✨ New Cabinet Reveal ✨ A piece of life in my man cave - Ikea Fabrikor
So it's finally the time to share what I have built to add some life to my man cave! The greenhouse was placed here a couple of months ago, already went through some changes and adjustments inside and so far I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Shortly about my setup:
- Cabinet - Ikea Fabrikor
- Steel grid on the back, hanged on magnet hooks. Two shower stands in the corner.
- Light - 2x Barrina T5 long (59 cm), one mounted on the glass, one on magnets at 45 degrees angle.
- Floor - some wooden tiles from Lidl, cut to size and treated with oil.
- Conditions - 12 hours of light every day, fan running 24/7 (considering adding another one), humidity constantly around 80% with pretty much no sealing (only added a seal at the bottom, because of the crazy gap on this cabinet).
Plants:
- top row - Fittonia, Calathea makoyana, Anthurium, Sarracenia
- middle row - Anthurium, Gynura auranti (will be most likely removed), Alocasia amazonica, Monstera adansonii
- bottom row - Calathea, Philodendron gloriosum
As mentioned earlier, the greenhouse has been started a couple of months ago, so I'm still trying to figure out watering/ I already failed a couple of times, the plants got a bit dry, when I traveled during the heatwave this summer, some plants got brown spots.
Three most successful plants in my setup:
- Philodendron gloriosum - bought a cutting with just one small leaf, already got two nice leaves and the forth one is opening at the moment. It was sitting on one of the shelves, but because of the quick growth, I had to place it in the middle. Really happy about the growth!
- Alocasia amazonica - bought as a really small plant with just two leaves and it seems to be thriving.
- Monstera adansonii - again a cutting with just a node and a small leaf, took some time to grow the roots, but after potting it just exploded. I am actually a bit concerned about how long the stem got, before the leaves opened - might reach the lights soon. Also moved from the shelves.
Not so successful:
- Sarracenia - no clue why, but it keeps getting brown. New pitchers appear from time to time and whenever they grow bigger, they also partially die.
- Calathea (at the bottom) - it has been standing in the living room for a couple of months, but it was so damaged by the cat, I had to either throw it away or move it inside. It had a lot of leaves removed, now seems to be slowly recovering.
- Gynura aurantiaca - bought only because it was in a pack with two other plants, stays alive, but I have a feeling it ruins the overall look.
I kept waiting with getting the main plant that would fill in the middle space, but I am considering waiting how will the philodendron and monstera look like in a couple of weeks/months.
Do you guys have any recommendations how to handle watering? It is still a bit tricky for me, especially that the plants have very different requirements, but also the small size of some of the pots means they are much more sensitive. Do you use any sensors for the soil humidity?
If you have any questions about the setup, just ask! I will also be more than happy to take your suggestions and hints on what I can do better.
