Morality Ranking Morality of fashioning something to stab the arm of your seatmate if they touch you?

Just saw this on threads. What’s the morality of using an earring and fashioning it to your sweatshirt so it stabs your seatmate if they bump into you (whether or not it was an accident - still getting poked). Worst case scenario with high turbulence, you’re getting stabbed.

I’m going to go with immoral for this scenario. And also illegal.

Idk about legality, but imagine if this post makes it far enough that the FAA bans all piercing jewelry?

u/TheMaidenOfDragons 1d ago edited 9h ago

This is making the rounds on Threads and surprisingly the comments are veryyyy different.

Literal polar opposites - a lot of them are saying “you go girl!” and things like that

Edit: can we not take what this one woman did and act like “misandry is in?” It’s not.

Tbf isn't Threads the like Twitter version of Insta? I am not surprised at all

56

u/Mega3000aka 1d ago

Threads may have an even bigger concentration of unbelievably stupid takes than Twitter.

34

u/Unlimited_Giose 1d ago

Oh my god yes. There are so many posts meant to be sort of proggresive (idk how to say it), but there are points where some posts are pretty...extreme or dehumanizing

11

u/halfawatermelon69 16h ago edited 10h ago

I've barely used Threads but for some reason the algorithm has locked in on showing me the craziest black conspiracy theories about how Europeans actually imported Native Americans to further the claim that black people weren't the "actual" Native Americans and how virtually every single invention (ever) is stolen from black people - and how white Europeans actually are a parasitic alien race that should be exterminated...

It's the most toxic social media platform by far, in my opinion.

9

u/Mega3000aka 1d ago

Yeah I often think it's ragebait but then realise the poster actually believes in whatever insane shit they're saying.

16

u/Creepercolin2007 1d ago

Imagine the Twitter platform but the user base is 70% old Facebook people and 30% Instagram people in their mid 20’s-30’s

7

u/MadRhetoric182 1d ago

Threads is the Meta Twitter, linked to Insta and Facebook. It’s all part of the Zuckerberg Platform.

30

u/Vaguechicanery 1d ago

Outside this subreddit I guarantee you'll find the same thing.

19

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 1d ago

Theyre the same people that cheered clancy murdering her children.

7

u/Evanecent_Lightt 19h ago

Well.. Misandry has gone mainstream as the "in" trend.

Y'know, as revenge for all those years women were oppressed.

By women who never were..
And performative men desperate to be liked by those type of women.

If the genders were reversed this would never fly.

His ass would have been kicked off that flight so fast his head would spin.

-2

u/TheMaidenOfDragons 11h ago edited 2h ago

More women were killed by their husbands or boyfriends since Sept. 11 than all the Americans who were killed by 9/11 or in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Even today, women have 2/3rds of the legal rights as men.

And you also do know that child marriage still exists in parts of the world, right?

So please feel free to mansplain to all the women why we should just shut up.

Edit: my comment is simply pointing out that women clearly were oppressed, clearly still are being oppressed, and that misandry is not “in”.

I’m confused as how I clearly said this woman is in the wrong and somehow this turned into a men’s rights subject.

Edit: sorry I forgot women bad, men right

4

u/FredyOriley 10h ago

Other people that I don't know are being oppressed. So that gives me the right to do things to people who aren't doing anything to me. You put up an example of a women doing something shitty to a man who has no control over the circumstances. Then wonder why the previous comment said that there's been a rise in that behavior and how it's bad. Nobody in the WEST agrees the stats you put out are a good thing. I refuse to be told to shut up and treated as the bad guy simply because I share the same sex as people who do bad things.

1

u/ConsultJimMoriarty 28m ago

You don’t know any women?

Actually, that tracks.

-1

u/TheMaidenOfDragons 9h ago

What? Honestly, what?

The comment I responded to, acted like women have never been oppressed and also acted like there are still things going on in this world that are not detrimental to women and that misandry is the problem here.

I literally am on this thread at saying that what this woman did a bad thing.

Those are two completely separate topics. No one told you to shut up? No one treated men as the bad guy? I honestly have no idea where your comment is coming from.

Also, there are absolutely people in the west who still think that men should be superior. There are literally people in political positions here who think that.

Modern feminism is just Misandry

There we are.

0

u/TheMaidenOfDragons 11h ago

Oh yikes.

The basis of feminism is to push for women to have the same rights as men and be treated the same.

If that is not what someone is doing then that’s not feminism.

2

u/Lirulyth 23h ago

Imagine the nightmare that it would be to actually enforce this

All I can think is: that's probably not clean, if it punctures skin it could easily give you an infection/bloodborne illness

538

u/Boojum2k 1d ago

Immoral and report it to the flight attendant, say you fear it could be biologically contaminated, possibly deliberately. Her clever idea will get her escorted off the plane and into custody. Bonus round if she becomes belligerent when it happens and she never gets to fly again.

I'm the smallest person I know. Its great for hide and seek, it sucks everywhere else. Because of my size I'm usually seated next to XL people. Why? Because apparently really big + really small = 2 normal people. The math is dead wrong. I end up squished every time. But. Never, and I mean never ever, have I ever thought to cause a stranger physical injury.....porcupine style (or any other style for that matter). I may ask someone to move a little (probably not though) but I also know going in that anywhere I'm sat, like on a plane or bus, that the seats are small and the person next to me is probably as uncomfortable as me. So I'd rather make a friend in a miserable situation than start a war over an armrest.

This is the way

2

u/Gold_Data6221 3h ago

This is actually a biohazard

205

u/mister_beetlejuice 1d ago

Immoral. Airplanes are notoriously cramped, and it’s very likely that you will be bumped into at some point or another, even if both parties try their best to avoid it.

Best case scenario, you are a passive-aggressive nuisance to someone who, like you, is just trying to get to their destination. Worst case scenario, you cause an infection by stabbing someone with used jewelry, and/or cause a scene thus disrupting everyone else on the flight. (As someone who works with secondhand jewellery, earrings can get quite disgusting from oil and dead skin buildup. My fingers are always covered in grime by breaktime.)

38

u/Slightly-Mikey 1d ago

Back when I was a skinny dude, I was sat in the middle seat. I had to lean over and sleep on the pull out tray the entire flight because I felt uncomfortable touching their shoulders the entire flight. Only one of them was a heavy individual. It can, and likely will happen. She's an insane person. It sucks but it is what it is.

141

u/Lirulyth 1d ago

Nah I would immediately report this to an FA

28

u/Roam1985 1d ago

Immoral, she has the aisle seat and is taking both armrests to stab the person who’s already stuck in the middle?

10

u/goteachyourself 1d ago

It's apparently a 2x2 seating situation, no middle seat. Still unhinged behavior.

23

u/ChewBaka12 1d ago

Biohazard. Has been inside her for an indeterminate amount of time, who knows what it picked up

1

u/daveismypup 12h ago

But enough about her husband!

28

u/SoccerGamerGuy7 1d ago

Airplanes can notoriously be stressful and cramped, which occasionally leads to rude or unpleasant behavior.

This is beyond rude or unpleasant. I cant tell legally whether it falls under booby traps, assault or battery but regardless its intent to cause harm.

And also potentially exposure to bacterial infections or bloodborne illness.

If you are still on the plane immediately call for flight attendant. If not a report can be made through the airline with the flight number, the seat number and the picture.

That is disgusting behavior.

32

u/Lirulyth 1d ago edited 1d ago

You don’t get to demand and are not ensured absolutely no physical contact with your seat mate while sitting in economy. Or being on a plane in general.

1

u/Crazy_Buyer_5580 8h ago

it may not be "ensured" but everyone is allowed to demand no physical contact from other people. "personal space" is a natural instinct to protect yourself from strangers. many public transportation forms (planes, trains, cars, golf carts, trolleys, etc.) have safety devices or physical indentations to delegate the partitioning of seats

2

u/Lirulyth 8h ago

Yeah but you don’t get to stab someone over it

1

u/Crazy_Buyer_5580 2h ago

this earring protrudes out millimeters so in order to get "stabbed" you'd practically have to have no space between your bodies.

42

u/TheMaidenOfDragons 1d ago

5

u/KittyKattKate 23h ago

Funny cause he seems to be in the middle.

1

u/Crazy_Buyer_5580 8h ago

she's on the aisle seat, look at the spacing between her face from photographer vs the two seats on her left

1

u/KittyKattKate 7h ago

Right, so this would leave photographer in middle seat.
Hurry, pee on the armrest to claim it!!

17

u/Monkey_the_dragon 1d ago

I say this is highly immoral, inconsiderate and a threat to the other passengers.

9

u/No-Analyst1229 1d ago

Lmao she what? She put the ear ring there so it will poke OP if hes too close on the arm lean?

9

u/BigFatModeraterFupa 1d ago

correct

4

u/No-Analyst1229 1d ago

Thats crazy

7

u/BigFatModeraterFupa 23h ago

it definitely feels like it's nearing "psycho" levels doesn't it?😅

5

u/GIDDY-UP-GO 1d ago

Easy fix, take the gum outta your mouth (cuz everyone chews gum on a plane) put said gum onto sharp item to prevent it from poking you!

26

u/No-Routine-9963 1d ago

It’s misguided (for the turbulence reason), but the reason some women are reacting favorably is because some men make a habit of “accidentally brushing up against” the same woman again and again and again…

It gets really old, and it happens far too often to always be “accidentally.”

19

u/youdontlookitalian 23h ago

Yep, or they’ll touch your lower back to get by but would never do the same when passing a man. It’s annoying.

4

u/No-Routine-9963 20h ago

Oh yes. This too. At an old job, a coworker did this all the time and all the female employees started exchanging notes - turns out, he was doing it to ALL of us. Ick.

0

u/Puzzleheaded_Sun7966 14h ago

Wat? You understand you need to be like a 58/10 for someone to get the slightest bit of arousal for touching your lower back. Its a pretty common thing to let the person acknowledge your passing them, no matter what gender. You guys really overestimate how attractive you guys are.

3

u/TheSoftParent 12h ago

Jfc way to be intentionally obtuse and part of the problem

2

u/youdontlookitalian 9h ago

I’m not even talking about being attractive or unattractive. It’s how some men feel entitled to touch women, strangers, in ways they would never even think to interact with a man.

1

u/ConsultJimMoriarty 26m ago

Then why don’t they do it to us as well, if they’re not getting anything out of it?

1

u/Writeitout323 1h ago

Men always touch me on flights you dont need so much ball room that your thigh is on me.

1

u/Bidcar 4m ago

Women do the same thing. Both should stop.

-2

u/Puzzleheaded_Sun7966 14h ago

Women wish men was brushing up against them, gtfo with that shit its a 8h flight I dont hit on everyone I meet i just want so have somewhat less painful flight. You're not all that.

13

u/tlrider1 1d ago

Immoral, and I'd even say it's assualt.

Airplane seat are cramped. Bumping into eachother is just what happens. Last thing I want to do, is get stabbed by some disgusting earring, with who knows what is on the end of it, and have it penetrate my skin, because there's some turbulence.

I'd get a flight attendant and demand this whacko get removed from the flight.

-3

u/Far_Challenge_4273 1d ago

It’s battery, not necessarily assault

18

u/ImJustHappyYoureHere 1d ago

Yeah that’s assault. It’s illegal. She’s intentionally causing you harm.

3

u/Far_Challenge_4273 1d ago

It’s battery, not necessarily assault

6

u/Slightly-Mikey 1d ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure battery is a worse offense

0

u/Far_Challenge_4273 1d ago

It is, but if you are gunna use legal terminology you might as well get it right so 🤷‍♂️

As litt once said “the law is a precise endeavor” or sum like that

2

u/ImJustHappyYoureHere 23h ago

I thought battery but from my state I think it leans more on the assault terminology

2

u/Far_Challenge_4273 23h ago

Out of curiosity what state is that

4

u/Difficult_Willow_966 1d ago

I would argue that just putting it there is assault. As it reasonably causes one to “fear imminent harmful or offensive contact.” If it touches, scrapes or pokes OP then Absolutely battery

1

u/Far_Challenge_4273 23h ago

I didn’t say it’s not assault, just that if it’s one of the two it’s battery

14

u/FireHammer09 1d ago

Oh no, a famously cramped seat, let me just use my shrink ray real quick.

She's insufferable and hated and the people who think it's fine are the same way

8

u/AxionBlackwell 22h ago

Immoral that's the definition of a biological hazard if it pierces the skin.. report to an attendant

Also op do the same post with a fat woman instead of man.. I really want to compare the comments

1

u/Crazy_Buyer_5580 8h ago

why not fat woman compared to fat man?

9

u/NecessaryFine8989 1d ago

I don't think this is even real, I fly all the time and turbulence rarely bumps me into someone.

1

u/Writeitout323 1h ago

Its cuz hes intentionally in her space.

10

u/Nexus_Neo 1d ago

Nobody likes a karen

3

u/BigFatModeraterFupa 1d ago

this beyond karen lol, this is just a bizarre/mentally ill assault

9

u/uncomfortabletruth94 1d ago

Extreme entitlement, probably hasn’t been told no very often

5

u/Secret-Support-2727 1d ago

This is legally assault. Call the flight attendant and have the police waiting when you land. That’s literally what will happen. Also it’s especially stupid to commit assault on an aircraft.

You also absolutely should pursue this, don’t let them brush you off. You’re not only protecting yourself, but this is indicative of her general behavior, you’ll never know who you just saved in the future.

4

u/Inside_Ad_2830 1d ago

Just tell an airline attendant.

0

u/Inside_Ad_2830 1d ago

I’d also do something equally petty. Like put peanut butter on my arm. Tell her not to touch me if she doesn’t want it on her.

2

u/Ilovedrpepper7 23h ago

lol I bet

1

u/Inside_Ad_2830 23h ago

Gambling is a serious problem for some. You don’t have to flaunt your extracurriculars here.

0

u/TakeThisShot---l__l 21h ago

non sequitur af

1

u/Aggressive_Sand_3951 9h ago

I think she’d be fine with that, given she didn’t want someone else touching her.

4

u/ShavedSavage 1d ago

I mean, no that is some form of assault. It’s clearly intended to physically harm another person. Tell a flight attendant

7

u/repeatoflasttime 1d ago

Not only is this immoral because she's threatening, granted in a useless and tiny way, a stranger with bodily harm but because using an earring is DISGUSTING.

6

u/Vermicelli14 1d ago

I'd love to see the discourse if she was stabbing a fat woman

3

u/darkonark 1d ago

I would just yell "I would appreciate it if you would QUIT STABBING ME". And ask for the flight attendant.

4

u/Full-Archer8719 1d ago

Pretty sure this can be considered assault

2

u/Icy-Variation6614 1d ago

Plus of it was in her ear, the person could get an infection or something like that of it pierced (heh) their skin.

4

u/bisexualbestfriend 1d ago

I’m 200+ pounds and im just imagining this happening to me on an airplane, genuine misery

2

u/OkWrongdoer3800 1d ago

I guarantee she’d be kicked off the plane if he brought this up to a flight attendant.

4

u/Vaguechicanery 1d ago

Obviously immoral. At this point I have seen enough bullshit on planes that it would be worth paying for first class to not be treated like an animal or have people literally try to stab me.

4

u/Deepbliss4 1d ago

Immoral and deranged

-1

u/Markjohn35 1d ago

Her husband doesn’t want her and her kids and family hate her….there can be no other explanation

2

u/sebby_eris 1d ago

Immoral and yes very illegal. If the person so chooses they could pursue an assault charge bc this does still constitute assault and I doubt they would but I wouldn't be surprised if this could possibly count as assault with a weapon bc she is using an object with intent to harm. Will the cop(acab) be annoyed by the paperwork yes but she could still catch a charge. Also it's his seat he can take up as much as he wants what do you mean he's taking up too much space in his seat it's his seat. Girl go by train next time or just drive and if it's overseas get on a boat. Don't get on a plane if you're gonna be a dick about people sitting next to you. At least a train is less crowded, a boat you get your own room and if it's you car well shit it's your car do whatever you want. A plane? Get outta here with that nonsense you're gonna go to jail bc someone is gonna be in the right mood on the right day when they get jabbed. But what do I know I'm just some rando on reddit.

1

u/TraditionalLaw7763 1d ago

This is a wee bit different from my punk days in the 1980’s and our spiked leather jackets we wore all the time.

1

u/bilbobaggins001 10h ago

Immoral. With the size of airplane seats these days even a normal sized person might be shoulder to shoulder with someone.

1

u/Crazy_Buyer_5580 8h ago

moral, you run into the arm rest divider before your seatmates arm. mind your environment or pay the upcharge for a seat that has the space you need.

1

u/Flightle 5h ago

Middle seat gets the arm rest.

1

u/Writeitout323 1h ago

Shes in her seat maybe he should stay in his? The only way this hurts him is if hes literally touching her seat.

1

u/whaticism 1d ago

Is this the same as brandishing? I mean, tiny tiny brandishing?

1

u/the_vengefull-one 20h ago

Immoral, god forbid someone accidentally bump into you. It's one thing to wear studded or even spiked clothing in a fashion way like studded and spiked leather jackets or vests but an earring is way too sharp to be doing that.

1

u/PomPomMom93 20h ago

This is why you always try to get seated next to a friend.

1

u/Hungry_Attention_981 17h ago

This sounds like multiple lawsuits if the flight attendant was given notice but did nothing

-4

u/Andalie 1d ago

Moral, she's in the middle seat and it's common courtesy that seat gets both armrests. This guy seems to be entitled to her space and is in need of a lesson in manners.

2

u/Cnumian_124 20h ago

it's common courtesy that seat gets both armrests

...no

1

u/mister_beetlejuice 13h ago

She’s in the aisle seat..

1

u/Andalie 13h ago

Really? It's immoral then but I think I see two other seats behind her

1

u/mister_beetlejuice 13h ago

They’re on the other side of the aisle. Notice the gap between her seat and theirs?

0

u/sufferIhopeyoudo 15h ago

Meh sorry I’m going against the grain on this one.. that’s on her arm in her seat and it has nothing to do with you unless you’re in her space… if you can’t be in your space, buy two spaces

0

You know aircraft have this thing called “turbulence” right? Where the plane shakes a bit? And you know aircraft seats are notoriously cramped, like a max of a few inches of clearance between people, right? Now imagine that happens if this plane hits turbulence and both people in this scenario end up getting shaken around for a bit, and they end up going towards each other.

9

u/Vermicelli14 1d ago

Yeah, big people go on planes too.

-3

u/NikWitchLEO 1d ago

This won’t fly once medically fragile people (especially those on blood thinners) sit next to someone who tries this. The person who won’t possibly bleed out will not be the innocent party, no matter what. It’s intentional harm. Plus, add an asshole like me and you’ll get punched in the mouth until I pass out from blood loss.

6

u/Smokey_da_bare 23h ago

Imagine bleeding out from the back of an earring. If you can’t apply pressure to stop a poke from a earring, you should not be flying and probably should die anyways.

0

u/NikWitchLEO 22h ago

Ok I know it’s not that serious but let’s say it hypothetically happened. Theres a shit ton of turbulence. The earring doesn’t just poke you. they actually cause many deep scratches because of the situation, maybe even gouges. You have no idea that your clotting levels are crazy wonky and super high plus, you just took your meds for the day so now you’re extra thin. Are you still gonna bleed out? No, but I’ll still bleed enough and for a good enough time to highly piss me off that it would be worth getting charges.

-6

u/hazbaz1984 1d ago

Got to be the US.

Ugly, fat, gross passengers.

Massively entitled. Worst travellers in the entire world.

Makes sense that one of them would do something as weird as this.

But also, a blunt little earring? Couldn’t the guy just put on a jumper or something? Smells like BS to me.

-1

u/MigrationForever 13h ago

I mean realistically that’s way in her zone. There’s absolutely no reason you should be feeling that, with or without turbulence. If you’re getting so into her territory that it “stabbed” you, you should be bracing yourself more OR you’re that guys that’s large enough that no one wants to sit text to.

2

u/TheMaidenOfDragons 11h ago

I’m a woman and I’ve bumped shoulders with people on flights before.

Economy seats are pretty small.

1

u/MigrationForever 10h ago

I’m a guy who is on 2-6 flights nearly every week of the year. This woman in the pictures is well within her boundaries of her seat, so if the guy is bumping into her it’s because he’s not respecting her space (he said he was using the arm rest, that always belongs to the person in the middle seat) OR because he’s way wider than his seat.

1

u/TheMaidenOfDragons 10h ago

That’s cool. I travel 2-3 times a year and I’m a woman. I’ve bumped shoulders and arms with people, and I’ve also unfortunately learned that not all economy seats are the same. Also, have you never had turbulence, ever?

There also is no middle seat here it’s two-seat aisles.

Regardless, she deserves a no-fly ban and to be arrested if she’s fashioning weapons because someone’s arm is touching hers/bumping it.

0

u/Main_Lawfulness9587 13h ago

She hates men and eants to send a message. Its cool these days.

Moral if she's not hogging the armrest.

21

u/RecalcitrantHuman 1d ago

Do I have to mansplain this for you?

5

u/KenzoidTheHuman 1d ago

The earring is tiny and blunt. I've been on plenty of plane rides and even with turbulence, I've never had issues with constantly touching the person's arm next to me. If the person beside you keeps overlapping into your space, they're being inconsiderate, either intentionally or obliviously. If they are big enough where they can't help but to spill over into the seat next to them, maybe they could consider upgrading to first class or not get pissy when someone gets irritated by being constantly touched by a stranger.

I’m a woman and I have bumped shoulders on planes before. It is not always an issue of being “inconsiderate”.

Do you really think the answer is to create a stabbing device so you can go on the no-fly list and be arrested for battery? Really? lol.

Never flown with Delta but the middle armrest tends to be either shared at best or two separate skinny stick that fit maybe half your arm. As you can see in the image, the seat mate does not seem particularly broad yet her shoulders are still roughly equally wide as the seat. OOP is apparently bigger than her, so it stands to reason his shoulders and arms extend in the empty space between seats, which means that OOP risks being poked even with his arms on his lap.

He very likely is physically unable to avoid it
