News REDMAGIC announces 5K 180Hz MiniLED monitor with 5,184 dimming zones and 330Hz dual-mode support

Most interesting thing here is the unusal amount of dimming zones.

New Gen backlights have 9216 LEDs so this does not fit in any configuration. Its an entirely different module and "5184 MiniLEDs" prabably refers to a 1 zone per 1 LED approach.

Discussion INNOCN GA32V1M MAX, 32 4K mini LED monitor with 2304 dimming zones "glossy", first impressions

Hi

I just bought this from Aliexpress. Tbh, it was expensive. I will share my impressions as an average users. I don't have the expertise to review this product.

This monitor is supposed to be glossy, but tbh. It sometimes looks glossy, but sometimes looks kind of matte. I think they probably slapped a glossy coating on it, just a theory. Regardless, still looks better than matte for me, I just like glossy panels personally. I would call it semi glossy.

The monitor response times are not as good as oled, there is a bit of ghosting, please note this with local dimming enabled. It is good enough for me though. I mostly just play single player games.

Regarding the local dimming, I am someone that doesn't notice blooming compared to a lot of people. So I did not expect this but local dimming is usable while on desktop. I did not expect this.

There are three modes: low, middle and strong local dimming. The strong does indeed have OLED like blacks but it is way too dim when the scene is on the darker side, did not like that personally. I don't notice any blooming on this mode. This mode is best for really dark games where blooming can be noticeable. You are going to take a hit in brightness but no blooming.

Middle is where it is at, you get much better brightness when it comes to dark scenes, but there is slight blooming and blacks are not oled deep blacks but they are still more than black enough and way better than regular LCDs. Also, this mode seems to have less artifacting while using local dimming for desktop use. When the lights are on, I don't notice the blooming at all. When the lights are off and the display at 100 percent brightness, there is mild blooming but you forget about it, unlike the whole screen being gray like regular IPS with dark scenes.

I would say the local dimming is almost on par with the macbook pro 16, slightly worse.

I am really happy with this monitor tbh. It has some drawbacks, but it is great. I still think OLED is better. I would not recommend someone to get this over an OLED tbh. I already have an OLED but wanted a second monitor and wanted to try something different. It is better than OLED at watching bright content or bright HDR scenes in a well lit room, text is clearer. I will mostly use this for lots of static type content/work. Honestly, the more I use it, the more I like it more....I will write my final thoughts once I try it for few days, this is the first day.

Hi everyone!

I found a way to access the engineering menu on my TCL 34R83Q monitor. I asked an engineer and tech blogger on Boosty about it, and here's what he replied:

"Hi. I don't remember the exact procedure, of course, but the typical way to access engineering menus is to hold the joystick in a certain direction (up, center, or down), usually the direction used to open the regular menu.

Without releasing the joystick, unplug the power and plug it back in. Keep holding the joystick until the monitor boots up, then open the menu. An F should appear in the upper-left corner. Simply select it using the joystick. TCL uses exactly the same method on all its monitors. I don't remember which direction you need to hold, but you can try all the options in about 10 minutes."

I'd like to invite everyone to share photos of the engineering menus on their TCL 34R83Q monitors in this thread.

I'd also like to figure out which of the displayed values corresponds to the firmware version.

Discussion Monitor suddenly started doing this

Post image
• Upvotes

My Acer monitor suddenly started displaying this severe visual glitch today.

Here is some background and what I've tested so far:

For about a month, I had a few minor horizontal lines around the middle/top area, but they were very faint and didn't bother me much.

Last night, before turning it off, those exact same horizontal lines were still the only issue.

But when I turned it on this morning, it suddenly looked like this (massive vertical color bars ).

I already swapped the cables (HDMI/DP) and changed the ports on my PC

I suspect it's a panel failure due to the history of those lines, but I wanted to ask here just to be sure. Is this a classic panel/COF failure, or could it be something else?

Ive had one for about 3 years and it didnt hit me until recently that wow, this monitor is just amazing.

Its only 60hz, so obviously not competitive gaming orientated, but its such a versatile monitor and you can get them cheap as dirt.

360* movement, 1920/1080.

Im finding them for about 30$ on marketplace near me, i plan to use them in a budget sim car build soon.

Seriously recommend as a budget and versatile monitor

Discussion Help for new monitor - Ps5

• Upvotes

Hello kind people.

Im looking to buy a new gaming monitor for my PS5 for this little game coming out November 19th.
I bought the thing I currently use a decade ago. Its a BenQ Zowie RL2755-b
I know next to nothing about what's good, and what worth it and what is not, so maybe you could point me in the right direction?:-)

Im looking for something 27 inch and as good a response time at least as my current one would be preferred. Also something that can make the game look brilliant.
Also thinking of upgrading to a Ps5 pro whenever it's back in stock. Don't know if that's a factor

Budget is whatever tbh. Depends on what a half decent monitor costs these days.
Would love for the budget not to go over like 400-500 dollars, but if necessary for a good one, I would spend a little extra. But as cheap as possible is always nice.

Discussion Used-monitor check before you pay: 4 fields that show dead pixels, bleed and ghosting, free in-browser :)

Bought my last monitor second hand and ran the check on the seller's desk before paying. 5 minutes, no app, no upload - just the browser.

https://appdoesit.com/apps/monitor-test/

4 checks, all visual self-checks that run 100% on your device: - dead/stuck pixels: 8 solid colors, a per-pixel gradient, plus a random-pixel view - backlight bleed: a black and a dim-gray field (corner glow is normal on many IPS panels, patchy bright spots are not) - ghosting: a square that moves at the speed you set - uniformity: an 11-step gray ramp

I'm quite sure it is a sanity check, not a defect certificate - you are the instrument, what you see depends on the room and the angle. So a spot you catch is worth checking twice before you return anything.

Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded, no camera is accessed and there is no account. It is one of the 153 free tools at https://appdoesit.com/apps

Try it on your own panel before your next purchase, and tell me which of the 4 caught something first :)

Text Review KTC M27P6S Glossy 4K MiniLED First days Impressions

TL;DR: Good, but with some quirks, worth it if you can get it at a good price.

My KTC M27P6S finally arrived. After using it for 2 days I'm going to write my impressions and thoughts.

Manufacturing date: July 2026

Firmware version: EUR-1.0.1

I will compare it to other high end displays like the PG32UQX MiniLED, an LG CX77 OLED, and my old but trusty PG279Q.

I genuinely think that it is a decent product, but with some quirks that I will explain in each section.

IPS Panel

A regular run-of-the-mill modern fast IPS panel.

Like modern IPS monitors, this has some vignetting on the sides, with the edges of the screen appearing slightly darker. This is visible only at an angle or if you sit close to the screen like me.

My PG279Q from 2015 had zero vignetting, my PG32UQX did have it, and the CX OLED has none. My speculation is that this is due to changes in panel manufacturing in recent years.

Not a dealbreaker, but something you will notice if you are used to an old IPS panel like me and sit close.

Glossy Coating

The most interesting thing of this monitor. This model and a few of other INNOCN monitors that are not widely available are the only ones to offer a glossy coating, so this is something that will attract the attention of many people.

The coating is like the coating on LG OLED TVs, so if you've seen one, this is about the same.

It has some sort of anti-reflection layer because reflections are not fully mirror-like (in a good way). The reflections are mostly noticeable on black areas, but they are subdued in intensity, rather than being fully reflected as they would be in a mirror.

Dust is more visible than on a matte coating, and I already left some fingerprints on the corners while I was handling it. I did not test the hardness of the coating, nor do I want to (lol).

Thanks to this, the image quality is excellent, with zero haze from a matte coating and better perceived black levels when there is ambient light.

Compared to the PG32UQX, this is night and day. The PG32UQX had a terrible, very grainy coating; it introduced a lot of graininess to the image, while this one has none.

The PG279Q had a decent light matte coating, almost no graininess, so these are both equally good in their respective ways.

Overall, I liked it. This is the standout feature of this monitor, so for glossy lovers, this is the only option available right now.

While a glossy coating has better image quality than a matte one, I still would not recommend a glossy monitor for someone who does not like reflection or has a bright room.

STW polarizer

This is the second standout feature of this monitor. I was skeptical about this since reading a review, but I can confirm that it has one.

This feature is also very rare in monitors, only very old IPS panels had it, and then manufacturers stopped implementing it.

Compared to the PG32UQX, this is also night and day. The PG32UQX had a lot of blooming at an angle; this has none, it has the same amount of blooming as when looking at the center, or even less. So, very good.

PG32UQX vs PA32UCG Image is not mine, but this is roughly how my PG32UQX looked at an angle. These polarizers make a big difference in reducing blooming and IPS glow.

On a full black screen with local dimming disabled, there is no IPS glow. Everything looks almost uniform, and there isn't any of the usual yellow glow on the corners. Image from Chimolog Review on a black screen, zero ips glow.

I stress-tested the M27P6S at unrealistic angles, and I could only see a very faint magenta tint at the corners in a fully dark room, so this is excellent.

Local dimming

The local dimming algorithm is dark-biased, something that I personally like. Upon enabling it, especially on SDR, you will notice a decrease in overall brightness.

I tested it in both a bright room during the day and a fully dark room.

During the day, it will be very hard to notice the blooming. In a fully dark room, it is noticeable in complex scenes, but somewhat decent, much better than the blooming that my PG32UQX had.

I hated the local dimming on my PG32UQX, it blasted small elements at full brightness, and the blooming was unbearable (video is not mine, but i swear it was like this).

Thankfully, I can confirm that this does not happen with the KTC M27P6S. It reduces the brightness of small elements so they produce much less blooming (and the STW polarizer also helps a lot!).

I know some people won't like that it is dark-biased, but for me this is good.

You can still customize the degree of blooming you want from the OSD with the "Halo control" option, but I did not fiddle with this that much since it was good for me out of the box. For those who like to prioritize brightness over blooming, it's good that you have the option.

For those who want to keep local dimming enabled at all times on SDR, this is actually somewhat usable. My PG32UQX had a lot of inverse blooming, especially on grey backgrounds. This monitor does not seem to have as much, with just some brightness changes when moving windows and opening context menus.

Local dimming does not increase input lag that much on SDR, but it does on HDR. I'm not able to test the exact amount since I do not have the required equipment, but my PG32UQX also had noticeable input lag when using local dimming.

Due to my GPU's performance, I hover around 60 fps with adaptive sync. This means about 60 Hz or even lower, and I can definitely feel it, but the input lag is similar to that of the PG32UQX. You will definitely feel it in first-person shooters. For competitive play, always disable local dimming on any Mini-LED monitor.

Not a dealbreaker for me. Maybe this can be solved with further firmware upgrades, but it is something to take into account.

Local dimming has an "Auto" setting that is Off for an SDR signal and High for an HDR signal. Sadly, I was not able to save different local dimming settings for SDR and HDR signals.

Anyway, I still usually disable local dimming on SDR (unless I'm playing or watching a dark game/video), since, with the coating and the polarizer, the black levels are actually decent, and local dimming introduces some gamma and color changes on Mini-LED monitors.

HDR

I have to confess that the PG32UQX was better. Since its algorithm always wanted to prioritize brightness, it was much more spectacular.

This is still good, but the PG32UQX was a night-and-day difference between SDR and HDR.

Overall, I still prefer this one since, as I said, I can't stand blooming.

Those who come from edge-lit displays or other non-high-end Mini-LED monitors will still be happy.

You can somewhat customize HDR to your preferences if you do not like the overall presentation, since these OSD settings are still available on an HDR signal: Color temperature, six-axis color saturation, Brightness, and Black Equalizer.

One thing that I noticed is that the algorithm of the monitor does not like to turn the zones fully black if there are elements with medium-to-high APL on the screen.

This was noticeable in a fully dark room when watching an HDR movie. The top and bottom black bars were not fully black at 0.00/0.02 nits unless the screen was almost completely black.

Not noticeable for most people, but I always test in the harshest environment, such as a fully dark room.

Build Quality

The only thing that concerns me about this monitor and that I did not like is the power supply. It is internal. So if it goes bad you are out of luck.

I'm also concerned that if I put my ear right up to the upper vent of the monitor, I can hear some noise. I think it is coil whine from the power supply. I can't hear it when using the monitor at my usual distance (I use the monitor close to my face), but I'm still worried about it since I'm not too sure whether it will increase or whether it is even a fan and I will hear it in a fully silent room.

Quality Control

Bad but I'm still somewhat lucky.

5 dead pixels at the bottom-right corner of the monitor. It would be much worse if those were stuck pixels and closer to the center of the monitor.

Since they are near the corner of the screen and the monitor has a high pixel density, they do not bother me.

(To European Redditors) Buying it from aliexpress

As far as I know, the monitor is only available in the United States and Japan through the official KTC Store.

In Europe, I could only find it from AliExpress. I purchased it from a seller called Ansett Store. The seller always replied to my questions, such as when I asked when it was going to ship or whether the monitor was the European version. It came from Poland.

The monitor I received was indeed a European version. It came with the EUR-1.0.1 firmware, a European Schuko (Type F) plug, and the European energy label on the box, plus the usual accessories like cables, stand, etc.

I do not know if it will be available from other sources. This is speculation, but it seems like this seller is either KTC in disguise or someone in charge of selling to the European market.

I managed to get it for €345 (~$388) thanks to AliExpress coupons, so make sure to take advantage of those.

Conclusion

I like it overall, specially at this price point, seems like my old PG279Q can finally retire (11 years old!), The only concern I have right now is the power supply.

I consider this worth it, especially if you are after the specific, somewhat niche feature set that this monitor has, such as the glossy coating combined with a MiniLED backlight.

A few months ago, I was eyeing an equivalent 4K 27-inch OLED, and the prices were almost double that of this one. Combined with the fact that my usage is 60% static and 40% gaming, this was a no-brainer at this price point. Fingers crossed it lasts me as long as my PG279Q!

So personally:

Pros:

  • Glossy coating
  • STW polarizer
  • Shadow-biased algorithm

Cons:

  • Internal power supply
  • High chance of dead pixels
  • Higher input lag when using HDR with Local Dimming

For a more technical review with measurements, please refer to either the DisplayNinja or the Chimolog review.

Feel free to ask any questions or suggest things that you want tested.

Discussion Should I buy the BenQ EW270Q again after getting a refund due to backlight bleeding?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hey guys,

I recently ordered the BenQ EW270Q from Amazon, and honestly, my first impression was amazing. The display looked great, the colors were beautiful, and overall, I was really happy with the monitor.

However, while watching a movie, I noticed that the black scenes looked unusually bright, with white light glowing around the edges of the screen. So I decided to test it by displaying a completely black screen, and the backlight bleeding was much more noticeable than I expected.

I contacted customer support and requested a replacement, but the monitor was out of stock, so I ended up getting a refund.

Now I'm looking for a monitor again, and I'm honestly tempted to buy the EW270Q once more because I really liked everything else about it. But after this experience and seeing other people report similar bleeding issues on Reddit, I'm not sure if I should take the risk again.

Discussion PS5 Pro - HDMI 2.1 naar DisplayPort 1.4 adapter voor 1440p 120Hz?

Hi everyone!

I'm planning to buy a PS5 Pro soon, and I'm looking for a reliable HDMI to DisplayPort adapter.

**My monitor:** Samsung Odyssey G5 34" Ultrawide (LC34G55TWWPXEN)

**Specifications:**

- Resolution: 3440 × 1440

- Maximum refresh rate: 165Hz

- HDMI 2.0

- DisplayPort 1.4

**Important note about the ultrawide aspect ratio:**

I'm fully aware that the PS5/PS5 Pro does NOT support 21:9 ultrawide output.

The black bars on the left and right sides of the screen are NOT a problem for me. I expect them and I'm perfectly happy playing in 16:9 on this monitor.

I'm NOT trying to get 3440 × 1440 or stretch the PS5 image to fill the entire ultrawide screen.

**My problem:**

I can't get 120Hz from a PlayStation through my monitor's HDMI connection. To achieve 120Hz, I want to use the monitor's DisplayPort 1.4 input with an active HDMI-to-DisplayPort adapter.

My goal is very specific:

**PS5 Pro → 2560 × 1440 → 120Hz → 16:9 with black bars on both sides**

The black side bars are completely fine. The only thing I'm trying to achieve is a reliable 1440p/120Hz signal with the lowest possible input lag.

I was considering the UPTab UP-HDMI2DPG2 active HDMI 2.1 to DisplayPort 1.4 adapter, but it's currently difficult to find.

**My questions:**

- Which active HDMI 2.1 to DisplayPort 1.4 adapter would you recommend?

- Has anyone successfully tested one with a PS5 or PS5 Pro at 2560 × 1440 / 120Hz?

- Are there any reliable adapters that work without signal loss, random black screens, handshake problems or excessive input lag?

- Most importantly: has anyone actually tested this with the Samsung Odyssey G5 34" (LC34G55TWWPXEN)?

I'm looking for a proven solution that actually works at 1440p/120Hz, rather than an adapter that only claims to support it on paper.

Again, I know the PS5 doesn't support 21:9 and I have absolutely no problem with black bars on the sides. My question is purely about achieving **2560 × 1440 at 120Hz through the DisplayPort input**.

Any recommendations or first-hand experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
