YouTube videos on bedt builds.

Edit: apparently there is a ranked mode I never knew about lmao. Shows how casually I've played it. Regardless you don't have to play ranked. Play the regular mode, play street brawl, play vs AI! Lots to do!

It's more that it takes 100 hours for you to be good at it. It's like saying playing guitar isn't worth it because the first hundred hours you will sound like shit.

Much like in that analogy though if you are familiar with other instruments, you can carry a lot over. So if you have either moba or shooter fundamentals, you will learn faster.

8

u/Niceguydan8 1d ago

Much like in that analogy though if you are familiar with other instruments, you can carry a lot over. So if you have either moba or shooter fundamentals, you will learn faster.

And the thing with Deadlock is that a bunch of different skills can carry over, and you don't have to be good at everything to be reasonably good at the game.

You can have dogshit aim and still largely be fine if you are good at other parts of the game(movement, macro, teamfighting) and play heroes that aren't reliant on aiming, of which there are quite a few

13

u/kureafan123 1d ago

They said you'll learn something new every time you play for 100 hours and you interpreted that as the game is bad for the first 100 hours how? Because if you are learning you are not having fun? Sounds more like a mindset to me

3

u/beezy-slayer 21h ago

You don't have to be good at things to have fun, it takes 100s of hours to be good at painting and people still like doing it when they are bad

9

u/brotrr 1d ago

That's not what he said

3

u/mtnlol 1d ago

For you to get good, the game is good from the start.

3

u/Scodo 1d ago

That's how long it takes a player to get good, not how long it takes the game to get good. You'll be having fun long, long before the 100 hour mark. You'll also know whether or not it's for you long before then, as well.

9

u/CreateRot 1d ago

Moistcritcal put it the best. The game is rough to start, but after slamming your heads into the wall for a bit you’ll figure it out and it becomes incredibly addicting. Right now is great too since they’re always updating and adjusting stuff, so much can still change and being early to the party gives you a big advantage

3

u/PM_ME_UR_PM_ME_PM 19h ago

that would be fine but then i have to get yelled at like im playing LoL again. sucks but i enjoy learning a new game but people do their best to ruin it

3

u/CreateRot 16h ago

League community is awful I’d say the deadlock one is at least marginally better, plus in deadlock to flame someone in chat is costly 😂 also playing league gives you the advantage of already knowing MOBA mechanics now ya just gotta pick a few heroes and go nuts who cares if you do good or bad, I’ve played games with people who go 0/13 not a single person says a thing about it

5

u/Niceguydan8 10h ago

Just mute people at the first sign of toxicity in any game like this.

8

u/merpofsilence 1d ago

play the 4v4 mode street brawl.

pick one of 3 random items for your build.

You don't need to learn the map and timing of things so thoroughly.

its a good place to get familiar with the roster of characters.

I do agree the actual main gamemode is overwhelming to try and learn.

36

u/SeeShark 1d ago

The main gamemode is everything that's complicated about DOTA, except that it also requires the mechanical execution of an FPS.

10

u/AnswerAi_ 1d ago

It's more FPS execution than MOBA fundamentals, almost all fundamentals in this game are hella dumbed down. Can always seen enemy Ultimate cooldowns, rotating is insanely quick so positioning is not nearly as important.

7

u/Dagordae 1d ago

Is last hitting a mechanic everything’s built around?

11

u/Shadver 1d ago

Last hitting has been chilled out significantly. You always get money for a creep that dies near you. When it dies an orb floats out of its body, if nobody shoots it you get full money, if you or a teammate shoots you get full money, if an enemy shoots you get some money and they get some money. Also, if it's your orb(enemy creep that dies) you get an advantage window where you can shoot it but your enemy cannot.

7

u/CanadianRoleplayer 1d ago

Kind of, but it’s different. When you kill a minion or do some objectives, half the soul value will fiat into the air as a little blue orb which automatically pops and gives you souls after a short delay. Same on the enemy side, but you see them as orange orbs. You can shoot your orbs to get those souls early, and can also shoot enemy souls to get steal them, and vice versa.

u/Pandango-r 1d ago

Street Brawl can be extra overwhelming at the beginning with all the abilities going off at the same time. But yeah I agree that its a good place to get used to the abilities/characters/items/etc

1

u/NothingLV 1d ago

Agree with this and good goal to set is try to get 1 win with every hero. What I did is select all of them, put highest priority on 2, read and test both of their spells and mechanics during queue. If you get a win, remove from selected hero list when queueing up.

At the end you become familiar with items, mechanics, pros/cons of every hero. Even if you dont switch to normal game mode afterwards like me, you will be familiar with the game later when they release PvE gamemodes etc.

Only unclear part I found is the melee/punch attack - they dont clearly state things that it can parry, some heroes should build around it, advantage of holding it for heavy melee and that it is necessary for specific things like destroying Graves (hero name) tombstone that spawns monsters.

Extremely different game from Overwatch

48

u/fazdaspaz 1d ago

No shit, they're just saying they enjoyed the Stadium version of Overwatch which had hero scaling and moba like elements to it, which is similar to deadlock

11

u/jazir55 1d ago

To me it feels like Overwatch x Dota

4

u/MeBroken 1d ago

Overwatch has a moba game mode.

3

u/Vallkyrie 1d ago

Sadly they decided to not keep updating it, but I get it, making entire kits for all the heroes is really tough work.

8

u/fuckR196 1d ago

Same. MOBAs always demand way too much of your free time, it's like you have to read a textbook and take a quiz before playing a character. Build flexibility is cool but in a competitive multiplayer setting you can't take your time and think about anything, you must make your decisions immediately and 85% of the time if you slip up once the match is already over.

3

u/War_Dyn27 1d ago

Deadlock has in game user made guides you can follow to help alleviate this issue.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/doctor_dapper 1d ago

i don't think that's true at all. you have plenty of time to stop and think. each match is usually 30 min at minimum though so they do take lots of time

→ More replies (7)

1

u/DoctorWaluigiTime 19h ago

I've always said that there's such a thing as too much flexibility. Which is why MOBAs that eschew a bunch of the "here's a wiki to read before you can navigate it optimally" mechanics like item shops, and is much better for it.

2

u/fazdaspaz 1d ago

I love deadlock in theory but it is incredibly overwhelming. I left every match feeling exhausted. Great game though

1

u/NeedsSomeSnare 1d ago

Try different heroes. If you find a couple that feel ok, stick to them and you'll learn all the other parts of the game.

1

u/SpicyMemecake 1d ago

Coming from OW its not that bad, just be okay with feeding and spend your firdt few games not worrying about anything but piloting your character. If you wanna learn watch vids there are SO many, but all optional tbh

1

u/gothvan 1d ago

It gets better as your brain don't have to process those new stimulus. It's like driving where you first need to think about every little things. At some point the mental charge gets lower and you can start enjoying the game for what it is

1

u/evilcleric_ho 1d ago

They have a decent bot mode that u can play by yourself or on a team with other players. It's a good way to learn the game if you're just starting or never played a moba or hero shooter.

1

u/Scodo 1d ago

Try street brawl first, it's a casual 4v4 mode with a single lane and the economy elements stripped out. It's closer to a hero shooter in that format.

1

u/Mr_Emile_heskey 21h ago

I play the game exclusively in the street brawl mode. Its such a fun and fast paced mode. I tried the main mode twice and found it too slow and boring.

1

u/DoctorWaluigiTime 19h ago

I yearn for another game to embrace Heroes of the Storm's design. It eschews so much of the cake-baking that's standard in MOBAs (item shops, last hitting, et al) and strips it down to core goodness and streamlined gameplay. Nice and tidy 20~ minute matches.

Just too much going on in most MOBAs for too little benefit.

1

u/Wide_Lock_Red 14h ago

It will make sense after 50-100 hours usually.

1

u/SnipingBeaver 6h ago

I was just watching a video where this guy talked about how unapproachable the game is and I find it so frustrating because it is maybe the best multiplayer game I have ever played. I guess I was coming from both moba and hero shooter backgrounds so it was a really straight-forward synergy of the two but I can see how impenetrable it might be to someone outside that.

I'm not an expert in the game but if anyone in this thread wants to learn, I'd be happy to introduce you to it!

I really want to like Deadlock. The aesthetic is amazing and I love the characters. But actually playing it is so overwhelming. Movement, abilities, melees, dashes plus the active items feels crazy involved

12

u/LotemShrimp 1d ago

It took me a while to get a handle on it but now the addiction is strong.

u/BaconSpider 1d ago

It’s definitely a game for unemployed people, But I love it lol

7

u/impostingonline 1d ago

Same but you need like 150-200 hours to even unlock ranked lmao. And my friends all have like 400 or 500 hours already :0

2

u/mtnlol 1d ago

200 hours to even unlock ranked? You need 60 wins, average game length is like 35m~ and assuming you have a 50% win rate that's 70 hours.

For it to take 200 hours you'd need to average like 1h long games (almost never happens) as well as having like 35% win rate.

6

u/impostingonline 1d ago

Yeah but you need 15 wins on multiple characters right? I am close to the 60 wins with 98 hours played but my closest character, dynamo, is only at 8 wins. I got a few others at 5-7 wins but overall I'm still only like halfway there, which is why I say 200 hours.

Also not accounting for street brawl time and movement practice.

I agree with all of this but also want to point towards farming creeps which feels pretty bad.

4

u/Bonzi77 1d ago

if it means anything, millions of people play mobas every day and i'd be willing to bet maybe a quarter (note: i made this amount the fuck up and am blindly guessing) of them actually deeply engage with the mechanics completely. despite the complexity they're straight up designed to be an easier rts, and with matchmaking being the way it is you'll almost certainly end up in a game with people of similar skill level

deadlock is still in early alpha (seriously) so that may not be completely dialed in yet, but as long as you're not playing ranked there are functionally no consequences to fucking up besides any you impose on yourself emotionally

2

u/Ligeia_E 1d ago

I remember a guy calling it NewType training

1

u/doctor_dapper 1d ago

well there is SBMM, so you're gonna be playing ppl at your skill level regardless. you only need to learn what you want to learn

There are some leaks about a Risk of Rain  mode made by the original RoR dev. If those are true then I will lost all my social life.

1

u/Niceguydan8 10h ago

When you are a new player, most of the other players are also new or straight up bad players, or both!

Learn it one step at a time. It's only overwhelming if you think you need to learn all of those things at once. You don't.

1

u/mataushas 9h ago

I'm 5 hours in the game. I think we gotta focus on one thing at a time over and over until we learn that thing.

36

u/_Valisk 1d ago

She's not quite the Invoker I was hoping for, but her kit is super cool. I wasn't expecting a Mars/Muerta ult, but I love it. The effects are so pretty.

12

u/cheezywafflez 1d ago

Yeah I was hoping for an alchemy kind of kit but the literal physical painting in her kit fits deadlock more

6

u/_Valisk 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think her kit is just as cool as Invoker-style; it’s just a different flavor of cool. It’s fun to use her ink wall to trap people in place.

23

u/SeboFiveThousand 1d ago

This hero is nuts, permanent scaling + area control + skill shot damage + arena ult. Seems disgusting!

18

u/BeholdingBestWaifu 1d ago

The scaling is kinda hard to pull off, though. You need to actually stun the enemy, so they can't die before that, and it drops on the enemy's position so you have to walk up to it to pick it up, and after all that it appears to be a regular statue buff that depends on the hero sketched.

8

u/SludgeMake 1d ago

At first impression the scaling stat buff seems small and something to prop her up lack farming power. Its just way easier to get stat buffs from crates and slots.

4

u/BeholdingBestWaifu 1d ago

She also seems to be really good as a support because she can decrease item cooldown with her 1 and her kit is really good for helping teammates, so getting a bit of extra farm on the side sounds like a good thing so she can afford all those support items.

2

u/jerryfrz 1d ago

Yeah the buffs I consider a little extra for her kit but nothing too major; breaking statues and sinners is still the reliable way to farm them.

23

u/BlazeDrag 1d ago

I am concerned for the health of Valve's QA team lol

Doorman was already bad enough with him just having a straight up portal gun in his kit. And now we have a character that can straight up paint platforms and walls into the world in whatever shapes she wants? I can just feel that this is going to be hell when people figure out some weird exploits with her lol

21

u/_Valisk 1d ago

They're more than familiar with it after spending years dealing with Rubick and Morphling.

My boy Meepo is feeling left out. Like 90% of infinite money glitches involve Meepo. The other 10% involve lone druid.

u/Altruistic_Bass539 22h ago

The technology in this game seems absolutely insane to me, Doorman alone is a marvel. I feel like this is a very underrated aspect.

3

u/TarugongGentle 20h ago

An exploit would be discovered and abused by a European team on Deadlock's third annual big tournament on a do or die match against a Chinese team.

And Valve will allow it then patch it after.

Don't look at the comments of the reveal post about her on r/DeadlockTheGame .

People are being... passionate... about how they hate that Violet won 5th place. Genuinely accusing Valve of rigging the vote.

Tragic and shameful update: Violet players are getting actually harassed with misogyny and racism in matches featuring Violet....

27

u/ProfPeanut 1d ago

5th out of 6th isn't even a great placing, they're just mad she wasn't dead last as predicted

13

u/cardgamesareforplay 1d ago

As a Harrow voter.

It's been rigged from the start!

14

u/Fishfisherton 1d ago

They are grasping at every single angle to call the character "Boring and uninspired" it's actually insane; From their kit, model, backstory, voicelines, to the fucking voice actor themselves.

I just wanted to hop on to see some neat interactions with their physical block but it's nothing but complaining.

24

u/BentheBruiser 1d ago

I mean she's definitely a little white bread compared to the rest of the cast. She talks about art school and making her parents mad.

And we just got a giant rat who wants to take over Long Island

29

u/Vegetable-Error-2068 1d ago

Not everyone in Deadlock has to be a manic pixie sociopath demon god.

Paige is just a girl who likes books. Why is Violet so outrage-worthy?

4

u/salbris 15h ago

Paige has a simpler yet compelling backstory and reason to be at the ritual. She has a great voice actress and a quirky personality. Her interactions with Viktor and Mirage are quite memorable.

2

u/blitz_na 1d ago

if you were at all invested into the game you would be able to see the stark difference between being normal and being boring

solomon is one of the characters in the game with the least ambitions out of the crew. he doesn’t have any future aspirations beyond existing in central park enjoying chess and socializing. he is in the ritual because he actively detests the idea of both patrons getting their way

every opportunity of character growth gets actively shunned by violet herself to a point that the only thing you actually do know about her is she gets quirky weeded out and is extremely bisexual. her own characterization is actively being gutted as nearly every other character is more invested into their conversations with her than she is

5

u/War_Dyn27 5h ago

Weeded out

Out of 2046 voice lines, she mentions getting high (on an unnamed drug) ONCE.

10

u/beezy-slayer 21h ago

She never mentions weed, it's probably something harder given the era

Paige exists allready and is just "I read books and my books are magic also my brother might be doing weird shit but we won't talk about it"

Not everyone has to be a batshit insane rat with megalomania, in fact the game is better if they aren't.

young asian woman.... and she has problems with her parents!!!

This is like the only character modern asian americans writers have istg

3

I mean, hey. At least Mina has very... supportive parents. They literally paid so that she could become a vampire after her arranged marriage fell through.

I haven't seen people criticizing her kit, her kit seems good.

Her background and dialogue seem pretty boring though, compared to other new heroes.

I don't know why this comes as a surprise when every discussion about the game for the last year has been nothing but people praising the game for how inventive it is and how it has much more "sauce" than Overwatch or Rivals. The Deadlock community at large seems half convinced that they're playing Michelangelo's MOBA so of course it's going to be a shock when a character is more bland than usual.

I cannot wait for when cosmetics will release and it'll turn out that the most popular ones are by far those for the safe conventionally attractive heroes just like in any other game with cosmetics

Jesus, a lot of people are genuinely getting upset and hating on the character. Kind of a disappointing look for the community.

The deadlock community genuinely had me ashamed to be a part of it when the previous voting period was going on.

Just an insane amount of misogynistic rhetoric, not to mention the usual cavalcade of gooners bringing their stuff in, which the misogynistic fucks then use as justifications for their comments.

Don't get me started on the racist anecdotes lmfao. Even when she won, people still found a way to be racist about it. Attributing the wins to bloody asian players voting for her from the start. Mate, what do you think happened with Solomon then?? Just that many African people voting the fella in???

I couldn't stand even glancing at the sub lol. Every thread about the vote always had more than a dozen fuckers spouting that shit.

u/Finaldragoon 1d ago

The same thing happened with Celeste and a lot of transphobia showing up out of nowhere. Note that Celeste herself is not transgender, merely her appearance of wearing colors analogous with LGBTQ identity was enough to bring out the chuds.

Let me repeat that. A cis-gendered female character merely wearing light blue and pink brought forth a wave of transphobia in a community. Agent Orange ruined a generation of men.

3

u/Samanthacino 1d ago

Tbh Celeste also has a lot of other things that point to her intentionally leaning towards a trans identity. She’s shunned from society due to a biological quirk she has, so she focuses on found family and building a connection with those who empathize with her plight. And she happens to share a name with probably the most famous transgender video game

2

u/lessenizer 1d ago

man, I didn't vote for her cuz I thought she seemed uninteresting characterization-wise (and I still think that) but all those chumps are reaaaaaaaaaaaally missing out by not getting the fuck over it and enjoying her for her kit. Her kit is insanely fun (especially her 2, the sliding path, which you can freely steer and which keeps traveling literally forever as long as you don't hit anything). Just the sheer feel of her 2 might make her one of my mains. Well, it helps that she also seems like a sort of supportive utility brawler with decent late game scaling, and that's what I'm into (and drawing cover and penises with her right click is super fun).

This game looks cool as heck- but Ive just never really been able to get into dota style games and this looks like an action dota / lane thing? I see the Risk Of Rain devs are working on this games PVE mode? Now that im suuuuuuper curious about.

Id really like to play this. Seeing all the big updates / new things I keep thinking its out but its invite only still? It looks so cool honestly.

9

u/TylurrTheCat 1d ago

Getting an invite is as easy as asking for one. There is always a thread in the Steam community hub, or the subreddit r/Deadlockthegame, where they will invite you just for sending them a friend request.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/obeseninjao7 1d ago

I think pve is a rumour still? But there's definitely been some datamined visual novel story stuff

Invite is from anybody on your steam friends list with access, it's super easy to get in

6

u/moosebreathman 1d ago

PvE is real and more has been datamined with the last update. From what people can gather it’s basically Risk of Rain with items as pickups and a director than determines how things spawn and where, along with difficulty scaling.

6

u/PenguinBomb 1d ago

There's way too much shit going on in this game to follow anything happening unless you're a spectator.

1

u/Drew_Eckse 4h ago

I'm a player of the game and I can follow what's going on.

49

u/Openheart873 1d ago

I feel like every time I hear about this game it’s getting a new character.

I remember trying this game a few years ago and was overwhelmed with how many characters there were, I’m interested in going back but a bit scared

It’s has like 500 characters and it still technically hasn’t been officially announced by Valve. That’s crazy lol

106

u/ZGiSH 1d ago

Their major character updates drop 6 characters at a time

82

u/ten_year_rebound 1d ago

They drop like 6 new characters once a year over the span of a month. Seems like a lot in the past few weeks, of course. There’s over 40 characters but half are also unfinished either with animations or textures or abilities, because it’s “early access”. So there’s a lot of work to go.

51

u/_Valisk 1d ago

This is actually the second time this year. The Old Gods, New Blood update was in January.

23

u/LuchadorBane 1d ago

Looking at Solomon and his different chess board states based on ammo count, and then looking at Sinclairs torso moving independently from his lower half 😎😎😎

15

u/Poseidor 1d ago edited 1d ago

Huh? There's not that many characters.

Are you confusing this for dota?

6

u/aimy99 1d ago

There are over 40.

7

u/Poseidor 1d ago

And far less than 500.

6

u/Openheart873 1d ago

I was being hyperbolic

Still a hell of a lot of characters to choose from

15

u/dBLIZZARD903 1d ago

for a moba thats very few chars, in terms of information complexity the game is probably the easiest it will ever be to get into right now

3

u/mrturretman 19h ago

Idk it’s making me laugh that these were the words of conversation used for a grand total of like 46 characters

The fun part of these games is having multiple characters, as many as possible as long as they're kinda unique.

People here being "scared" to play the game is unreal, just go and play, its not that hard if you ask me.

19

u/snowolf_ 1d ago

And then you do a 5 minutes tutorial and get thrown into one of the most complex multiplayer games out there. I can understand why people are still scared, and I have seen plenty of players just quit because the game isn't (yet?) friendly to newcomers.

2

u/hlodowigchile 1d ago

I think people understimate themselves, its not that hard if you put some attention, theres really smart people out there.

5

u/NBNplz 23h ago

There's also some really dumb ones myself included.

2

u/hlodowigchile 6h ago

see? underestimating yourself.

2

u/kriskris71 7h ago

It’s really not that hard, people overthink the stats shown and would rather downvote then admit maybe they have a literacy problem and you probably don’t have to worry about half the data shown to you. It’s probably an American problem more than anything.

Coming from someone who played league for almost a decade it’s definitely pretty hard

4

u/Niceguydan8 11h ago

It's definitely hard but people really need to stop acting like they need to be playing like top 1% players mechanically to be "good" at the game.

Playing like that should be a goal of someone that loves the game and wants a VERY long term goal to aspire to.

Deadlock is a hard game to learn but it's not nearly as hard as a lot of people here make it out to be. It requires some patience, and an actual desire to learn and improve.

Yeah, at least just try bot matches or Street Brawl. The bots aren't gonna flame you for sucking, I promise.

1

u/Fob0bqAd34 21h ago

Sad times. They used to in ye olden times. No one puts effort into bots anymore.

2

u/xLisbethSalander 1d ago

Yeah I agree, the matchmaker can be kinda crap but you should get put with equally new/shit people for the most part

•

u/wordswillneverhurtme 3h ago

Its not easy. There are a bunch of items you have no time to read about and remember. There are a bunch of metas on the map that are basically hidden from you. There are systems like the urn and boss fights that I still don’t get even though I played like 20hr. And losing to something you don’t get feels like you’re not in control, and its miserable. Basically same issues I had with league.

•

u/hlodowigchile 3h ago

I never said it easy, i just saying people are repeting like parrots " is too hard, its too hard" without even trying, maybe people surprise themselves, but first they need to try.

•

u/Swineflew1 2h ago

People here being "scared" to play the game is unreal, just go and play, its not that hard if you ask me.

It's less about being scared and more about the time invested before you can enjoy it/not be shit.

It's the problem I have with siege, I just don't have the willpower to learn every maps layout and all the wallbangs and operators and bomb locations and yadda yadda. The game is fun, but I just don't have all that effort in me to learn so much just to be able to play at a base level.
