Announcement r/Kamloops rule update

Hey r/Kamloops,

The mod team is introducing a new rule effective immediately:

We will be removing Facebook reposts and posts that are primarily focused on creating or amplifying drama.

These types of posts don’t belong here. This subreddit is meant for discussion about Kamloops -local news, events, questions, recommendations, community updates, and genuine conversation. Low-effort Facebook screenshots, crossposts that just dump drama, and posts designed to stir conflict will be removed at the moderators’ discretion.

A few notes:

Sharing a local news article or official announcement is fine.

Thoughtful discussion of local issues is encouraged.

Simply copy-pasting Facebook posts or using the sub to host personal beefs is not.

We understand people want to talk about what’s happening in town, but the constant cycle of Facebook drama dumps has been lowering the quality of the sub. We’re tightening this up to keep things more useful and less toxic.

Thanks for understanding. As always, if you have questions or concerns, feel free to modmail us.

The r/Kamloops Mod Team

Discussion Shout out to a hero

I just want to give a shout out to the guy with bright lights who drove ahead of the lunatic on the freeway from Kamloops flashing his lights and warning people of the driver going down the highway on the wrong side of the road. You were the only one doing it and you saved my life and countless others. If you hadn't warned me I would have been hit head on. I don't know if you will see this but your efforts are greatly appreciated, thank you for doing what you could to try and prevent the accident that occurred.

Politics Fair wages on municipal projects, Canadian Home Builders Association Municipal Candidate Forum.

Hey folks,

Castanet wrote an article about the CHBA forum that happened on Wednesday night. I was asked a great question, below is the link to the article and the excerpt containing my answer.

This is something I feel strongly about.

I have also added the links to Instagram videos expanding on my answer

https://www.castanetkamloops.net/news/Kamloops/634451/Kamloops-candidates-quizzed-on-housing-neighbourhood-opposition-at-forum

"Brian Andrews was asked to explain his previous assertion that paying higher union wages would not increase the overall cost of a construction project.

Andrews argued that workers paid a good living wage are more likely to stay on the job and take pride in their work, while those earning lower wages are more likely to leave for better-paying opportunities."

Don't forget to vote tomorrow.

Brian Andrews.

Question Sahali Mall Ebus transfer - fast food places nearby?

I have a family member who is transferring at the bus depot (office?) at Sahali Mall - they’ve got a 90-minute layover. I checked the list of stores in the mall, and there doesn’t seem to be much in the mall itself. Are there any fast food places within a 10-15 minute walking distance, i.e. Wendy’s, Subway, McDonald’s? Also, what’s the mall like - is it generally considered pretty safe to hang around for 90 minutes? I really miss the old direct bus service to Vancouver - no transfers!

Question Looking to Play Warhammer 40k 11th Edition

I'm an Imperial Knights player looking for other Warhammer 40k players in the area. I can't seem to find much of anything active anywhere, so I'm throwing this out there.

I haven't played much, and haven't played 11th edition yet, so I'm trying to play some games against rival armies.

Question Ice Fishing Beta

Hello Kamloopsians!

I’m about to spend my first winter in Kamloops, so I am looking for beta on ice fishing locations within an hours (or so) drive. I rarely fish any other species but rainbow trout. How are the Jacko, Lac Le Jeune, Edith’s during the winter months?

Thanks!

Politics SAVE KAMLOOPS SATURDAY 🗳️ ✅

I love this city and honestly get very emotional seeing what has happened the last 4 years. We need to make our city for what it is. A place where everyone is included, great events, and the Tournament Capital of Canada.

I genuinely was so happy to wait 1.5 hours to vote yesterday. This means people care!

Thank you to all the candidates and cant wait for Saturday

I am comfortable sharing my votes:

Mayor: Mike O’Reily
Council: Katie & Steve
School Trustee: Kang, Karpuk, Hickson

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts!!!

News Free TRUSU Event - Kelly Bron Johnson Talk

Conversations about neurodiversity are becoming more common, but knowing what language to use, how to ask questions, and how to engage respectfully can still feel challenging.

Join us for this year’s TRUSU Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lecture featuring Kelly Bron Johnson, an Autistic and Hard of Hearing self-advocate who brings together professional expertise and lived experience to explore neurodiversity in today’s society.

Through personal stories, research, and practical examples, Kelly will explore what neurodiversity is, challenge common misconceptions, and examine the barriers neurodivergent people continue to encounter in schools, workplaces, and everyday life.

Whether you’re a student, professional, leader, or community member, this lecture will offer new perspectives on neurodiversity and practical ways to help create more inclusive and accommodating communities.

EVENT DETAILS

📅 Thursday, October 29, 2026

📍 TRU Clock Tower Theatre (CT T200)

🕠 Doors open at 5:30 p.m. | Lecture begins at 6:00 p.m.

FREE ADMISSION — OPEN TO EVERYONE

Attend in person or online! We encourage you to join us in person for the best experience, but virtual attendance is available for those who cannot make it to campus.

In-person seating is limited to the first 200 people who register, so be sure to reserve your spot early. When registering, select the appropriate ticket type for in-person or online attendance.

ABOUT THE EDI LECTURE SERIES

Each year, the TRUSU Equity Committee hosts the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lecture Series, bringing our campus and broader community together to explore important topics related to social justice, human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

By bringing speakers to campus free of charge, the series creates opportunities to learn, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversations that help build a community grounded in understanding and respect.

Join us for an engaging evening of learning and conversation as we explore how a better understanding of neurodiversity can help us build a more inclusive community.
