General Other than reporting it, is there a way to get direct help from an Admi re: an ongoing report abuse attack?

In one of the subs where I mod we've been fielding an ongoing report abuse attack. Aside from the painstaking process of reporting them one by one, is there anything more we can do to get an Admin to actually look at who is doing this and take action?

Desktop or whichever

Tips & Tricks why posts are removed from a freshly launched subreddit?

I just started a subreddit - and somehow if a post contains a link - it is removed automatically.

The Mod Queue is saying that the post is removed due to not allowed domain: "Links to an URL not allowed on Reddit"

It contains link to an X post.

but the same thing happens with other link as well.

So how to enable links in posts on a subreddit.

General Is it true that if I don't do mod actions my sub can be banned and taken?

I find it's weird that reddit forces mod actions. My sub is mostly in auto pilot. I only set up things. And once things are set up the only thing left to be done is to remove ads and participate like a normal sub user.

Changing me would probably ruin the sub into an echo chamber. Weird that they encourage mods power tripping over a person who knows boundaries and encourages free speech.

Option 1: adding more mods. Risks of new mods power tripping and enforcing echo chamber. And they could kick the sub owner which shouldn't be an option at all no matter what.

Option 2: don't add more mods. Risks of sub being banned because no active mods and sub being either down or taken.

Option 3: Clicking meaningless approvements just for the sake of it. Is being mod a white collar job?

There is no win here right? It's a mechanic that encourages power tripping mods and echo chambers. I'd rather to not have mods in my sub enforcing their online 'rules' and banning nay sayers.

It's true that I could direct users to my private chat Servers but does reddit actually want people off reddit?

Tools How to not make mods exempt from automations?

desktop

i made an automation where if a keyword is in a title, it will filter to queue. when i make a post with the keyword it filters it out as it should but then it comes back. is there anyway to not make my own posts (mod posts) exempt from automation rules? with the old automod i had no issues with this

edit: i do not have full permissions on the sub so adding an app, etc. wont work

General Not sure I'm understanding how to use community bookmarks

Using the web browser on my desktop.

I've added the widget to my subreddit and all it has is the wiki, which I've added some pages to just to start with. However, currently struggling with a few things:

- The wiki link is broken and doesn't take anybody to the pages I've made

- I actually want to have buttons that lead to certain pages in the community bookmarks like other subreddits do. Not external links, but to the pages within the wiki. I see the option to add a new bookmark, but I'm not entirely sure how to actually link to these specific wiki pages–– what am I copying a link from?

Everything online that I've found just tells me how to add the widget itself, which I've already done!

Thanks!

General Cant invite to group DM

I recruited a new mod, but cannot invite them to our group DM.

It says "Unable to invite".

Is it an age thing? They are <18. Do they have to ID?

[IDK if that's the issue, it's just a guess]

Tips & Tricks How do yall minimize "can you approve my post" messages in modmail?

I would estimate that 75% of the modmail that I receive are these types of messages. It slows everything down, makes moderating more time consuming and less efficient.

We have content control enabled, which means that most posts from new/low activity accounts get held for manual review. That's fine, we have an active mod team that is clearing the modqueue multiple times a day. And yes it does help to prevent spam etc. so it is a useful tool.

The annoying & inefficient part is that the users see the "your post was removed by reddit filters" message and immediately send a modmail asking us to approve it. Not a day later after it's been sitting in modqueue for 24+ hours (which would be more understandable). Immediately.

Anyway, rant over.

What are yall doing to minimize this pattern and increase efficiency?

The only thing I can think of: disable the built-in reddit filters and replicate it with some automoderator code. With automod, filter posts from accounts with less than X amount of subreddit karma and immediately DM the user. In the DM, **HEAVILY** emphasize that their post will be manually reviewed, and quickly, and to NOT message the mods unless their post has been filtered for >24 hours.

I understand this won't ***prevent*** receiving modmail, but my hope is that it would ***minimize*** it.

I'm on desktop.

Tools Having trouble setting up automations after not being able to add them to automod anymore

type: submission
author:
account_age: "< 30 days"
action: filter
action_reason: "NEW ACCOUNT"

when i try to add this code to automod it says:

Report, Filter, Remove, and Approve actions aren't available for new automod configurations. To save changes, remove these actions.

when i go to Automations though i cannot find a setting where i can set a condition based on account age, only user flair. this is what i see

Answered Help with new subreddit community

I'm new to Reddit but have been active for the last four months. I created a subreddit, but it receives little engagement and few followers. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Similar posts I share in other groups get great engagement, and on other social media platforms my content receives comments and reposts. I'm stuck. My subreddit is r/BlindLabelCigar. I believe I set it up correctly. I would appreciate any advice you can offer. Again, I'm very new to Reddit.

Tools disabling "AI" summaries on profiles?

that LLM generated things that appears when you see someone's profile as a mod. we must be disable it right?

probably not, but if it's not the case, please change it. i don't wanna explain again why this unrespectable stuff is problematic. it shouldn't exist, but at least make it optional *and* opt-in (same for autoenforce). please.

(im on a desktop shush automod)

edit: apparently i wrongly assumed this sub to be managed by reddit staff so sorry, but i needed to complain somewhere

edit2: for puture people seeing this, you can hide those summary manually with any browser extension that allows to inject css code into a website. add this css code for reddit.com:

/*** hides ai profile summary for mods ***/
*:has(> * > * > *[icon-name=ai]):has(mod-note-overflow-menu) {
  display: none;
}

it only hides the summary, so they're still generated, and it's only for yourself. and it might cause problems if reddit changes its code.

General Modmail not showing any mail

Desktop, firefox

"Modmail" is showing that there are no messages, when it's set to show "All" (ie the default).

If I click on one of the "filters" - such as "Mod Discussions" - then it shows messages.

If I then click "All" to remove that filter, it shows none.

I got a notification for a new modmail today. If I click that, I see it. But if I then click "back" it says there are no messages.

General How to restrict posts by account age and karma on a new subreddit — AutoMod not available?

Hi! I recently created a new NSFW subreddit and I'm trying to set up basic spam protection — specifically:

  1. Minimum account age (30 days) before posting

  2. Minimum combined karma (100) before posting

  3. Minimum comment karma (25) before posting

On my older subreddits I use AutoModerator for this with no issues. However on this new sub I'm getting this message:

**"Report, Filter, Remove, and Approve actions aren't available for new automod configurations."**

Reddit is pointing me toward Auto Enforce and Automations instead but neither seem to support account age or karma filtering.

**My questions:**

  1. Is there a way to set karma/account age requirements on a new sub without AutoMod?

  2. How long until full AutoMod access is available on a new sub?

  3. Is Auto Enforce or Automations capable of karma/age filtering that I'm missing?

Any help appreciated — thank you! (android/MacBook Pro)

Answered Reddit spam filter gone berserk

IDK if this is the right sub. ( Desktop)

I just noticed that Reddit's spam filter went berserk in a post and banned 26 (!!) accounts in a post on a sub I moderate.

All the banned accounts had a one-liner comment. And two of those were identical (a bit suspicious).

But the post is real; not commercial spam: https://www.reddit.com/r/twilightimperium/comments/1wcmrew/comment/pe6q1i4/

Is there anything that can be done to undo those bans?

General Highlighting (then removing highlight) glitched a post's ranking in subreddit feed for Android app only. And should same-sub cross posting be possible?

I made this good news announcement in our small-ish subreddit (r/ScreenSensitive) today. After highlighting (aka pinning) it, then undoing that a few hours later, the Android mobile app showed it listed below 2 less upvoted posts from 1 and 2 days ago. Including after clearing the app cache. While desktop and mobile web showed it top (by all ranking options).

Why I removed post highlight: it got 5 upvotes in the first half hour or so, more than any other post's total for a week or so. The only post on the sub today, of 1.9k members. Then I pinned it and the view count for the next hour immediately halved and stayed at that level for 4 consecutive hours. Google search told me pinning can kill algorithmic velocity dead. But the sources cited were very low quality and ambiguous. So I tried removing highlight it to see, not expecting it to help, either way.

What I'm wondering is if the mobile app positioning is just a glitch, or might better reflect what's happening under the hood of the home feed algorithm?

After removing highlight, I later tried hiding/unhiding and removing/restoring the post, in case that jogged the app or algorithm. (I then also hid mod mark and changed flair from Announcement to Discussion, in case of human factors.)

Then I tried cross-posting it within the same sub (from desktop web). Google said this shouldn't be possible, but it worked fine. Is that because I'm using a mod account or something unusual? Seems like unintended behaviour.

This has given a modest view bump and the original post now sits above the 2 day old post in the sub-feed (but below the 1 day older post. I guess some here may say I'm over-analysing? Also, leading with rules changes and burying the lead (from the title) won't have helped on the human side. But the previous text heavy community meta post did an order of magnitude better, for views. So maybe it's not just a skill issue.

I can link screenshots if more clarity is wanted and that's permitted?
