Wild that for some people “free palestine” is anti-semitic hate speech.

Wild that any part of Macklemore's comments could be taken as hate speech or hateful in any way, shape, or form, tbh. I mean, unless you work for or support ICE.

"To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters: criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide in no way is a criticism of you. My message is for peace; love for all human beings to be treated with dignity, respect, and equality. So I say free Palestine, I say free Lebanon, I say free Cuba, I say free Congo, free Sudan, free all people in America living in fear of this terrorist organization, ICE. None of us will be free until we are all free."

Would you believe someone who does blackface on stage when he tells you he isn’t criticizing black people?

What about a picture of 10 years ago? Does it change the meaning of words? Kraft, Sheeran presumably knew this existed and did not find this a deal breaker. It's some weird gotcha that doesn't make sense.

Yes you’re right this is the Jewish person’s fault

This is absolutely the fault of Kraft, who decided to drag Ed and his other friends into it with him. Believing in dialogue means believing people should be allowed to say free Palestine.

Macklemore siding with the Cuban government?

7

u/shyguyJ Sep 15 '26

Why would you interpret "free Cuba" as siding with the Cuban government? It's pretty clearly siding with the Cuban people, like "free the Cuban people from the oppression of the Cuban government". What would the Cuban government need to be freed from, apart from its own corruption and authoritarian control?

-8

u/anxiousone56 Sep 15 '26

He didn’t say free the Cuban people, he said free Cuba as if he supports that government.
And he’s a socialist/communist so how could I not think this?

u/shyguyJ Sep 15 '26

Do you think "free Palestine" means "free the Palestinian government"? "Free Cuba" means "free the Cuban people from their oppressive government". Similar to how he said free the people in America living in fear of ICE....

Socialists don't inherently support authoritarian governments... what are you on about? Again, he specifically mentioned people living in fear of an authoritarian regime in the US.

Do you think "free Palestine" means "free the Palestinian government"?

er, yes. It doesn't mean from Palestinians from the scourge of Hamas and others who see them as nothing but cannon fodder in a futile war against Jews.

Socialists don't inherently support authoritarian governments...

Maybe not inherently, but inevitably.

Free Cuba can mean free Cuba from US sanctions as it how I interpreted it. Cuban people have been oppressed by their government for years nothing new there!

This sums it up nicely...

If you point out many powerful people believe in Jewish supremacy, that's antisemitic apparently.

Sharing that is like sharing libs of TikTok

He was wrong to do that, but he did it one time in 2014. It doesn’t change the fact that Israel is killing children.

-5

u/surfoxy Sep 14 '26

Wild that you didn't read his entire comments where he explains what he means by that. Ignoring Hamas and what they did, and just taking the side of the Palestinians, is supporting a hate and terror group.

3

u/GrundleTurf Sep 15 '26

No one is ignoring Hamas or condoning their actions. But our government isn’t financially supporting Hamas with our tax dollars while Americans are going broke.

-1

u/surfoxy Sep 15 '26

Almost every post on this topic in any sub in Reddit ignores their actions and praises the Palestinians, who are...wait for it...the ones who elected Hamas to lead them.

While I get the tax objection, that's not often cited as the issue.

And yes, your tax dollars did support Hamas via UNRWA to the tune of 7 billion per year. A drop in the bucket vs support to Israel, but stop acting like your money wasn't supporting terrorists.

the last time palestine voted in hamas was 2006, and they got less than half the vote.

almost half of palestinian citizens are under 20 who.. wait for it... weren't even born when the vote happened.

This is so dishonest it’s not even funny. We intentionally fund Israel knowing very well what they do. Hamas stole aid, and we haven’t provided it since.

-1

u/surfoxy Sep 15 '26

We have funded UNRWA for almost 70 years. We stopped providing it when the fact that it was going to actual October 7 participants became clear, not when Hamas (a terrorist group) stole aid, as they have been for decades. Which we knew.

We know what Israel has done historically. Crazy, but having a democracy in the middle east has certain geopolitical benefits. That funding is now under question, as it should be.

Anything other than the progressive-mandated party line, anything with nuance, anything with facts, is dishonest, of course.

0

u/GrundleTurf Sep 15 '26

So we didn’t intentionally fund Hamas, so you were being dishonest just like I claimed.

Israel is not a democracy. It is an apartheid state committing genocide, and it got us involved with an illegal Iranian war that has killed hundreds of innocent children and made our economy even worse while accomplishing nothing.

You would’ve gotten mad at Americans in the 40s who criticized Nazis because they didn’t condemn the soviets in the same breath. And then you’d argue that actually the Nazis are doing some good things.

u/bangles00 Sep 15 '26

So Israel can shoot and kill children?

4

u/surfoxy Sep 15 '26

Oh. Is that what I said? Or anything remotely like it? Hamas can butcher and mutilate children? Did you say that?
