Discussion Genuinely cannot get over how amazing this sequence looks

4.9k Upvotes

This feels like some of the best close quarters action we've seen from Samus, and it's animated so well!

Also, I'm inclined to believe this scene is from the opening and is what leads to her losing her abilities again. Stuff like being on the surface and being stabbed, which she mentions an injury earlier in the trailer.

Oh I'm so hyped

Discussion Is NES Metroid really that bad?

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

I haven’t played it myself, so I can’t really give an opinion on it, but it’s not the first time I’ve seen people say that it’s bad. Now that a lot of new people are getting into Metroid, I’m seeing more fans telling newcomers to avoid it and just play Zero Mission instead.

Discussion The main Metroid story is now two distinct trilogies

Post image
2.7k Upvotes

With at least a vague idea of what Ravenous will be about, I now see the main timeline as having two pretty well defined arcs, and I think it's really impressive that a Nintendo series of all things has been able to put together such a consistent and compelling story over a franchise that's been going this long

Am I off base, or does the story shape up like this for you too?

Everything about this game is just perfect in every way. I could write a book about it but honestly if you know you know.

Discussion Metroid dread any good?

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

I’ve never played any 2D Metroid games. I recently played Metroid Prime Remastered and Prime 4 Beyond. I gotta say I liked them both. I did play the Metroid Dread’s Demo a few years back but couldn’t get into it. Today I was in a game shop and saw a lonely copy just sitting there so I decided to pull the trigger. Got a nice discount as well. Anyway, what do you guys think about this game? Is it any good? I remember it reviewed well but some players didn’t like it too much. So not sure what to think.

Discussion Can We Agree Metroid Has Become A Top Franchise Now?

The fact that Metroid Dread literally sky rocketed in price and is being scalped is crazy I remember when dread released and Metroid Fusion also went up in price

And these games are system sellers too Dread helped heavily In selling the Switch OLED, Prime 4 got people into the switch 2 Era and Ravenous is becoming a Exclusive for the Switch 2

I’m currently playing through Dread, and her base suit is genuinely one of the most beautiful armour designs i’ve ever seen.

The copper, white and blue is just SUCH a feast for the eyes. I was genuinely upset when it changed.

Discussion A modern remake of Fusion would make Dead Space look like Animal Crossing

Post image

The only thing keeping us from shitting our pants was the small colorful GBA screen. The whole concept of Fusion would benefit from a remake more than Super Metroid IMO, but thats a subjective topic.

*chef's kiss*
Figured I'd share this now, rather than waiting for someone to share an unhinged takedown post against him later.

EDIT: If you're worried about Mike talking about you because you're critical of the game, he's not. If you can't accept he's talking about toxic fandom instead, that's on you.

Discussion How Physically Strong Do You Think Samus Is?

Thumbnail

1.3k Upvotes

Because in many of the games across the franchise we can see her manhandling giant alien wildlife and kaiju. I could honestly see her able to lift a coulple hundred tons or more at this point. Plus in Samus returns she’s physically strong enough to counter Mecha Ridely’s full blown swooping attack as well.

Discussion It seems clear to me that Metroid Ravenous is the end of a trilogy that started with Fusion back in 2002.

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

I've seen some people talk about Ravenous as the second game in the MercurySteam trilogy, but I believe that MercurySteam always wanted to follow on from Fusion to complete the story being told there(which is supported by the fact that they actually pitched a Metroid Fusion remake originally, and then their Metroid 2 remake heavily connected it back to Fusion).

1-3 is the "Hunter", "Orange Suit" or "Metroid" trilogy.

4-6 is the "Hunted" or "Blue Suit" or (possibly) "X Parasite" trilogy.

In the first trilogy, Samus is the hunter. Her mission is to seek out and destroy Metroids and Space Pirates. She has her classic orange suit throughout, and it ends with the eradication of all Metroids, and the destruction of Zebes, where it all began. It tells a complete story.

In the second trilogy, Samus is on the back foot thanks to the X parasite. Her suit is nearly destroyed, it is now blue, and it is regrowing over the course of the trilogy.

The Metroid DNA saves her life, and it starts to change her. She's also being hunted by the SA-X, then the Emmi/Raven Beak, and now the Space Ninjas/remaining Mawkin Chozo.

I think Ravenous will see Samus reach her full potential, fully restoring her suit, and I cannot waaaaait.

I only spent like 15 minutes on this be nice

EDIT: Not necessarily Prime, I just used that title as its first person. Maybe something like

METROID: OBLITERATION
METROID: DEVASTATION
METROID: EXTINCTION

My favorite is philosophical Samus! I'm also a big fan of the Nier games so...I really love when the characters are self reflecting on their journey :) I think Fusion did that pretty well and the payoff is beautiful. And you? Which is your favorite side of Samus Aran?

Discussion Metroid Samus Returns needs a Switch Port (I really want to play it) 🔥🙏🔥

Post image

I have no real interest in a Nintendo 3DS, I skipped that console ages ago and didn't look back. But this game i do not think its mid at all, yes it can be repetitive but from gameplay I have seen its a very solid Metroidvania and has really cool boss fights. While AM2R is s more faithful remake, this is like a whole new game.. but seriously why 3DS? Yes the player base was larger back then but come on the Nintendo Switch is where this game belongs, touch screen beam switching, having to look at your map on the bottom screen. All could have been mitigated on Switch.

What are your thoughts this? We need this before or after Ravenous. Don't really care just thst it happens!

Discussion How samus survived a stab to the heart

Post image

so as we can see, samus got stabbed in the heart, which would most likely be fatal

but seeing as how she's been part metroid for a while now and we know most metroids have only 2 weak spots, the mouth and their membrane, so what if samus has a membrane but its not there so she was able to survive

Discussion Your Metroid Ravenous wishlist. Go.

Post image

Me first:

- better music

- optional bosses (including an endgame super boss)

- more sequence breaks

- use metroid suit outside of assassin fights

- a super hard difficulty like dread mode

- bring back boss rush

- online leader boards for main game and boss rush

- a speedrun mode (omits cutscenes and tutorials + optional timer display).

- LET. US. SKIP. THE. INTRO. I don't need to see the SA-X's mug up close every damn time I start a new run!!

- an easy mode at launch. Not necessarily for me, but it should have been there to begin with in Dread.

- Anthony Higgs shows up at the last minute to save the day and says his iconic line: "REMEMBER ME?!"

- give us cross bombs earlier if its in the game.

- playable dread varia suit before her suit resets to blue suit.

EDIT:

  • Adam gets shoved into a potato like GLaDOS

Discussion I played Super Metroid 32 years late. Is it truly one of the best games of all time?

Post image
875 Upvotes

After 32 years of never getting around to playing it, I recently completed Super Metroid for the first time!

Incredible game, an obvious technical and artistic powerhouse for 1994, and absolutely worth playing, but after an hour and a half of discussion following my playthrough, my personal conclusion was that it didn't *quite* reach the lofty expectations set by so many "Top X Games of All Time" lists I've seen it placed on over the years, sometimes even at #1!

How do you feel about Super Metroid in the context of the rest of the series and in the context of "greatest of all time" conversations?
