MCC MP Scene?
Hello, I am wondering how lively the MP scene is for Halo MCC.
I picked up Infinite on PC a few years ago and have been enjoying it. I hadn’t really played Halo since 2009 on a friend’s xbox 360.
Infinite has been fun and I keep playing it, especially in the last six months. I’ve learned in the last few years all about 343 vs Bungie, and the gripes and critiques. And I think I get it. It doesn’t bother me so much cuz I never owned and xbox or 360; I never played the campaigns, just mp w friends and always loved it. A buddy in high school played Halo 2 MLG tourneys and was good. He would win/place.
Anyways. Halo Infinite’s release in 2021 I understand was really fumbled.. 6 figure player count mp scene at release and now hardly more than a cpl thousand.
Real sad.
Does MCC have a multiplayer scene at least as large as infinite? (Even if it’s just a cpl thousand concurrent ppl playing)

Theres a new mod for halo 3 on mcc, that allow custom servers with 128 player big team battles. Its got 1k active players and is really fun.
But its pretty unhinged so proceed with caution if offensive stuff bothers you.

It is cool but full of racist edgelords. There is literally a server call "whitesonly"

Yes actually, since I own an xbox I am able to see the most played games, so you can actually see infinite and mcc fight a lot for something like 10th place.

It has a lot of custom game browser servers every day, both with custom games and just usual pvp stuff. The main game is Reach, though there are some CE, Halo 2 and even ODST servers. But I also managed to find proper pvp matches in Social games, even Halo 2 servers. But mostly Halo 3 and Reach of course.

Getting into a match isn't the problem. The problem is their "skill-based matchmaking" which is set up to rage bait you rather than actually reward skill.

Infinite has more players than what Steam shows. I personally use the Windows Store version because Steam doesn't allow you to do things like add friends or message them as Steam doesn't allow Xbox HUD features to carry over for some reason. That and most people are still on Xbox anyways.

For what its worth, I picked up MCC yesterday on sale and played a couple hours of MP. Something about it just felt off, I ended up redownloading Infinite and ended up playing that the rest of the night. I give Infinite a lot of shit, but in its current state I think the MP gameplay and features surpasses what we have in MCC. Actually ended up having a lot of fun on Infinite last night.
Edit: my bad I forgot youre not supposed to say anything positive about 343 era games. What I meant to say was damnnnn Infinite is soooo bad dude, what a terrible game I had zero fun playing it last night.

You can compare the Steam numbers yourself on websites like SteamDB, but as someone who has always been an Xbox player, I've never had an issue getting into a multiplayer match playing in social (non-ranked) modes. What will be an issue, however, is if you're trying to find a multiplayer game that isn't Halo 3 or Halo: Reach. It's been a long time since I've played a multiplayer match using Halo 2 Anniversary or Halo 4; they just don't come up a whole lot. Now, there are ways where you can isolate or look for matches in certain games or playlists, but if you're looking for the fastest match times, you'll likely be in a H3 or H:R match.
