I truly believe she can win the presidency if she runs.

u/kingtacticool 1d ago
She would make the best president, but 2028 would be a gamble with her running and dont have any more time to gamble with fascism

I see this narrative a lot and I really strongly disagree that women winning is impossible or a gamble. It was my initial takeaway after Kamala as well, but after I thought about her campaign a bit I realized that wasn’t really the case at all. She pretty much ran on the coattails of Biden, who was about as unpopular as Trump. She shouldn’t have lost, but it was one of the most horribly mismanaged campaigns in a long time outside of the debates.

Its not impossible but it is a gamble. I would like nothing more than to see AOC in the white house but we are dealing with fascism and Christian fundamentalism.
Maybe by 2028 america will be ready but I doubt it

You are right we should give into people that call Abdul Abdulara Muhamed, Zohran a Jihadist, and AOC every name under the sun. Because liberals are too afraid to stand for anything and would rather elect another empty suit just so they can see their team temporarily win until they lose to Trump 3.0 again.
You all wanted Hillary and Biden because Bernie was too much of gamble and then what happened? Oh we got Trump twice because of your safe electable candidates? Congrats for fighting fascism I guess.

Kamala didn't lose because she was a woman. Her campaign had 100 other problems and even Kamala herself has talked about some of them. I would encourage people to do some research.
Also dismissing AOC solely because of her gender and fearmongering about her chances without any constrictive arguments behind it s is not welcomed here. However this comment has produced some good counter arguments so we will let it slide this time.

u/kingtacticool 1d ago
Im not saying thats why she lost. All im saying is there is a group of men out there that simply will jot vote for a woman to be president. Its unfortunate but true

u/Zorosthirdsordx 1d ago
You called AOC risky and now are saying that there is a group of men that would never vote for a woman. Kamala fell apart with every demographic latino, white, gen z women included. Hillary on the other hand won latinos overwhelming, men included. Why is that?

u/noctalla 1d ago
It was a factor. Let's not lie to ourselves and pretend it wasn't. Sexism is deeply embedded in the fabric of America, reinforced by religion. But, you're right, it wasn't the only problem, nor was it the biggest. And it's not an insurmountable obstacle in the way of AOC or any other woman when running for the presidency.

Multiple things can be true, and we didn't choose this life or the perameters, but we have to figure out the best path forward, we have to figure out how to best navigate it. Having discourse about all the factors involved is healthy, it ain't counter productive.

It's the 4th quarter and she's our star player.
You don't keep her on the bench.
Remember we elected a black man, and this country is at least as racist as it is sexist. Also Clinton won the popular vote. I hate this false narrative that a woman can't win. It's silly.

u/kaz1030 1d ago
Why would AOC be such a gamble? The centrist-conservative Dems like Pelosi and Schumer caution the voters that their "moderate" approach is the way - well how has it gone? Remember: Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry, H. Clinton, and Harris? Oh yes, Bill - Obama and Biden won but the Dems have lost the House, Senate, Supreme Court and lost to Trump twice?
There are even those saying that Harris should run again - talk about gambling. Eh?

Do people hate Trump? Yet somehow he's beaten the centrist Dems twice. The Dems have lost everything by forgetting to advance the lives of the middle-class [like FDR] yet still you want to continue the "safe" bet.
Should the DNC find another Kerry or Harris? Just look at Schumer - he endorsed Mills in Maine and Crockett in TX. Both were crushed. The electorate is looking for kitchen table solutions - do you think another Schumer or Pelosi is the cure?

u/justins_dad 1d ago
Trump has the backing of billionaires that own social media. AOC will have the opposite. It's not fair or right but it is real. I think Schumer does damage to the Democratic Party every day he chooses not to retire.

u/kingtacticool 1d ago
This isnt about moderate or extremist or any of that nonsense. This is about the fact that their is a small portion of this country that simply will not vote for a woman president and while that is ridiculous its also a fact. We might now be able to win without them is also a truth.

u/kaz1030 1d ago
I don't agree with your assertion at all. Harris ran an incoherent campaign and was even unpopular with Dems. As an AG in California, her favorability was about 43% and when she ran in the 2020 primary only 4% of the Dems supported her. She didn't win a single delegate because she abandoned the primary before Iowa.
If you can't manage a national campaign and if your party members don't support you - it's hardly a wonder that she lost.
1
u/kingtacticool 1d ago
What about Hillary? Competent campaign. More than qualified. Solid message. And the country picked the rapist
3
u/kaz1030 1d ago
If you think that Hill ran a competent campaign you should read Shattered: Inside Hillary Clinton's Doomed Campaign by Jonathan Allen and Amie Pames. Do you know that she barely campaigned in Michigan, Wisconsin [states which she lost to Bernie and subsequently lost to Trump] and instead spent many days in Cali to embarrass Trump with a lopsided popular vote win?
Do you realize that Hill chose a no-name campaign manager with only state electoral experience? Robby Mook, had never run a national campaign - so despite only polling about 5% better than Trump she chose an inexperienced tyro for a tough presidential election.
Blaming voters and underestimating Trump is fun but he won twice, right? The larger more pertinent question is about why the Dems keep losing. How has the party lost nearly all rural support? Why have so many blue collar workers left the party?
Here's an old map of FDR's election - in these days Dems ruled rural states. Now rural regions are nearly all Red.

I can assure you, the people who will never vote for a woman will never vote for the 'woke-acrats'.
3
u/Vincent_Felix 1d ago
And we were never going to get those votes anyway, so why are you wringing your hands?
Anybody who is so sexist that they would never vote for a woman is a republican already, they are not your base, so STOP CATERING TO THEM.

If she wasn't a woman, absolutely. As a woman... maybe. I mean - a grassroots campaign got a black man elected, it should be doable.
Edit: Don't be mad at me for stating the reality. Every woman that's tried to be president has failed. She might be able to pull it off, but even women vote against women.

u/hodgsonstreet 1d ago edited 1d ago
At this point I have to assume that anyone who says this is just against the idea of female president.
Two women have ran. To write off women based on just two instances is completely insane. But even if you’re inclined to do that, you’d be ignoring the fact that both Clinton and Harris were deeply flawed candidates up against a cult personality. Harris barely even got to campaign, and yet both performed well.
A woman can absolutely win, if she isn’t a dud candidate.

Way to be a sexist pig. There's a lot of misogyny in this country, it's reality. I'm not against one, and I'm all for AOC as an option.
2
u/hodgsonstreet 10h ago
Of course there is misogyny, but there is zero data backing up your claim that a woman cannot win the presidency. You call me a sexist pig, but you’re the one placing limits on what women can achieve based on your own feelings. Literally all I’ve done is say that you are wrong.

u/battlepi 10h ago
At this point I have to assume that anyone who says this is just against the idea of female president.
This is why you're a sexist pig. You didn't say I was wrong, you said I was a misogynist for telling the truth. I'm absolutely for a woman president, I just believe in reality, it's not based on my own feelings, it's based on past results. Winning is more important. I hope she does, I'd vote for her. Hillary was supposed to be a landslide if you're old enough to remember, and see what we got? We couldn't even get Bernie throught the damn primaries because of the DNC pushing her.

This is why I keep sending her money. I'm old, I'm disabled, I'm in no way financially well off, but she helps people, and she keeps fighting for what's right.

That is such awesome news. I really hope Dr. Abdul El-Sayed wins. He seems like he truly cares about the people of Michigan and has real plans to make their lives better.

AOC is one of the most strategic figures on the left, and this is so valuable given that the left has very few people who are capable of thinking and behaving strategically. She always has short- and long-term objectives and does a great job of keeping those two aligned, is excellent at grassroots organizing and coalition building, is great at messaging, and she knows how to negotiate to build power for the left. If AES does in fact win this race, this will be a significant achievement for AOC and her movement.

I hope for the sane of US citizens, that she can rebuild the respect for the U.S. and make your country a free country.
I fear that she will get killed by your administration.

How does a public servant with an annual salary of $174,000 afford a million dollar donation?
5
6
u/jacob-makes-stuff 1d ago
This may be a difficult concept for you to understand, but politicians aren't supposed to pocket their donation money.
When trump and these republicans take their campaign donations to enrich themselves, buy themselves $80,000 "chairs" with campaign funds, or taking expensive gifts from "donors", that's both unethical and I'm pretty sure illegal if they revealed exactly how they were spending this money.
The fact that you don't understand this is what's disturbing. You've been so used to this for so long by these grifters that you jump to criticize one of the few politicians who actually tries to help us and doesn't take bribe money and corporate "donations" and gifts like the greedy assholes that just get into politics to get rich and feel powerful by doing favors for corporations that just make your life worse.

she has over a million dollars worth of donations to her campaign. She will transfer 1 million to Abdul, by the reaction of her supporters, they seem fine with their donations going to another candidate instead of AOC.

I love AOC. And I'm an old white man.
I donate to her monthly. It's.not much but it's what I can afford. I no longer donate to the DNC. She gets it instead.
