Question/Help Finger padding question

I literally just picked up a guitar today. I am trying to learn to play an E major chord. My pointer finger is on the G first fret but the B string sounds "muffled". I try to change my finger position but I think my finger "padding" is not enough is there some way to get around this I tried cutting my nails short as possible. In the picture you should be able to see the difference between my middle finger and my pointer finger. The middle one has enough "padding" to be upright the pointer does not. (I did cut my nails as short as I could go without pain).

Is there something I can do for this?

Move your finger closer to the d string. Because you're fretting d and a on the second fret it doesn't matter you first finger touches one of those strings. While the b string has to ring open.

It's always finding a balance or compromise and muting or not muting, in time it will be an automatic thing

I tried pushing the finger closer to the d string. But then the pressure on the G string was "incorrect" the B string sounded fine but the G string sounded muted. Will continue to try and move around a bit.

Good luck. You will get it eventually.

Try filing the nails down, it still looks like they are too long to fret without buzzing
