Highly moral. One of my friends had Dark Brotherhood as his favorite faction in Oblivion and Skyrim and I reported his serial killer ass to the cops

Sarcasm

62

u/titanium-cheese 10h ago

Perfectly understandable. My brother was playing GTA running over hockers and shooting pedestrians so I reported him. I'm proud to say that's one criminal behind bars instead of being out on the streets

18

u/Direct-Hedgehog-595 9h ago

I have recently played prototype and killed over a 100 people. Should I turn myself in?

5

But the voices, they say to continue the bloodbath! If I stop, the violence will spread to someone else's mind and they will replace me. The only way to.put an end to this is to ban gaming from the surface of the globe or all those poor souls will become violence addicts.

13

u/BentoBus2 9h ago

I agree and I break into all of my friends houses so I can start up their consoles and computers to make sure they are gaming on the straight and narrow. I applaud your work.

I had to beat the Holy Spirit into one of my friends who had Grand Theft Auto 5 on his PS4

Watching something does not mean you support it

I've seen stupid stories with shitty messages and didn't support them at all

-170

u/Individual-Scar-424 10h ago

You are actively supporting it by watching it.

105

So then I'm actively supporting genocide by watching Attack on Titan?

No because that show doesn't promote killing because the murderer gets punished in the end whereas, rudues doesn't get punished in the end.

It's like saying "I cut off my friends because they read berserk".

You might like a media for different reasons other than what it's most famous for.

Immoral.

34

u/NatashOverWorld 9h ago

Ah shit I love Berserk. I must be a serial killer that's planning to murder my ex-bestie for the way he dissolved the gang and fucked with my boo.

-8

u/Regular-Prompt7325 8h ago

The difference in my opinion would be the meta context of the stories, how they individually frame the bad actions abd how the greater story treats those actions. The existence of bad actions do not make a piece of art sympathetic to those actions. Just because a person is murdered is not an endorsement of murder, even in an instance where the character we are sympathetic too does it. Breaking Bad has characters we like doing bad things but the framing is often that those bad actions are not cool chill funtimes but dark, often tragic, and often bring about the fall of the character.

Similarly Berserk does not make the horrible things that happen in its workd seem as if they are airy and light and gentle. Berserk is brutal and painful and miserable and morally grey because that misery drives other characters to do the same actions that make them miserable, it is never framed as silly or softened so you dont need to consider the actions.

Mushoku Tensei however, pedals a brand of slapstick silly 'pervert' behaviour that is openly and brazenly pedophilic. The celebration of young and nubile bodies is not restrained just to Rudy but many of the side characters. It feels as if the show normalizes the obsession with young woman, with bodies that either are, or appear to be pre-pubescent and as a reader that makes me very uncomfortable because it feels as if part of the shows suspension of disbelief is that I should be okay with and cosign this behavior because those are the rules of the world they inhibit.

I am not going to immediately cut my friends off for liking the anime or the manga but I am going to have some follow up questions about it and make my opinions on the show clear. If they feel the need to constantly bring up the show I might become increasingly resentful because I really do view that show as being pretty supportive of some very negative things. However media diets are complex and I know the show has some positive aspects and so i can certainly understand someone who finds value in the greater story and who wishes to isolate the worst elements and focus on things they could learn from.

254

u/Careless-Platform-80 10h ago

Highly moral. If you are this much of a winny about cartoons, the best thing you can do is separate yourself from normal people and let they be

29

u/Naeelkalz 7h ago

The best answer of all

-13

u/SidViicious 6h ago

Depends on the reason for them watching. Would you say the same for Redo of Healer, or other rape fantasies, when they actively seek that type of shit out & enjoy it?

26

u/Careless-Platform-80 5h ago

Yes. You have the right to be as weird as you want If you can separate fiction from reality and don't hurt anyone.

Movies with copios amounts of gore have massive fanbases and most people don't act like you are a murder because you go watch a Slasher.

-9

u/SidViicious 5h ago

Ok, but your reply spells as ironic—as if that's normal— but truly, why wouldn't you want to cut weird people off who relish in the *idea* of rape & gore?

15

u/That-Cranberry6575 4h ago

Because it’s not real.

49

u/No_Technology7110 10h ago

Two of my buddies wanted me to watch the show with them and in the past week they've spent more time defending Rudeus and the author than we've watched.

Love the world building so far tho

11

u/Crusader_of_Heavens 9h ago

I recommend reading Old Dragon's Tale. Same universe but far in the past

3

u/the_idiot_sandwich91 8h ago

How far would you rate the anime if the pervy stuff wasn't there?

I haven't watched it yet but I'm honestly put off by what supposedly happens in the first ep

10

u/tom04cz 8h ago

If the protag was not a sex pest it would have been in the conversation for the best fantasy anime title. Excellent worldbuilding, amazing character work, insanely good animation, it's got everything, but then it has an obnoxious sex pest as a protagonist

3

u/Either-Patience1182 7h ago

Yeah i would side eye people who protect rudeus but if all the positives they enjoy are about the other stuff then cool. They should warn you about the mc and move on. Not all mc's are good people, some are in fact awful.

1

u/DarkSpore117 5h ago

Omg right?! The anime has so much good stuff and great ideas, but it’s wrapped in this weird pdfilic coating that makes it hard to recommend

16

u/RnImInShambles 10h ago

I've never seen this show and don't care to. But why is this the limit? There's serial killer movies, movies with rape, domestic violence, psychological torture, genocide, but you stop here over something animated at that? I can maybe understand if real children were used, but if you have no issue with any of those other things in media, idky this would be the hill to die on

37

u/DampAcute 10h ago

I mean, doesn't that make the one cutting off the red flag? I understand if it's the nasty stuff but if they can't differentiate reality from fantasy, a narrative from real life then that's on them

15

u/MildGenevaSuggestion 8h ago

Exactly. Policing your friends' media is a bigger red flag. Should I cut my mom out of my life for reading Twilight?

4

u/Scarecr0p 7h ago

she’s gotta go

7

u/DampAcute 8h ago

There are also people who loves true crime shows... It's pretty much a normal human psychology to be fascinated by the messed up, but that doesn't make said person messed up themselves. Some people are fascinated by those stuff not because they can relate to them but quite the opposite, they can't relate so they wanna see said character's perspective.

That's the sole purpose of fantasy in the first place, to feed those curiosity... By their logic, Everyone who watches pokemon are pro cruelty 😂

1

u/MildGenevaSuggestion 7h ago

I love the Pokemon movie for the whole "making your pets fight in arenas and random challenges is great, but why, God, why are they fighting without any crowd here to enjoy it?" Confused competitive dog fighter tears.

6

u/Arzodiak 8h ago

It's not moral nor inmoral, but stupid or understandable depending on the reason.

Do they say Rudeus did nothing wrong and want to be like him? Okay, cutting them off is understandable Do they like he story or lore? You're the stupid here

38

u/Thin_Fondant6836 10h ago

If youre fragile enough to cut people off over fictional stories then you didnt deserve those friends

7

What’s mushoku tensei?

5

u/Full-Tomorrow9889 5h ago edited 5h ago

The protagonist jerked of to his underage family member before dying and being reborn and doing perverted shit as a kid with the mind of an adult. He wears underwear on his head as a baby and gets a loli harem.

7

u/Acceptable-Minute847 5h ago

Oh. Shit

4

u/Full-Tomorrow9889 4h ago

Someone else made a comment with more details. Crazy that people in a morality scaling sub are defending the show so hard in these comments. Also the author is a pedo.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MoralityScaling/s/gEJeV7sYSZ

3

u/Ponji- 5h ago

Mushoku tensei is a story about a 30 something degenerate shut-in who gets reincarnated into another world. It’s a story with a handful of really beautiful moments, but there is also a lot of incredibly uncomfortable sexualization of the characters.

For reference, in the early parts of the series the MC gropes a 10 year old while she is sleeping. Naturally, this puts a lot of people off.

0

u/thejason755 26m ago

I cannot imagine why it would put people off to it.

1

u/MrAratus 6h ago

Anime/ranobe/manga

1

u/Acceptable-Minute847 6h ago

I get that from the comments, that doesn’t explain anything though, that’s a media type, not why it would cause you to cut off your two closest friends

1

u/MrAratus 6h ago

Author of meme is stupid as f if they really cut off two closest friends cause of this

1

u/Acceptable-Minute847 6h ago

Yes, but why would it be controversial enough to even make someone think that. Like, is it a loli anime or something?

0

u/MrAratus 6h ago

There is a lil bit of pdfilia in it, but not too much. Main hero is a reborn 30 years old, and in new life he got sex with 15 y old (he was 13{?} at that moment). The are few more examples of this, but nothing too much. It didn't even have description how it was

1

u/ScheidNation21 18m ago

It’s a VERY polarizing anime. Long story short is that the main character is a shut in pedophile (specifically by jerking off to a video of his underage nieces in the bathroom) but is eventually killed and reincarnated. But he manages to keep his memories from the past life, along with all the trauma he went through. He then tries to start his second life with no regrets and living it to the fullest.

He is not….. great, at the start of his new life and depending on who you ask he either gets much better or pretty much stays a pedophiliac pervert so the anime makes people emotional on both sides. Some will argue he should suffer consequences for his horrible deeds, some will say the lack of consequences make his development better, some will just not care and hate him relentlessly. I personally don’t think he’s a well written character in 90% of his screentime but I digress

In this specific tweets case tho the guy probably thinks “my friends like mushokou tensei that must mean their pedophiles” which is an obvious stretch. If I found out my friends liked mushokou tensei I wouldn’t give it much thought. If they like it because they find rudeus “relatable” and break their spines defending his actions….. then yeah we got a bit of an issue

7

u/HeavenlyFB 4h ago

Remember that the most watched shows in the west have been the likes of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, 13 Reasons Why, and Orange is the New Black. Shows full of morally questionable content, yet you almost never heard that kinda stuff with them and ESPECIALLY not with GoT. Each episode of that one were practically celebrated back in the day. This is performative brownie point scoring, nothing more.

2

u/FrancoNullo 3h ago

not to mention The Boys.

3

u/DrMagunstheBlue 2h ago

Do characters in those shows get rewarded by the narrative for their shitty actions?

When Ned allegedly cheated on Catelyn, did Catelyn smile, tell him it's okay because she knew he would, and tell him she can't wait to see what kind of woman he brings home next (this actually happened in MT)?

Mushoku Tensei is unserious gooner schlock of the lowest order. It's the anime equivalent of carnival food. The problem is that its loudest fans are so bereft of taste that they try to convince people it's fine dining.

They should learn from Redo of Healer fans and just admit they are consuming garbage.

3

u/HeavenlyFB 2h ago

Doesn't matter, the point is that some of the most praised shows in recent memory have fucked up shit in them but you don't hear or didn't hear "I'm dishoning them for watching it". It's performative bullshit. That's it. Even in the anime space, shows like Re:Zero, Overlord, Tanya the Evil, Evangelion, Black Lagoon, all popular for their times and all with dark content in them. You don't see the same kind of posts for that, especially for the likes of Black Lagoon and Overlord.

-4

u/DrMagunstheBlue 2h ago

"Doesn't matter"

It does, you pretending there is no difference just makes you an idiot friend.

2

u/Embarrassed_Safety33 2h ago

In real life people that do that get rewarded aswell as punished, haven’t watched the show but isnt the point that he wants to do better but cant?

1

u/HeavenlyFB 2h ago

No. It doesn't matter, because the overall point here is that they're dishoning their friend just solely based on content and not narrative. The content itself is no different than any popular show in the last ten years, just now it's isekai slop. Reading content doesn't condone the content, by the logic any university student who reads Mein Kumf is a nazi. It doesn't work, it doesn't make sense, and what their former friends read or watch isn't any of their business within reason.

5

u/Crimson_Marksman 10h ago

Immoral. I don't care if you read Blood Meridian, some people just have different tastes.

7

u/NwgrdrXI 10h ago

I mean, depends heavily on the why

If they like because of the all the good aspects, and are willing to survive the pedo stuff, is not imoral of them or of you.

If they like it BECAUSE of the pedophilia, well...

2

u/Tasty-Complaint-6437 9h ago

Totally depends if either they want to see whats the deal with them or if them are furious my jerking of to Rudeus creppying little girls.

2

u/DrMagunstheBlue 2h ago

Guess it depends on why they are cutting them off.

If the friends admit it's guilty pleasure junk food garbage, which is to say, have some intelligence and self-awareness, I don't think cutting them off is moral.

If they are telling you it's an incredible character study and one of the most intricately-crafted and nuanced stories in fiction then that means they're so dumb they probably need a legal guardian and as such cutting them off is moral if you don't want to associate with people that much dumber than you are.

Me when someone hates the show where:

Mc is a pedophile in his first life

Mc sneaks a camera into his little niece's bathroom (10 yrs old btw), records them in the bath, and jerks off to it instead of going to his parents funeral

Mc is a pedophile in his second life

Mc steals people panties as a fucking baby and treats it as a Holy treasure throughout his entire childhood (including teenage years) and after

Mc makes dolls of people without their consent to goon to them, before going on to teach another person to do the same thing

Mc made a doll of one of his friends that was "capable of sexual acts." (direct quote btw) This friend was also someone reincarnated into the same world as rudeus, but instead they weren't a pedophile.

Dont forget he bought a little girl slave just to help his disciple make goon statues

Author later wrote a scene of that same slave being forced to get naked when she was ten because she had her period and conveintley his disciple didn't realize, and thought that was the best solution

Mc decided to get incestuous and fuck his own cousin at age 15 (grown man in his mind btw) and then he gets ed when she leaves him

Mc cheats on the love of his life after she helped fix is Ed and after he hated his dad for doing the same, and then the original wife just doesnt fucking care

The person mc cheated with took advantage of him and then now is his second wife (literally raped him and benefitted from it)

Mc got a third wife who he literally had trauma from and who is his cousin and both original wives just dont fucking care.

First wife, literally tells him, that she never expected better from him and that she knew he would cheat on her

All of his wives he knew and targeted since he was a kid, even though he was 30 in his last life and born with in depth critical thinking skills (as smart if not smarter than any ten year old). One of his wives fits the "shes 1000 years old though!!" Trope.

Mc says he wants to slobber over his daughters thighs, "like he did to his wife last night"

His family members are incestuous, and he just lets it happen. (Runs in the family it seems)

Mcs little sister gets together with someone even older than mc that he has known since he was young (the guy was hundreds of years old and the guy and his little sister first met when she was 7)

Mcs father raped his maid, and instead of facing consequences, his current wife forgave him and he took the maid as his second wife. (Seems a pattern of the men in the story doing nasty bullshit and facing no consequences huh?)

Mcs half sister was groomed by her mother (the maid that got raped) to serve rudeus in ANY way necessary, but when she didnt get to get intimate with the mc, she went for the mcs son, who is related to her. She grooms his son and gets pregnant with him, and rudeus does nothing. She gets incestuous with a baby born of incest, as this son is the baby between mc and his cousin.

He never fucking stops being a pedophile

6

u/Worried-Wrongdoer714 9h ago

Having only watched the anime, some of these I don't even think happened, a lot is taken outta context, and I'm only on second watching to even argue... But why's the topic of reincarnation so heated for this title in particular? There's other Isekai and reincarnation anime out there where the same could be said, but I don't see people making those same points. Rudeus, is a massive creep, sure, but idk where the ped allegations are coming from. In universe rules, I believe said that they reach adulthood when they reach 15. Rudy, I believe he only slept with Eris when he reached that age? And on top of that, she was older than him. Then years later, when he got his wives, it wasn't that they didn't care, they did, they just understood Rudy from the beginning, and I think at least Roxy knew he would turn out like his dad. Who didn't even rape the maid, that was just the lie Rudeus told Zenith so she wouldn't throw her out.

4

u/I_am_omning_it 9h ago

I think it’s bc he’s explicitly pointed out to be a pedo in his life. The shower thing is in the LN but didn’t get added to adaptation. In the book I think there’s more going on (like grooming) too, but in the anime it is really gross that the adult VA is the one making the comments about who are effectively children, it’s a constant reminder that “this dude is an old ass man in a 10 year olds body lusting after kids”

5

u/That-Cranberry6575 4h ago edited 3h ago

You must be the shows biggest fan

Edit: pussy boy blocked me lol

Hush pedo

4

u/TheOmniAlms 10h ago

Eren Yeager is anime Hitler and AOT is awesome.

Ghandi is more of a pedo than Rudeus and while I wouldn't say I'm a fan I find him to be a pretty interesting figure.

Thomas Jefferson makes Rudeas look like a saint and that dude spit fucking bars non stop.

Rudeas is a pedo and the show is very entertaining.

While reading your comment I couldn't help but get the impression that you are a fan.

1

u/DrMagunstheBlue 2h ago

Eren Yeager died an unhappy virgin due to his character flaws.

Rudeus marries a trio of cookie-cutter anime bimbos and dies happy and content.

Can you figure out the difference little guy?

1

Ghandi died a hero

B-b-but this anime Is all about being a Better Person!!!!

What about uh...rudeous journey??? Uh???

Flawed characters are interesting!!! I like the lore!!!

7

u/NwgrdrXI 10h ago

That's the fun part!

The anime absolutely is about being a better person!

The author just doesn't think a pedophile is soemthing that needs to be corrected at all

1

u/GIBBRI 10h ago

Of course of course, a pedophile incestous cheater Is not the end of the world After all, he Is Just a bit flawed, even realistic some would Say

Truly an anime of all time

-1

u/Direct-Hedgehog-595 9h ago

The goon part I just larp lmao. That's not even the reason he is doing those statues to begin with. It's all to help the bald spear wielding demon who helped them when he and Eris where stranded on the demon continent restore his good name.

The shit his father did have nothing to do with him. Also she didn't rape his maid she actively seduced him because she was sexually frustrated. Oh and he did rape her just not at the time you are describing so he is still an asshole.

Did you even bother to watch what you are slandering?

2

u/Timothy1577 8h ago

Not necessarily immoral. Just stupid and media illiterate behavior.

2

u/Maximum_Boros 2h ago

I wouldn't cut them off but if they continue to insist on defending rudeus I'd probably wind up losing respect for them since it means they're fucking morons at the very least. IDC if they like the show or not but at least admit that shitter is what he is.

1

u/RedShadowF95 8h ago

Immoral. Piece of shit friend but very good outcome for the other ones, they're better off without him.

1

u/Clamps11037 8h ago

Moral as they dont have to deal with having a nut job as a friend.

1

u/Zigor022 8h ago

I enjoy the show yet still have disgust for Rudious and his behavior.

1

I have a friend who knows I watch it and where I am it doesn't seem as bad as I see people talk about it

Immoral. Them reading Mushoku Tensei doesn't mean they'll end up liking it or agreeing with its immorality. I personally hate the series but I catched up to the anime to get what people even like about it. Hatewatching can be fun as hell.

1

u/MaverickBoii 6h ago

Nobody is entitled to friendship so not immoral. I will say though that it's also stupid because there's a lot to love about Mushoku Tensei that has nothing to do with pedophilia.

1

1

Immoral. Just because I enjoyed reading Malazan doesn't mean I enjoy or support war crimes

1

u/puntycunty 5h ago

I mean , you choose who you can be friends with . That being said just because you like the show doesn’t mean you agree with rudeus.

1

u/Working-Explorer-446 5h ago

That's immoral and stupid. Fiction isn't reality. Not understanding that today is seriously crazy. Like, because I used to play FNAF, I'm a child killer and y’all should avoid me??

1

u/Ok-Refrigerator-8664 5h ago

I read Berserk.

Way worse things happen in Berserk. Stopping being friends with someone over reading Mushoku Tensei is crazy.

Do they defend Rudeus? Totaly moral. Do they criticize the story? Not moral.

1

u/Historical_View1359 9h ago

I thought I had a strong stomach but his constant perversion is genuinely annoying as shit.

Skip ahead and see he has panties on a shrine, yeah actual cocomelon for creeps. Story aside from all that is good but not worth the sludge. Moral if they defend the mc.

1

u/VongolaSedici 9h ago

Neither moral or immoral just dumb.

1

u/TBARb_D_D 9h ago

Wait until they get to last “bonus” book, if after they still like it - cut them off

0

u/StirFry__InaWok 9h ago

even if this was not rage bait (it is), it still wouldn't work for this sub.

there's not much anyone can say about the morality of someone cutting off close friends for something inane like reading a "problematic" novel series. even if the reason is something as stupid as that, everyone has the right to decide who they call friends.

by doing this they cause some degree of pain to those they cut off but ultimately this short term pain might be a mercy. remaining friends with someone that is this unhinged could lead to worse problems in the future, so the sooner they separate the better.

-2

u/Unique_Suit3789 10h ago

Moral considering this it the author those friends are supporting. An irl pedophile

-1

u/Vegetable_Cup_1134 10h ago

Web novel? definitely immoral

2

u/X_Fakel 9h ago

yeah OP changed reading to watch for no reason. Reading the web novel kinda implies that they are way more invested in this

-3

u/fuckthisstupidupdate 10h ago

Pretty reasonable its a shit story woth a cancer fanbase though i would just try to convince them to just not consume it

2

u/SeaDragonfly1831 9h ago

"I've had negative interactions with terminally online fans of the show so now I'm going to pretend it's actually objectively ass to own the chuds."

Many such cases. It wouldn't be as popular as it is if the story wasn't good lol
