u/Grabate Aug 19 '26
John Oliver did a bit for Sesame St with Cookie Monster a while back. I remember him saying they are so good you forget there’s a puppeteer.
141
u/redsyrinx2112 Aug 19 '26
For anyone who hasn't seen the outtakes of John Oliver and Cookie Monster you're in for a treat.
32
u/Finer_Sings_In_Life Aug 19 '26
That was delightful 🤩🤣 Aww and Kate McKinnon, too?! 🫶 Thank you for sharing!
12
u/redsyrinx2112 Aug 19 '26
Honestly, I somehow forgot she was in that, so it was still a pleasant surprise for me too!

Not only that, Cookie Monster is typically a two-puppeteer puppet. This will be the case whenever you see both of his arms moving while he talks. Unless the puppeteer has 3 arms.
So you'll have TWO people next to you that you forget are doing it.

u/Putrid-Builder-3333 Aug 19 '26
Then Jordan Schlansky shows up to talk about the inaccuracy of that particular theme song and send Harrison Ford back into Grumpville
(I hope someone understands this reference lmao)

u/BeRad419 Aug 19 '26
Let me just see this Lego millennium falcon for a second
30
u/Putrid-Builder-3333 Aug 19 '26
Lmao I just psoted the other but
(((Crash))) lmao omg that one was horrifying wstch no matter set up or whatever 😅
Jordan was a treasure on that show
55
u/nerdtypething Aug 19 '26
“the actual name is the raider’s march, not the indiana jones theme. as a true march one expects a fast syncopated rhythm of at least two hundred twenty to two hundred forty beats per minute. and it was actually two hundred forty beats per minute that john williams originally composed it. cookie monster is clearly well below two hundred forty beats per minute and truly does a disservice to john williams.”
42
u/Mr_Greystone Aug 19 '26
I understood that reference.

Ford loves Indiana Jones. It’s his Star Wars
99
u/runnyyyy Aug 19 '26
he just plays up his dislike for star wars since he's actually proud of it. It's just the rabid fandom that he hates. The indiana jones and blade runner fans tend to be far more chill

His biggest complaint about it was that he thought Han should have died at the end of Empire or begining of Return, as it would spur the rest of the characters onwards.

I think I remember seeing him say (or maybe this is inferring from things he’s said indirectly) that it’s because Indiana Jones is firstly a scholarly type character (he is an Archaeology professor after all- the adventuring is mostly his side hobby) and so Ford sees him as a more serious and respectable character.
Whereas Han Solo and Star Wars is just some space gobblygook that George Lucas cooked up lol
27
u/brown_felt_hat Aug 19 '26
Alec Guinness had much the same thought too (he always considered it a cheap role and was annoyed that it overshadowed his more 'thespian' roles), wonder if they commiserated or Ford felt that way later instead.
8
u/PriestessIuno2025 Aug 19 '26
Oh wow, I never thought of Guinness and Ford having camaraderie over that aspect of thespian personality, but it would make sense.

I love that Hamil's impression is so good that this has always been how I think of as the real Harrison Ford.
81
u/crimson_anemone Aug 19 '26
Honestly, he's probably never heard that song in that manner and it caught him pleasantly off guard. We need to remember that we would all be cranky if nearly everyone we met sang one song over and over and over again...
42
u/Neener216 Aug 19 '26
Now I'm reminded of the night Michael J. Fox was on SNL and they did a sketch where he was trapped in an elevator with a guy who kept singing "Gonna go back in time..."

Haven’t thought of that sketch in 30 years. Off to watch it.

He absolutely loves doing Shrinking with that crew if you see any of the behind the scenes stuff. I think it's his best role ever and I think it's because he is enjoying himself and the show has a lot of meaningfulness to it.
13
u/BeKindBabies Aug 19 '26
I work with him regularly and he's one of the happier people I know, the grumpy thing is kind of an act.

Shrinking? He's actually a surly old jerk in it but also nice. He's really, really good in the role.
12
u/IM_V_CATS Aug 19 '26
He's a therapeutic surly old jerk. Quite the difference really.
And yes, he's very good in the role. It'd probably be my favorite of his if he'd quit raw-dogging us.
3
u/Paddy_Tanninger Aug 19 '26
I'm kind of realizing how great it is to pretend you're grumpy all the time and the amount of magic you can fill the air with when you're all smiles. The nice thing is that with Harrison we know it's pretty much just an act, but it's still always so cool when he's bubbly like this.

58
u/Xiao1insty1e Aug 19 '26
Still John Williams ain't it?
40
u/NotYourReddit18 Aug 19 '26
He doesn't hate the quality of the music or who made it.
He just hates Star Wars.
That's why they froze Han in carbonite in ESB, he wasn't sure if he was willing to return for RotJ.
And Han getting killed in TFA was also on demand of Ford, otherwise he wouldn't have returned to Star Wars at all.
His appearance in TROS was only in honor of Carrie Fisher, as she obviously couldn't reprise her role anymore.

That’s a joke for the parents stuck listening to Sesame Street and paw patrol on a loop, like prisoners of war in their own homes. Give them one moment to smile for 1.25 seconds before something breaks or someone gets hit.
97
u/_Tower_ Aug 19 '26
I love putting on Sesame Street for the kids — it’s so pleasant and gives me a couple minutes where I can get stuff done
The hitting, breaking, and yelling comes from the older kids that don’t care about Sesame Street
32
u/vettechrockstar86 Aug 19 '26
You know what, Sesame Street is pleasant. So happy and colorful and fun. Ah man! I need to watch some Mister Roger’s right now to cleanse my adult soul!
I almost shot Dr Pepper from my nose reading the older kids comment. I like read it with a tone I’m pretty sure was in your head as you typed it!

My eldest didn’t have camp this week — he’s been fighting with his younger sister non-stop, and they’ve both been running around jumping all over the place. It’s been too hot to stay outside. It’s just constant redirection
My two youngest love it when I throw on Sesame Street, Ms Rachel, or Bluey though. It really helps them chill out when I need to get some stuff done
I have 4, I work from home, and they’re all home right now for the next week and a half before school starts
If I didn’t work, it wouldn’t be a problem and we could all just enjoy hanging out with each other. But as it is, that week and a half can’t go fast enough
5
u/ryanxwing Aug 19 '26
Sesame street, ma rachel, bluey. All nice shows to get a little time for chores or a bathroom break in peace.
6
u/TreeFiddy198 Aug 19 '26
My boy is 7 months old. He gets 10 minutes of ms rachel each day. Its the only time I have to clean his bottles before mom gets home. Then when I hand off the baby to her I go get ready for work. Im tired boss.

Some of us grew up in the time of Barney... we successfully kept it out of our house because we saw our friends lose their minds to hearing Barney's stupid song.
116
u/Shawnetello Aug 19 '26
We got to see him at a Panera Bread, a few years ago. Sitting there, eating our lunch, we see/hear a dude in a well-worn leather bomber jacket growling into his cell phone while he’s getting a drink refill, and my wife says “Hey, is that Harrison Ford?!”, and it is. So we sit there for a few moments and discuss if we should go up and say something, but we both agree he’s just a dude trying to eat a panini… we need to leave him alone.
But we also agree, we could still walk by his table on the way out. So, we walk down the isle he’s sitting in w/ his assistant, and he looks up at my wife as she passes bye and he gives her a warm smile and a friendly wink, and then he glances at me and gives me a look that says “come on, man, please don’t”, and I just kept walking by, and I just give him a little nod and casually say “Dr. Jones.”
He gives me a friendly smirk and a nod back and then goes back to eating his soup.
44
u/AndreLeGeant88 Aug 19 '26
I hope that really happened because it's a nice story haha
46
u/Shawnetello Aug 19 '26
Haha, I promise it did, we live in KS, where he frequents to get his plane serviced, and at this point people don’t really get too fussy when he pops in to town, it’s just like “oh cool, Harrison Ford is in town” 😄

It is a period of civil wars in the galaxy. A brave alliance of underground freedom fighters has challenged the tyranny and oppression of the awesome GALACTIC EMPIRE.
Striking from a fortress hidden among the billion stars of the galaxy, rebel spaceships have won their first victory in a battle with the powerful Imperial Starfleet. The EMPIRE fears that another defeat could bring a thousand more solar systems into the rebellion, and Imperial control over the galaxy would be lost forever.
To crush the rebellion once and for all, the EMPIRE is constructing a sinister new battle station. Powerful enough to destroy an entire planet, its completion spells certain doom for the champions of freedom.
