Would it be possible to implement a 'ping followers' option to the activity posts?

Basically as the title says, could it possible to implement an option to notify followers for the activity tab? The series we're working on takes a fair amount of time to complete each chapter so we've split them in halves, followers or shelved readers not getting updated when additions are added to already published chapters hurts engagement.

Think it would be a win - win, no? Allows indie developers to ensure they're growing audience is able to catch up and keep up to date, while giving users the ability to unfollow if they're not interested in the updates.
