Purple Shield++

Went into Cryo Archive with a blue shield, found a purple with level up. Took it into Perimeter solos and exfilled and got a SPECTRE ARMOR. I thought it would be a normal gold shield, which I was already stoked about. gg

Purple shields and gold shields give the same amount of hp (200 total). There are two types of gold shields -- specter which turns you invisible, and reinforced which is similar to the reinforced green shields (it doubles the efficiency+speed of shield healing). There is no "normal gold shield" other than the bugged one last season which was just a purple shield with the gold color.

the free one they gave as a login reward at the end of last season must have been a bugged purple then. Reinforced shields take half damage which is effectively double shield health, so most people like the reinforced gold better but I enjoy spectre.

They take half damage but only have half the health. (40 vs 80) so that is more of a health speed/econ (2x depleted is enough to heal if)

Yes that was the bugged one.

Reinforced does not have double the shield health. Purple shields have 80 hp and reinforced golds have 40 hp while taking half damage. So it's the exact same amount of effective health. It just heals faster and more efficiently.

Reinforced is really good with stuff like triage drones, gold kkv, reverse card, alternating current, etc, because it effectively doubles all those healing effects.

Specter is still considered better even after the nerfs because it breaks aim assist and gives you iframes.

The wording is poor, but you still have the same HP as a regular gold shield. Think of the shield blocks as units, and the damage it takes to damage two units of a regular gold shield is the same it takes to damage one unit of a reinforced gold shield. The only difference is that you only need one depleted charge to charge one unit, and "reinforced" units have a larger health pool, but not a larger health pool overall.

I don't get why you are getting down voted I got several of the regular gold shields last season, one for free from the store and the rest off other players.

except it only half explains it. it takes half damage but has half health. as they say, witholding the full truth to be intentionally misleading is manipulation. which bungie does on purpose. as a little treat

It shows you on screen how much health it gives you. Purple and specter give 4 shield bars, reinforced gives 2. Same as reinforced green compared to regular green
