Discussion How samus survived a stab to the heart
so as we can see, samus got stabbed in the heart, which would most likely be fatal
but seeing as how she's been part metroid for a while now and we know most metroids have only 2 weak spots, the mouth and their membrane, so what if samus has a membrane but its not there so she was able to survive

I genuinely had no idea, I just relate to the hangry feeling! 😂 Thanks for the context!

Oh I know, I figured it was the exact chain of thoughts. That comment in response to yours though I’m a bit skeptical of.

u/Darth_Eevee Sep 12 '26
Yes + lol but also I think the plot will center around this happening in the opening scene and the ravenous hunger coming from her Metroid dna saving her life again
10
u/Double-Spell Sep 12 '26
Agreed, seems very much like the beginning of the game event that causes her to lose her upgrades.

If someone started chasing you with a giant scary knife, what do you do? Probably run. What does Samus Aran do? Samus Arans away.

My jaw dropped when this scene happened, and then I just started laughing in disbelief from how crazy and awesome it was to witness this.

u/KalenWolf Sep 12 '26
It's wonderfully cathartic if you had been beating your head against the boss fight and finally succeeded - she's just so done with his bullshit. First time I saw it, I was about half convinced that she was going to succeed in pulling his head off, which would have been metal as hell.

The best part for me is Raven Beak, who always seemed so confident up to that point, suddenly going "AAAH GET IT OFF ME, GET IT OFF MEEEEEE"
142
u/GnegonG Sep 12 '26
her suit's proportions have always made it a mystery how her body fits in there. whatever kind of bird magic it is, that's probably what saved her
28
u/TerranImperium Sep 12 '26
Let's not rationalize. Its far cooler to say she got stabbed in the heart and she just shrugged it off.
10
12
u/Gage-DSM Sep 12 '26
Yeah but the Dread Suit was like the first time that it wasn’t a mystery how her body fits in it, the proportions seemingly match her proportions out of the suit
4
u/DeathHopper Sep 12 '26
Worth mentioning the suits are basically part of her body itself, and not an external suit she can slip in and out of.
Her heart is also probably much different than a standard human heart I imagine. She's half bird, half super human, a bit parasite x, and mix in some metroid. She probably needs two hearts just to function. Maybe she's part timelord too.

Instead of dying, she sacrifices her power ups.
30
13
u/Ser_Rezima Sep 12 '26
yeah, that's the dread varia suit and it's the planet surface, game seems to start at the bottom of the hole. This is probably just this games factory reset, every game has one. It's tradition at this point!
2
u/nova_522 Sep 13 '26
Yeah, this was my thought for the game as well. Because of her injury, her suit puts everything into life support, and as she steal power from other creatures, a little bit of her suits functionality comes back on line each time

u/RunkkuRusina Sep 12 '26
She's got metroid and birb dna, how do you know thats where her heart is?
→ More replies (3)64
u/FubarJackson145 Sep 12 '26
Not only that, but if the theory that she's malnourished in the trailer is accurate, the metroid DNA was probably working overtime to heal such a greivous wound

u/SaniHarakatar Sep 12 '26
Stabbed through the heart, and you're to blame. You give Samus, a bad ache.

It kills her, they dump her body in the depths of the moon, but her metroid DNA kicks in and revives her but now she has to keep consuming other lifeforms in order to keep surviving.
12
u/EarthNeedsMoreAliens Sep 12 '26
you can see her charging a missile right after the stab, so i doubt she dies right there. maybe she falls a while after.

3
u/Bacitus Sep 12 '26
Maybe the blasting opened the hole and they couldnt finish her like they intended to. They are this games emmi

u/ClemOya Sep 12 '26
I think it’s a bit below and far to the left (on her pov) of her heart.

She’s barely human. She’s part Thoha, Mawnin, and Metroid. She’s also survived Phazon corruption, X-parasite conversion, and whatever psychic powers she got in Prime 4.

ATP gods are gonna have to take her seriously because she’s so goddamn stupid in terms of base power-up’s that Dr Doom would be starting at that and say “This is going to be a real fight.”

u/Chazok Sep 12 '26
I was thinking this might be the reason she becomes "Ravenous" because essentially her Metroid survival instincts kick in and in order to survive she has to keep eating the life force of all the creatures she comes across. Tho I'm like 99% sure she'll lose the Metroid Infusion she had after this game. Like that would be the resolution, Samus gets healed permanently but I'm order to do that she has to give up the Metroid DNA that kept her alive for so long.

I think she shakes off what happens at frist from pure adrenaline and keeps frighting gets overwhelmed but then bearly escapes because of the ground opening up.
Samus falls down gets brought back because of her Metroid powers but quickly needs to feed to restore her health and armour
6
u/Siggi_93 Sep 12 '26
Also they probably missed the heart. Adrenalin makes your heart pump harder and wouldn't help if it was actually stabbed through

Despite common belief, the heart doesn't lay on the left side of your chest, it tilts into the left cavity more than the right, but not by a lot.
It's still centered in your chest and the stab missed her heart.

In universe.. metroid DNA siphoning life force to heal herself.
Fun, too angry and hungry to die.
5
u/Sweyn7 Sep 12 '26 edited Sep 12 '26
I mean, if Metroid means "ultimate warrior" in Chozo speak it's probably because it has some innate abilities that makes them very resilient to battle wounds. Since they're living organism that can hold, drain, refill energy.
Samus may just be a menace capable of regenerating herself provided she has the energy for it at this point. Maybe by grabbing this kind of energy sword she can basically drain and break it.

u/Darkmetroidz Sep 12 '26
Samus is post-human and her biology is probably far beyond a normal person's.
She has both chozo and metroid DNA and either or both have altered her physiology.
Its also entirely possible she has space-marine esque augmentations that increase her power. So like a second heart.
3
3
u/GimmickMusik1 Sep 12 '26
Your heart is actually closer to the center of your chest, but also… it’s a video game. 🤷♂️

3
u/wildsprite Sep 12 '26
I love all of the theories people have come up with here.
That's probably below her heart, probably through her left lung.
3
u/Parzival-Bo Sep 12 '26
Eh, absorbing energy Metroid-style explicitly restores her energy, it also healing wounds really isn't out of the question.
3
3
u/Mrshadows9877 Sep 12 '26
With how messed up her DNA is at this point (radioactive phazon being produced and flowing in her own body during prime 3, a x parasite infection, and metroid DNA being injected directly to cure said infection.) I wouldn't be surprised if her organs have been rearranged or different from a normal human In the first place

It might just be the angle, but it looks to me like it was intended as a stab through the heart, but they aimed a little low and to the left of where her heart would be.
She probably does have a punctured lung and some nasty internal bleeding after that, though.
2
2
2
u/HallowedKeeper_ Sep 12 '26
It does look like it would just narrowly miss her heart, definitely punctured a lung, probably cleaved through some of her ribs as well. But we do know that the suit does have ways to heal her, pair that with adrenaline, that's probably why she could jeep fighting. This is also probably why she is ravenous now because while her suit can heal her, it would take a lot
2
u/Paulo_Zero Sep 12 '26
She is just that Girl, also the Chozo and Metroid DNA in her system does help.
2
2
u/No_Ad_7687 Sep 12 '26
that's clearly not the heart though. it's a stab to the lung. which is also lethal
2
u/CouldBeBetterTBH Sep 12 '26
She's eaten so many X parasites over time it wouldn't shock me if she could passively regenerate now.
2
2
2
u/ManElectro Sep 12 '26
Metroid DNA. She is part human, part chozo, and part metroid at this point, and her metroid DNA has started to grow stronger with time, giving her some pretty wild powers. Unfortunately the metroid DNA has eaten away her ass, so not all of the effects are positive.
2
2
2
u/BaravalDranalesk Sep 12 '26
Because she is Samus Motherfucking Aran. And you didn't stab her. She pulled you in to feel your blade with her bones. Because she's just that metal.
2
u/IllHaveTheLeftovers Sep 12 '26
You know how sometimes you’re too hungry to sleep? Well sleep is the cousin of death.
2
u/Bimjus Sep 12 '26
It certainly is a mystery set up in the trailer to cause intrigue!
In seriousness though, metroid adaptations to her body is a pretty cool theory!

2
2
2
u/SKIKS Sep 12 '26
She's, like, 3 and a half different species now and routinely has space bird magic absorbed and forcefully ejected from her. I'm just assuming her physiology is fucked up beyond logic.
2
2
2
u/MarioBoy77 Sep 12 '26
That wouldn’t have hit her heart, just a lung and her boob, it’s too far left of a stab wound
2
u/MetroidJunkie Sep 12 '26
We know she kept the ability to drain things, maybe Metroid DNA can give her some form of regeneration too. Metroids seem nearly impossible to kill unless you freeze them so I'd imagine their gelatinous form gives them regeneration.
2
2
2
u/VirtualSlip5712 Sep 12 '26
She’s a Metroid so thankfully those space ninja weren’t smart enough to freeze her.
2
u/TheFatDrake Sep 12 '26
Metroid DNA. Probably found something down in the pit and absorbed it to heal

u/ChampionGunDeer Sep 12 '26
That's not her heart—it's her stomach.
Everything is stomach.
A hole is in her stomach.
That's why she's ravenous, duh!
2
2
u/Blondemort Sep 12 '26
I mean at this point samus is a living ship of theseus doesn't she have like at least three types of dna on her body?
Wouldn't be surprised she either got an extra heart or doesn't particularly needs one anymore
2
u/RoundInfluence998 Sep 12 '26
There’s 100% going to be some metroid-related regenerative powers going on under the hood.
2
2
u/Keleos89 Sep 12 '26
At the end of this scene, we see her grab the sword. She probably drains the sword's energy to heal herself.

She survives it because she's playing Minecraft before the hunger update. Just chow down on some steak enemies and she's good as new.

u/sdwoodchuck Sep 12 '26
The same way she survives using the Shinespark, which no amount of armor would allow you to survive. By being a videogame character in a story that essentially casts her as a superhero.
