QUESTION Anyone go from steam deck to legion?
What is your impression or experience with it? Is the bigger screen noticeable?
I have a steam deck and love to mostly stream, steam native stream, sunshine, chiaki NG; but I want a bigger screen. SD is a little too cramped

I have an oled and bought a LeGo S, I still use my steam deck when my LeGo S is charging. Some games work on the steam deck, some games run better on the LeGo S. (Z1E), I love both.

Same here. Bought the Legion Go S Steam OS as a back up. Love it. Both have their unique advantages and disadvantages. I like the Deck for traveling when I don’t know if I’ll have an outlet for a while. Legion for when I can play it plugged in.

I went from a Oled Deck to LeGo 2 (non-extreme 32gb), I miss the trackpads.

u/Healthy-Painter8742 Jul 19 '26
Yeah I got the LG2 non extreme version and stuck steamOS on it and the screen is a massive upgrade.

I went from an LCD steam deck to the LeGo S and couldn't be happier, I'm a weirdo and like using the windows version so I can use game pass to it's full ability. The only issue I have with the S is battery life but I usually just play at home or have a battery bank to use to help.

u/LittleBastard62 Jul 20 '26
Same situation for me. I have a steamdeck LCD and OLED and just wanted the larger screen on the Lego S. Got a power bank because battery life is not good. Also got a good deal on a Lego 2 (both Legos have extreme version processors). Performance is definitely better but continually find myself just grabbing the SD OLED

u/theCalvoKahn Jul 19 '26
From LCD SD to Z1E Go S. It's a better fit in the hands, better screen, better performance (more RAM). I don't miss my steam deck

u/nariz_choken Jul 19 '26
I did, from deck to legion go 1, installed steam os, then a deal came for a almost half price legion go 2, so I also got that and installed steam os, ended up trading my rog ally x for a legion go s z1e just to have a windows device... So far that is my only windows handheld because emulators are easier to work with in windows, as I had massive problems with emudeck
I tend to keep handhelds for certain things, for example my legion go 1 is basically my 2d metroidvania machine, my legion go s is for retro emulation, including ps3 and PS4 now and the go 2 sits connected to the tv most of the time and I play slightly more demanding stuff with it
There is also a legion y700 gen 5 that's basically me and the wife playing gacha games and Roblox with our kids and nephews and nieces 😂
We still own a ps vita, and a 3ds xl, ps5 pro might be sold to make room for a steam machine though, Sony has rubbed me the wrong way, as I am losing terminator 2 judgement day after I bought it... 😡
In conclusion I don't miss the steam deck but love steam os, it's the best handheld os there is IMO

u/demonkid21490 Jul 19 '26
It is basically everything you want and a handheld PC, And if you really want steam you can load that on there too

Upgraded steam deck OLED to Legion go 2. It took some time to get used to the weight an ergonomics - the steam deck was much better in that aspect. I hated windows, but once I threw steam OS on I loved it. What I was running at 800p before I'm now running at 1200p with higher settings and higher frame rates. The screen is fantastic.

Steam deck to Rog Ally X to Legion Go S (Z1E/SteamOS)
Couldn't be happier with the LeGo S. Great ergonomics, big screen, and SteamOS. I just consider it my "Steam Deck 2"
The trackpad is absolute ass tho

u/MidsEnjoyer Jul 23 '26
I wish Lenovo would replace it with the Thinkpad nipple or just remove it completely

I went from steam lcd to the Go S Z1E 32gb. The difference is pretty great. I dont have to worry so much if a game will run badly or compromise settings and toning down the visuals so much just to hit 60 fps.
The screen being bigger is a great improvement, its in a sweet spot between bigger than the deck and not a huge as the og Legion or the 2. VRR is great and was missing in the steam deck when I needed it. The screen being 120hz may seen too much or not achievable natively if ur playing heavier games but using frame gen or lossless scaling closes the gap if I want to. Oled is apparently very important to the community but I never i cared for it because the smoothness of gameplay matters most than graphics, but at least u can use something like vibrant deck.
The xbox control layout is much better than the deck imo, the joy sticks are hall effect, less stiff to use and aren't in the way of the buttons. The track pads i miss for browsing desktop mode than for gaming but since the joysticks are are pretty good, it isnt much of a setback. The only trackpad is small and is useful on certain occasions only imo.

I did. upgraded from the steam deck oled to the legion go 2 z2e. it can be a bit finicky sometimes - like having to open up legion space before the controllers will fully work (idk why) but once you get game mode and Xbox full screen experience set up it’s great. stunning screen that puts the oled to shame, and the steam deck oled has a great screen. About twice as much performance as the steam deck in most games I’ve played, but that depends on your settings and your preferred resolution. I still use my steam deck all the time, when I go somewhere the steam deck is what I bring with me due to its smaller size and the convenience of the dbrand cases travel lid. but when I’m at home relaxing I like to use my legion go 2 with the mechanism gaming pillow — it’s heaven. the legion go 2 really excels at plugged in gaming.

u/Spamcan81 Jul 19 '26
The larger screen is definitely noticeable, the controls are also worse but still better than some other options.
1
u/DaBigJMoney Jul 20 '26
I did. The Legion Go Z1e is a better overall experience. I’m glad I upgraded. But the ergonomics of the Steam Deck and OLED screen are better.
1
u/amin915 Jul 20 '26
I have an lcd steamdeck and will be purchasing a legion go soon. I’m paying it off. If anything in looking forward to trying all the games that are not compatible with the deck. Paying off the legion go at my local pawn shop

u/Cybertron77 Jul 20 '26
SD LCD to Legion Go 1st gen. I liked the polish experience of the steam deck but windows doesnt bother me at all to use. I prefer the flexibility of windows but both are good options
1
u/Acousmetre78 Jul 20 '26
I did. I installed Steam os and the experience is like having a Steam deck with a larger higher resolution screen that can run newer games.
The only drawback I’ve had is that some games crash more but from what I understand it’s the newer higher demanding AAA games that do it. I usually need to change a setting such as available vram.
The difference in screen size and resolution is huge. I tried to go back to the deck and it felt small and blurry.

Upgraded to the legion go 2 and changed it over to steam os. It is very nice and the screen is great. It is nice to have the bigger screen, more powerful cpu, more ram and detachable controllers. If you have the money to burn it is a nice upgrade. However it is a lot heavier so keep that in mind

u/ceeemlol Jul 20 '26
Went from steamdeck lcd to lego go 1 z1e. Great upgrade path i could play games properly with better fps and performance. The bigger screen is better too. Cons though is the battery is worse and its a heavier device. I put bazzite on the lego as soon as i got it so it performs similarly to a steamdeck. If the games you are playing arent running well on the deck, i suggest going for the lego 1 z1e its a not very expensive upgrade and youll be able to play a lot more games smoothly. You will definitely miss the ergonomics of the steamdeck and its lightness but performance is a lot better. Was playing dota2 and ffxiv on the deck and they were both choppy with input lag which all went away on the lego.

u/PhattyR6 Jul 20 '26
Yep.
Specifically, I went 64GB LCD > 512GB OLED > Go 1 > Go 2
The screen is a huge upgrade, even on the Go 1. It was a very good IPS panel. I personally prefer the larger size.
For me personally, with my home network set up. The WiFi stability on the Go 1 & 2 is significantly more stable.
Battery life was awful on the Go 1 though. It’s pretty good on the Go 2. Larger capacity and handles lower TDPs much better.

I went from SD LCD to LGO1 Z1E and now on LGO2 Z2E. Yes, 100% big difference noticeable even form SD to LGO1. However there's a caveat. Windows is a piece of a$$ so I moved to Bazzite and currently running SteamOS. With both of those working really really well, a LGO is light years ahead of the SD. I also have another mate in NZ who went from SD OLED to LGO Z2E and he wont look back. Again, he moved immedaitely to SteamOS.
The screen is georgeous, the extra power is well used when you need it. It does chew the battery is you use higher TDP regularly, but that's a choice. I pump the TDP when plugged in and drop it lower when on the road. All good.

Went from the basic steam deck to the 1tb legion go. Huge difference in power and screen resolution. I usually play everything on medium high settings at 1200p with the exception of Warframe, I play that sucker at max settings. Also a neat thing is no problems with games that require anti cheat software like battleeye

I recently switched from SD to LG1 and am a fan, love that the controllers disconnect

u/Method__Man Jul 20 '26
Do you want significantly better performance, a massively better screen, and the ability to talk about better peripherals and even an EGPU? If that sounds appealing to you then there's your answer.

u/Various-Tower1603 Jul 20 '26
Steam deck oled to Legion go 2. Screen size is amazing. Performance is great compared to SD. Ignoring price, its my steam deck 2.
1
u/jipiboily Jul 20 '26
I did that 2 years ago…and never regretted it! I always ran Linux (Bazzite for about a year, and Steam OS for over a year now). Great device! Definitely more hefty…you’ll feel it for sure, but for me it was worth it and sold my Steam Deck to a friend.
Legion Go 2 looks even better, though. Especially the screen, and a 15-25% performance bump with more RAM, too. Currently tempted to upgrade, but those damn prices haha…

u/Unleash_Havok Jul 20 '26
Steam deck OLED to Legion Go 2. As I’m getting older, a much bigger screen is definitely preferred.
1
u/johndarko5 Jul 20 '26
I had an SD OLED but didn’t really enjoy the position of the sticks due to the (for some) holy track pads. Which made me use the deck only with a controller, but the screen was too small for it. Now I have a Legion Go S with Z1E (SteamOS) and I’m very happy with it, tho it certainly has its own quirks.
1
u/hongkien66 Jul 20 '26
I just upgraded from the Steam Deck OLED, even thought both screens are OLED I feel like the one on Legion Go 2 has higher contrast. The performance is much better, is only bad thing is that LeGo2 is noticeably heavier and bigger.
1
u/VintageOJ Jul 20 '26
I went from OLED to Legion Go 2 Z2 Extreme and put Steam OS on it last month.
For me it’s a huge upgrade in every way. With the chip, VRR plus lossless scaling, games look and run incredible.
I can run most recently released (1-5 years) games high to very high/ultra at 1200p at 25-35w with this set up and I’m thrilled.
Then the screen, it’s by far the best I’ve ever used in a handheld bar none. The higher resolution, larger display and overall I feel slight better out of box calibration makes it night and day to the steam deck OLED.
There are a few software issues/bugs here and there that affect it but I’m definitely willing to live with them until they are resolved.
1
u/Bulletsoul78 Jul 20 '26
I have both - and I honestly use my Steamdeck more, although my Legion Go handles the more recent AAA titles more confidently.
1
u/Zonikz Jul 20 '26
Steam Deck LCD > Legion Go [OG] > Legion Go 2
Huge jump both times in terms of power and especially screen size. It's also noticeably bigger, chonkier and less portable
Not sure if you're coming from the Steam Deck OLED, I can't comment on the difference there.

Went from SD to Legion go z1e.
Performance uplift is quite substantial. All of a sudden you don't have to play at low settings 30 fps anymore. Screen estate is bigger which is good for games with text.
However there is a critical flaw: the heat. Stock SSD can jump to 110 degrees and system shuts down. You need to do some modding (remove aluminum foil , thermal pad over the ssd > thermal sink > thermal pad making contact with the backplate).
I was able to bring temps down to 80 with that.
Added a magnetic fan on the back vent to bring temps further down to 65-70

SD OLED to Go 2. Maybe minority here. The VRR 1200p panel is amazing. The size is atrocious for me though and the ergonomics are complete ass. The shoulder buttons feel worse than the SD, the face buttons dont feel so much as smooth as the SD but rather feel clickier, not a fan tbh. I hate how the right joystick is positioned, its so hard to hit it with my index finger when my right thumb is preoccupied with Y+B actions (Monster Hunter especially)
I just wish they made a Steam Deck-sized Go 2 with the same screen and specs

u/Puzzleheaded_Fill629 Jul 20 '26
Went from lcd to oled to legion go to legion go s. I don't miss my steam decks at all and have both legion gos at the moment

u/OutlandishnessWest74 Jul 20 '26
I did often regret it to be honest I jumped to legion go first gen when it was released now know how bad it can be
1
u/JustinCase101010 Jul 20 '26
I went from Steam Deck to Rog Ally Z1 Extreme to Legion Go Z1 extreme, I plan on staying with the LeGo for a long time. the switch from steam deck to legion go was massive tbh the only thing I miss was how light the deck was and how steamos felt. I plan on installing bazzite soon. The legion screen is genuinely amazing, If you plan to stream on it you can stream on 1600p 144hz.
1
u/MVF3 Jul 20 '26
I did, install steam os. It's brilliant. The legion is by orders of magnitude more powerful.
1
u/coldblooded79 Jul 20 '26
Went from the OG 256 LCD deck to the Legion Go S Z1E steam edition, and I couldn't be happier.
1
u/Kreason95 Jul 20 '26
I didn't go from one or the other but between my wife and I we've had both. The difference in size cannot be understated. The legion is massive and even borderline uncomfortable. If you can manage to hold one in person before buying one, I'd definitely advise it.
It's a great handheld, just massive

u/RadRacer513 Jul 20 '26
Had an LCD Steamdeck, but I was always trying to tweak it to get unsupported games running. Grabbed an OG LeGo and haven't looked back; huge improvement in screen size and quality, runs pretty much everything I want it to, doesn't require me to tweak it every other day. I pick it up, turn it on, and play. If I'm wanting to play with friends, I can load up the anti-cheat games just fine and can get on discord with them without issue. Love my LeGo and have never looked back at the steamdeck.
1
u/A-to-fucking-Z Jul 21 '26
Screen is a HUGE upgrade. Went from LCD SD -> LG1 -> LG2. Never looked back. SteamOS would have been perfect for me if not for the sleep/wake issue and brightness issue (fixed via script)
1
u/NewspaperOriginal518 Jul 21 '26
That was my exact situation and I have no regrets. The screen ( specially on the Legion Go 2 ) is very nice. Get ready for a lot more handheld weight, though.
1
u/Resident-Pen9894 Jul 21 '26
I have the the SD and LeGo1. The lenovo is used for pure power wirh AAA games but it is lass comfortable. The SD is weaker but an Overall better handheld in my opinion.
1
u/nilart Jul 21 '26
Speaking about first LeGo. I went from the SD. It's better at plug and play, less tinkering, better battery from compatible games. LeGo allows for far more gaming options (including mouse games) and more power / tinkering, but battery is worse.
Also comfort wise the SD is heavy and playing handheld is exhausting. The LeGo was nicer to play with detached controllers.
My 2 cents

I did a LONG time ago with original Lengo. Now I'm using the LenGo 2 z2 extreme. Huge difference and I can play Steam games, Xbox, or Blizzard.

u/OF_EdgeToy Jul 19 '26
I did. I hate Linux. The reason I sold it was because it would only connect to the TV 1 out every 10 times.
Legion is heavy as hell but windows is easy.

u/Loud_Examination_138 Jul 20 '26
Went from Deck to Legion go S z1e because of screen size, ergonomics and the extra power...it's been really nice so far.
Bought a bunch of games on sale from Steam and Loaded...some were games I've owned on ps4/ps5 as I wanted higher fps

I upgraded from an LCD Steam deck to the Legion go 2. It’s a massive difference, especially the screen and the processing power. Night and day difference for sure.
