Rant Surrendered to the Cougar Life

• Upvotes

I'm the kind of human that accepted that I'll probably not have that coveted and heavily campaigned for dream life of two kids, one male, one female, a nice, tall, working, loving husband, a house in the suburbs, school runs and the whole shebang.

Instead, my life has been unfolding in ways that amaze me (I left it to the universe).

I tried the marriage thing but damn... Young love only works in American 90's movies, not here.

The good thing is, I got out with one of the two kids in my quest to build the dream life ( the way I know myself now, I would not have any) . Fast forward few years and I've so far managed the house, the car, the school runs are over since most high schools are boardings 😢 ... But anyway, you see my jiko has only two stones in the eyes of society.

Let's move to the third stone. The man. First off, all the guys my age, are married, or getting divorced so still bitter about life. I do not find them interesting. Plus I don't think I want 'marriage' the way it is portrayed, probably only the companionship.

Any guy I find exciting is almost always 10 years younger than me. Free-spirited, spends most times talking about things I have no idea about, one can literally see the passion they have for life, the fire in their eyes that seems to say, "The world has no idea what I'm about to unleash".

And another thing, even when I'm doing random life stuff like volunteering in a different part of the country, I will meet someone who is there on a completely unrelated life thing and they will be living a max of 30 minutes away from where I live in Nairobi, and yes, younger (think of a tiny town in the middle of a random county). Of course we have to exchange contacts neighbor, and meet soon after we are both back.

These guys are spontaneous, crazy, dumb in a cute way (like I will not talk about philosophy too deeply before them saying, "let's toast to that!")

They can cuddle, kiss, be free completely with you and still do their own thing knowing you understand what they are fighting for, to be successful. They have all the parts of a good man, minus the traumatic life experiences that turned them stoic/nonchalant or all other ways to say I'm dead inside.

They give me something I am yet to understand.

I, a woman in my early 30s, leaving my identity behind, taking a cab and going to some random apartment to play house with someone who's mother will not approve. I am sure that should I ever do that proverbial dream life, it will be highly controversial because I'm almost certain that it will be with someone 10 years younger.

Anyway, anyone know where I'll get that PEP thing and what's the timeline to use it?

I was looking for which kind of cats are good for Kenya's climate and this popped up. I have never heard of this kind of breed till today. So to celebrate my discovery, I want to share with you guys The Sokoke Cat. A lean, medium sized, ticked modified classic tabby cat. It is found as a naturally occurring native breed in the greater Arabuko-Sokoke Forest.

Now you know what to get when looking for a cat.

Genuinely asking, why? Kwanza you find so many people in the comments are asking for the price, alafu wamejibiwa individually wakiambiwa ‘DM’ or ‘we have messaged you the price’. Smh just fucking put your price on the item. the ones who can afford it will buy. Personally if I see a DM for price anything, I just will not buy.

Kuna mtoto anakuja December na hana jina. The parents don't know the gender yet so wanatafuta ideas za both boy and girl names.

They prefer non-english names and not the ones overused like "Jabali" or whatever the folks from the suburbs call their children (akina ayden, Kayden Jayden)

All ideas (even wild ones) are welcome. 👊🏾😁

I was searching something on my gallery and this picture popped up
I can’t believe that there was once a period i had 6m on my account, at the time i never thought i’d be using fuliza 2 years later😂

i partied hard, what did you expect from an 18yo?😂 i don’t think there’s a club i haven’t been in in Nairobi. It was a good 2 years, funny enough i regret nothing.

I didn’t invest shit, i always told myselft that money will come back, i remember being on my last 1m and i was so scared of going broke😂(the time i took the pic of my acc) its funny that hio pesa nilitumia all the way to 2026😂 unlike the other 5m.

Thank God the money didn’t change me, i used to hang out with the same friends who i still hang out with till now, and thank God i didn’t quit school, i used to attend lectures but kwa akili i used to think that i can pay the lecturer to stop teaching😂

I turned 21 2 months ago , my life is pretty smooth but not as extravagant as i used to be, I’m content, i can still afford my rent, fuel, daily needs and go out once ever so often. Mungu anitest na the same amount nimwonyeshe nimegrow up😮‍💨

Ask r/Kenya I have no friends to make plans with, and I'm tired of trying.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on Reddit. I don’t know if you also have that period where you still have the app on your phone but somehow never open the app. 😂

Anyway, I’m back because I need to get something off my chest and hear from people who might relate.

I’ve been struggling with making and maintaining friendships for as long as I can remember. The only time I can genuinely remember having friends was in high school, where you’re around the same people every day, so friendships happen more naturally. As an adult, I’ve tried reaching out, initiating conversations, making plans and putting in effort, but so many connections eventually fade. People seem to like me, and I can have good conversations with people, but getting to the point where we’re actually friends who consistently make an effort to see each other is where I struggle. I think I should mention I’m in my early 20’s and I didn’t go to uni or higher education (for context) for one or another reason

Right now, most of my social life revolves around church. I love my church community, and I love that I get to connect with people over our faith. But I also want a life outside of that. I want to explore Nairobi, try new things, attend events, meet people and just have fun.

This Friday, I attended an event where I met a guy. The event was nice, and afterwards, he went out partying with his friends and ended up hopping between about three clubs. I thought he might invite me, but he didn’t. To be clear, I didn’t take it personally because we had literally just met, and I don’t expect someone I’ve just met to invite me everywhere they go. I’m also a Christian, and I’m at a point in my life where clubbing and that lifestyle aren’t really what I want for myself anymore.

But the experience left me thinking about something else. I realised that I want to have people in my life whom I can make plans with after an event. People who might call me and say, “Hey, what are you doing tonight? Let’s go here,” or people I can call and make spontaneous plans with. I want to have options. I want to be able to enjoy my weekends with friends, have experiences and make memories with people I genuinely connect with.
And I think that’s what made the whole thing hit differently. It wasn’t necessarily about wanting to go clubbing with him. It was seeing someone who had people to continue his night with and realising that I don’t really have that for myself right now.

I’m trying to figure out what having a social life looks like for me now, especially as a Christian. I know there are so many things to do besides clubbing, but even when I think of activities I’d enjoy, I realise I don’t really have friends to do them with. And I’m tired of constantly trying to build friendships that never seem to develop into something lasting.

Has anyone else experienced this? Where you don’t necessarily miss your old lifestyle, but you miss having a social life? Where you want friends to do things with, people who think of you when making plans, and connections that feel mutual rather than something you’re constantly trying to maintain?

I’d really love to hear how you navigated this, especially if you’ve struggled with making close friendships as an adult. How did things change for you?

Religion THE BIBLE HAD ME LIVING IN FEAR

My fear started when i was in primary school. I used to think alot about the prophecies in the bible and how the world was supposedly going to end. I was just a kid with dreams of becoming successful when i grew up. I wanted to have my own house, a car, money, and the freedom to enjoy life like i saw successful adults doing. But the thought that the world could end before i got to experience any of that terrified me. i kept asking myself "What if the world ends before i get the chance to live the life i dream of?"

At some point i even started feeling like going to school was pointless because, in my mind, the world was going to end soon anyway. Why work hard for a future that might never come? The reason i believed it so strongly was that i knew about several bible prophecies that I thought had already come true. This made me believe the bible was 100% true, so i took everything it said about the future seriously. One question i started asking myself was this, christianity has its own version of how the world will end, but there are so many religions around the world, and they have different beliefs about the end of the world too,so which version is actually going to happen? They can't all be right about the same judgment day, can they???

Then around 2020 when i was in high school, COVID happened. I remember thinking, "here we go, his must be the beginning of the end of the world.". The fear was so strong that i even considered not going to campus to pursue my dream course. I kept thinking that i might spend years studying only for the world to end before i graduated and got to enjoy the life i had been working toward, things slowly started changing when i went to campus and spent more time away from my parents and family. I started experiencing life for myself, going to parties, drinking, smoking, and doing some of the things other students did for fun. As time went on, the thoughts about the world ending became weaker. I stopped worrying about it as much and started focusing more on living my life.

After graduating, i finally had more time alone with my own thoughts. For the first time i started seriously questioning some of the things i had believed since childhood. I began wondering whether there was actually a God in the sky constantly watching everything we do. Some people call this an awakening. For me it felt like finally breaking free from years of fear. I felt relieved because i no longer had to live every day worrying that the world might end before i got the chance to experience life. Letting go of that fear felt incredibly good, and i no longer felt guilty for questioning what i had been taught.

I started realizing that many of us grow up accepting the beliefs, traditions and practices of our families and communities without really questioning them. When you're young, those beliefs can become such a big part of your life that you don't even consider the possibility that things might be different. I'm not saying everyone should stop believing in God. I just think it's important to give yourself the freedom to think, ask questions, and explore different perspectives instead of being afraid to question something simply because society tells you not to. Personally, i don't call myself an atheist, but God is a subject i've started looking at very differently after doing my own research. It's a much deeper and more complicated topic than i once thought, and i don't pretend to have all the answers. One thing i've learned is that questioning your beliefs doesn't have to mean you're a bad person. You shouldn't have to live in constant fear just because you're afraid to ask questions about what you've been taught.

When i hear someone say they believe in God, pray, and follow their religion, i don't judge them. in a way i see a bit of my younger self in them. I remember how strongly i believed what i was taught and how difficult it was to imagine another perspective. I don't go around trying to convince people that God isn't real, because i know everyone has their own journey. People arrive at different conclusions at different stages of their lives and that's okay. For me the most important thing has been learning to think for myself and allowing myself to live without that constant fear of the world ending or going to hell

Discussion Kenyan Business Practices

I'm not sure how true this story is, but regardless, it points to a wider problem; bad business practices in this country. People aren't honest anymore. You are not sure of quality or anything else beyond it. If you want to buy anything these days, I think it's best to go to a genuine or certified organisation or in this case, import a car yourself rather than rely on some of these dealerships. Also, I'd heavily advise always going with a mech to check on inspect any car before you purchase it. It will save you a lot of money.

Culture Kenyan Men: Her husband cheated, got a baby and the baby died. Side chick wants another child.

For context, I am a Kenyan lady. Writing this as a third person watching from outside.
I am left with no words. My very close friend has been married since 2023 to a Kenyan man.
He calls her sweetie and all those crazy names. They have two children and the last child is the same age as the child of the other woman.
So I just found out that her husband had a child one year ago outside of wedlock.
She had never informed me because I believe she was in shame.
I found out when the side chicks baby died two months ago as she informed me.
The husband is 40 and she is 27. The side chicks is 30.
The husband was seeing the side chick and still spending time with her even before the baby died while remaining married.

Side chick told her husband she wants another child because the one they had died. The husband asked the wife like he's asking for permission to give the side chick another child.
I am very confused about this type of marriage and dating setup.

Kenyan men, how do you explain this ?
Kenyan women, why would anyone in her most sober mind go break a home and second, why would a wife who knows her husband cheated continue staying and calling the man her sweet husband? She has a problem with this arrangement but I can't understand why she's staying.
Both women receive an allowance from the man. He has another baby mama who is the one who gave him his first child.
For those wondering, I am happily married to a Swiss man and we do not have such a dilemma.
