I’m pretty sure we’re meant to relate her to Debbie as she kinda mirrors her: The scene (the first of season 3, which is crucial to setting up the themes) shows a mother concerned with her young son (the big orange giant) having to fight a force way beyond him for the greater good in the service of the GDA. One of Debbie’s arcs this season involves her wanting her sons to have a normal childhood but instead having to become comfortable with repeatedly sending them off to risk life and limb in battle.
Similar face shape but Oliver and Rudy have totally different eye shapes, and different noses. Even with the skin tone swap it's pretty clear who is who, they're similar but distinct:
I mean let’s be honest, those little details change in every shot, they have a general character design they follow, but those details they will not get 100% consistent
Sure, but the OP image is definitely implying they are more similar in design in these 2 frames than they are.
I imagine we could probably find frames where they are more similar and less similar than these 2. They do seem to pretty consistently give Rudy more of a straight line on the inner part of the eye and Oliver a more rounded inner eye, though:
They're similar, sure, but even with the skin tone swap it's clear they're different: totally different eye and nose shapes and Oliver's jaw is wider despite having a similar angle from the chin.
This is reminding me of the smash bros post where someone swapped Shulk and Marth’s faces and complained about how anime characters look too similar… only for people to defend Shulk with Marth’s face (and vice versa) because they didn’t know.
As half-Viltrumites age their Viltrumite DNA take over and replace the non-Viltrumite DNA until there's nothing left. Mark and Oliver are nearly 100% Viltrumite genetically.
Was that confirmed? If so, why do Viltrumites have a selective list of species they can't copulate with, if at the end the child would end up 100% Viltrumite genetically? I always thought Oliver would end up weaker and with a shorter lifespan, because Viltrumites consider Thraxans not suitable for reproduction
Yes, it was said in the Official Handbook of the Invincible Universe.
It may be that Viltrumite DNA is so aggressive and rigid to mutation and change that more powerful alien DNA would cause them to essentially kill each other and make any hybrid stillborn at best. Nolan says to Allen that previous attempts at interbreeding that used to be forbidden had mixed results. Thraxa was unknown to the Viltrumites before Nolan arrived as he was trying to use it as a way to lessen his punishment for his failure at conquering Earth.
According to the handbook Viltrumites and Humans have shared ancestry likely from an ancient Earth empire that was lost to time but not before seeding Viltrum with life. That plus Human DNA being very malleable makes them the prime targets for interbreeding with Viltrumites. It also helps that they look nearly identical from the outside and even inside.
Mark is specifically nearly 100%, because human genetics are “similar enough”
Oliver is not, he’s still straight up half bug. That’s why his aging is different even after he develops his powers and he keeps extra from his bug side
I mean... doesn't this prove that Oliver and Robot aren't the same? Oliver still looks like Oliver and Robot like Robot, even with the skin/hair colour swapped.
They might look similar. But they aren't identical.
I assume they're gonna give him a new original design in the next season, since he grows so fast. It would be so hilariously lazy if they made him a recolored adult Rex though lol

It's Indian Debbie all over again.
