Viltrum satan incarnate made no such claim

It was that plus the VA hating for me. Lee Pace is a top five actor for me, so I knew he'd cook (he already had me convinced after episodes 2 and 6) and it pissed me off to see people slandering him over one line.

u/RazzDaNinja Apr 17 '26
I love one dude’s post that theorized this move was a variation of the Viltrumite ability to use a form of minor gravity-manipulation for flight
And I fucken DIG IT 🔥

I thought so too, but in that case, I think the wind would rush to where his hand was originally, not on where his hand ended up

NGL slander-culture and "potential" meme have completely ruined whats left of people's media literacy. We are evaluating characters on a episode by episode basis. If they dont immiediately do something with "aura" within 20 minutes of appearing they are automatically "fraud" and "potential-man". No consideration for build-up or wider narrative.

u/Dante_n_Knuckles Tech Jacket Apr 17 '26
I'm kind of worried that we are going in a direction where authors and directors are skipping out more on building things up because it doesn't entertain the audience immediately. It was funny to see people clown on and then switch up on Thragg immediately after the ep came out, but come on, wait for him to actually do something before proclaiming fraud.
46
u/ForceSea5781 Apr 17 '26
It’s usually just what happens to shows that come out episode by episode, people hate it when it comes out but after the entire season/ is out people usually look back on it fondly.
Exactly what happened with fly in breaking bad
→ More replies (1)2
u/fuckyouguy_ Apr 23 '26
I mean I don’t think this is anything new. I remember watching the Fly episode from brba a couple years back. I was honestly surprised that a lot of people hated this episode because they considered it “filler”, and this was back in 2010.

u/HansDenuevo Apr 17 '26
Media literacy? Agenda transcends all, now bring on the nth meme of immortal besting thragg's ass
Jokes aside, most people surely knew he wasn't gonna stay a "fraud", it's just funny to make jokes about it
37
u/spacestonkz Apr 17 '26
Until episode 7, there was a full week solid of post after post after post about the design, with so many comments of people having tanties.
Maybe people making memes are laughing and joking, but there are peole who were genuinely crushed and far too infested in Thragg having a rounded jaw line.

Football is sadly like that too. A player's quality is based from their perfomance in a game, if they had a bad game they're the worst player ever and viceversa. Unrelated tho.

This is such a cold take. If the comic didn't exist then of course you would evaluate on a case by case basis. That's how TV works, you have a finite amount of information at a time.

He literally didn't fight anyone yet, what were people judging him on? 🙄
127
u/BakedWizerd Apr 17 '26
The fact that he wasn’t fighting anyone while also being strong enough to finish the fights with all of them.
“Dead viltrumites make me sad,” but he’ll watch Thaedus body and kill a few of them without stepping in.
He’ll watch Space Racer obliterate Viltrumites, TechJacket and Allen kill a couple, and he only steps in when he sees that they’re going to destroy the planet.
Big boy has a waiting problem.
136
u/Frenzied_Anarchist Apr 17 '26
Probably because weak Viltrumites aren't really Viltrumites to him.
He only cares about the strong Viltrumites. Nolan, who was the 3rd greatest in the Empire, Kregg, who is a master strategist and semi-comparable to Nolan, Anissa, who could also keep up with Nolan, Lucan, who showed perseverance despite being gravely injured a few times, and Mark, who managed to kill Conquest, the 2nd strongest Viltrumite.
Notice how he doesn't consider Oliver a true Viltrumite, not because of him being a halfbreed, but because of his weakness.
Thaedus was, of course, too far gone to be reasoned with, he had to perish for his crimes against the Viltrum Empire.
2
u/Old-Temporary8108 Apr 19 '26
This could be an interesting arc if they played into to the radicalised, eccentric and blinded he is when in comes to the viltrumite "strength over everything" philosophy. Otherwise I can't help but be perplexed that even with like 10 individuals remaining in your entire race who he claims to care about he's still this callous when it comes to viltrumite lives

u/Apprehensive-Pen7301 Apr 17 '26

He could've easily gone down and clapped cheeks when they attacked the coalition planet, the fact he didn't made people think he was all bark and no bite
7
u/Dapper-Tone-9580 Apr 17 '26
It was his voice and him freaking over his skull. Not to mention his forces got pushed back and he was there and did nothing. Now we know it was all to lure us into a false pretense.

9
u/sharksnrec Burger Mart Trash Bag Apr 17 '26
Sure, but why couldn’t he have just been cool from the beginning? Not everything is a switch up. He had a bad showing, then a good one. The good one doesn’t retroactively make the bad one cease to exist.
10
u/Reapish1909 Guardians of the Globe Apr 17 '26
I don’t take shit back, he’s still a bum. the guy is an absolute clown with decision making.
“let’s attack their main home” and he sits on his ass the whole time, loses more of his people. succeeds in killing none of the heavy hitters of the main cast. and only successfully pisses everyone else more by killing a ton of nameless innocents. cries over a skull and then decides to run away. Thragg and the gang really tried Aura farming as they were actively running away from a losing fight that he picked and did nothing in
this guy is a joke, I don’t care how strong he is, he’s an idiot🤣
11
u/NvmMeJustLurkin Apr 17 '26
its almost like characters don’t rationalize the way viewers do and have their own mindsets and motivations like how the viltrum empire isnt just him and if the viltrumites have to be carried by him then they arent worthy to him

u/RatBastard32 Apr 17 '26
Real af, I mean the dude literally spends most of his time brooding and talking to a crusty ass skull like a loser instead of, y'know, actually helping his people fight in the war they're losing??? And for the epitome of viltrumite culture and strength, he sure does whine a lot, huh?
12
u/robot-raccoon Apr 17 '26
you dont seem to get it then?? As a Viltrumite, Thragg shouldn't have to step in and help, they're alive because they are the strongest.
Is it dumb? looking from the outside in, sure- but as a culture it's what they're about.
1
u/RouShikari Apr 18 '26
Well he definitely is an idiot, but a deranged idiot and I think they showed it well, especially after we saw how he epurated the weak by letting all the viltrumites kill eachother. He doesn't care enough to help his people when he believes they are being weaklings, just like he didn't care about them slaughtering eachother in the past.
4
u/Drummk Green Ghost Apr 17 '26
Am I the only one who thought he still looked a bit comedic in the last episode? Especially when he was crying about his planet while the other Viltrumites awkwardly watched.
6
u/SeparatePotential478 Apr 17 '26
I disagree I thought it was cool how he’s so powerful but still can be emotional about certain things but to each its own.

u/real_roal Apr 17 '26
I still think he could have looked more in line with the comics. Its not like they wouldn't nail him being way stronger then everyone and very intimidating during their fights. I just think visually his face could be changed to be more like the comic but still in the shows artstyle that wouldn't require a bunch of extra animation. I don't know if you guys remember but someone posted one edit where they slightly tweaked his face by making his jaw a little bigger, stalled up the mustache, and moved the eyes and nose up a smidge to fit the bigger mustache.

It does make you wonder though why he didn't just annihilate teleskria, the coalition planet, especially with the other viltrumites there. I mean Nolan wiped out that one flaxan's in season one by himself all be it over the course of a few weeks
1
u/Easy_Action_1380 Apr 24 '26
The funniest part is that the Comic readers went through the exact same cycle when Thragg was first introduced. "this is the guy we've been living in fear of for the past 50 issues? he's a joke!"
"OH God! He just punched a hole through Omni-Man!"
