I was one of those. I wasn't exactly 'fired', but my career was being ended quietly. All because back in '17, I refused to swear an 'oath of loyalty' to him. There were 24 other general officers in that same group and not a single one of us 'survived' it. Yes, he was attempting to orchestrate a coup back then.
Now, I no longer am a citizen of the US. I left the country I served for 32 years behind and I'm much happier thanks to that decision.
Bit of an "aw shit here we go again" moment - but isn't this part:
swear an 'oath of loyalty' to him [...] he was attempting to orchestrate a coup
something you would normally go to prison for?
Prisons are full of people who deserve to be inside much less than the man who has only earned more wealth, power and influence with each criminal act.
and how, pray tell, do you prove this and what's worse is when nobody will fucking listen! You think that all 25 of us did NOT provide this information to Congress? I'll tell you what happened: 8 months of classified, closed door testimony that led to nothing but 25 senior officers being shown the door in one form or another. When selection for your next promotion HAS to come from the president, it's easy to get passed over. He just doesn't submit your name and that's it. Game over.
Tbf my European ass was always taught that, for all its flaws and quirks, the US doesn't mess about when it comes to judicial system and the military, so stories like this really deflate that notion. And I believe those two exact branches will feel the most lasting damage after he's gone.
It'll take the US 30 years to fix their internal problems and closer to 50 to repair the damage that trump has done to the US on the international stage.
Seems like you weren't a very loyal American if you gave up your citizenship so easily to live in another country. You swore to uphold the Constitution but that loyalty didn't extend to when it is ACTUALLY in danger. Then you run like a coward to hide in another country.

And fired actual high ranking generals for bullshit reasons.
