However, in the grand scheme of things, he's just a guy who has shitty opinions and is a bad person. He's not trump, and he's not Hitler.
Em and him have a history. They are friends. You probably have friends who aren't exactly the greatest of people, or at the very least have a different opinion on world issues.
We can't expect artists to simply drop all of their personal relationships because we don't like what the individual stands for.
Okay? And? Neither one is a good look for someone who "drew a line in the sand" about this political topic and is now walking it back to collab with a talentless piece of shit.
He's not walking back anything. Most normal, rational people can hold space for complex opinions and nuanced stances. Eminem, like normal people, is capable of empathy and maintaining friendships with people he disagrees with on some issues, even very big issues. Most of us do the same with family members or coworkers, or indeed, very old friends.
What if you just calmed the fuck down and found something else to do? Stop riling yourself up about every single thing you read. This is really not that big of deal. You clearly don't listen to Eminem, nor Kid Rock, and you don't have a dog in this fight. You don't care about these people. Just stop.
I don't have a dog in this fight? Are you kidding me? I happen to live in the country that is being turned into a shithole. So yeah, when I see people openly support it happening like its a good thing it kinda pisses me off and makes me dislike them.
If you find that you have no problem associating with people who are into what they do, you are just as big of a piece of shit as them.
well to snoop, trump helped get a pardon for his cousin who was wrongfully imprisoned while he said democrats helped lock him up with the 3rd strike rule in the first place. lil wayne also was pardoned by trump. jayz is just a rich guy who appreciates trump making him richer.
And Em is an outspoken critic of Trump. It doesn't matter.
People are complicated and 3 dimensional. Trump is divisive, but being able to maintain friendships with people you disagree with - even wildly - is a better point to take from this.
Then he supports hateful and demonstrably damaging policies for our country. There's nothing cool or kind about that. He's either uneducated and voting anhway or truly believes trump is correct, which is way worse.
I’m not parasocial enough to care which people should or shouldn’t be friends with. Same goes with anyone else in my life too. Really none of my business
Im from southeast texas. Ive lived in a very liberal city since i was 18 though, and I’m a liberal myself. If I cut out all the people in my life who voted for trump I’d have no family left. They’re good people at the end of the day, stupid but good and misguided maybe.
I’m also a liberal from texas, but I went no-contact with my maga family. It was the best hard decision I’ve ever made. Now that the veil of “but they’re your family they can’t be awful people” has been removed, I can see them more clearly and am sooo glad to not have to be surrounded by those miserable twats
Edit: I love all these comments taking me sharing a family dynamic as a personal attack and then telling me I’m a miserable asshole without knowing a single thing about my family other than that they’re maga. Sorry yall prob had ppl in your lives cut you off for being maga as well, but you don’t have to project that shit on me lol
Then again, it could be confirmation bias upholding your decision rather than looking at them with any real human empathy. But, you know, they are bad people and it isn’t you! They lack empathy! It’s all them!
And then we can all stay broke and miserable arguing about which one of our owners we like or dislike.
I prefer to treat “problematic” family like alcohol: a little bit now and then is fine. But too much too often will make me sick. Don’t mean I don’t have a bottle in the house. I just don’t have to drink it just because it’s there.
Hahahaha my parents and siblings are broke and I’ve got a very supportive husband, friends, in-laws…sticking with your family simply for financial support is pathetic
I’ve seen people duped my entire life. Most of them are family and they have the best intentions. They’re certainly not stupid. They believe and they follow.
Right, and y'all remember how so many fellow Americans were hurt under Clinton, Obama, and Biden.. some were actually shot dead too on American grounds by their ICE officers? ThEY arE AlL ThE sAMe.
It's just objectively true, if voters are guilty of everything the person they voted for does then we're all guilty... in fact under that logic the only innocent people are those who have never voted
they probably just don't know enough. i wouldnt say all "trump supporters" are bad people, some of them are just misguided, ignorant, or dull in the head.
Using the excuse of "not knowing enough" while we live in the information age is absolutely ridiculous. If they dont know it's almost certainly willful ignorance. They don't want to know, because some part of them understands that knowing will force them to acknowledge that they are shit people and have been for their entire lives.
The information age isn't as great as people think... information is easy to obtain but it hasn't gotten any easier to understand AND it's gotten harder to verify
Even if we can argue that it comes from ignorance, why would you choose to have anyone that dangerously ignorant around? I can't force you to cut these people off, but I can guarantee you that your life would be a lot better off if you did.
I say ignorant as in they just really don’t care or know that much about politics and just see the things he says and believes it. I don’t personally have anybody like that in my life, as my family and friends are entirely blue.
These things are alot more complicated than you're making them out to be. Some Trump voters think you're hurting people by voting democrat. Some people are just wrong and misguided and maybe even duped. It doesn't necessarily make them bad people.
At the end of the day most of these people want exactly what you want. Family, friends, a decent job and a place to call home with some food inside it.
This is true for some of the people that voted for trump sure but to label every single person who did as this is equally as hurtful and damaging towards any sort of progression forward, I truly cannot overstate how harmful having this much lack of nuance can be
They're good people in the sense that they look out for each other. My mom is the only Democrat in her Florida neighborhood and she owes her life to the dumbass Republican who looked out for her when she tried to OD. My grandpa is a full in fascist Cuban Trumpster and he helped pay for me to go to college even though he thought it would turn me liberal (it did).
This isn't to defend conservatives. They are supporting fascism and that's fucked up and bad. But if you think they're all evil monsters who never care about anyone or never do anything good then you need to study more history. The banality of evil is far more terrifying than the boogie man of fascism you have constructed.
It's a massive generalisation. Not everyone who votes for a particular party is a huge hardliner, and the majority are not of the opinion that people will be hurt by Trump being in power. I get that's hard to accept when we can see the hurt he causes, but some people aren't majorly political or have a good grasp or understanding of politics in all its glory. Framing everyone that votes for the republican party or Trump as pure evil, only presents us from being able to talk to them and change some of their minds.
I live in Oklahoma, the reddest state in the country, and I feel you on being forced to rub elbows with these people... sometimes. I get along to get along, but I only choose to associate with family and work people that I have to. I have cut off all my friends who supported this, and have plenty left. If I can do it, you can too, man. Holding them accountable is the only way they might take it seriously and rethink their choices. If they don't, they weren't worth having around anyway.
Difference between caring about your family despite flaws and appearing on a commercial album for your friend that has flaws and has not acknowledged his faults at all. This will make money for Kid Rock and bring him attention. Much different than just being someone's friend.
I think about this with fellow parents I know, even though our kids are friends. It's crazy, but the reality is we live in a society and we have to get along and life and friendships are complicated.
I'm not political but that's some loser shit honestly. How old are you? Genuine question... Anyways, enjoy being alone for the rest of your life because not everyone is going to have the same opinions and preferences as you.
People who comment on Reddit make very finite comments. I guarantee there are gray areas in their lives they WISH they could have a say about, but can’t.
Its grandstanding at its finest. I have family that say some really shitty things. Especially racist. Then they have a mixed child and take great care of them and their family. Crucify me if you must, but I think on average theyre doing alright. I disagree at opportunity.
Its always different at celebrity status, but I think kid rock is at a similar level and Eminem maybe sees it similarly. The dumb ass uncle or cousin you dont agree with but you can push aside those political ideas and just hang out.
Maybe this is proof that actions are more important than words in the grand scheme of things. Ignorance can make a person say awful things even if that isn’t how their hearts are oriented.
Racists being good to their own mixed child doesn't make them a good person, it just highlights the fact that they have zero empathy, which is a characteristic of a bad person.
his "opinions" are contradictions to basic human rights. are nazis are just people with shitty opinions? their "opinions" caused direct harm to others but we should still be friends?
fuck politics, people are being terrorized and literally murdered in the streets cause of his "opinions".
That’s such a stupid thing to say, and it makes you seem like you have no clue about how bad Nazis were.
Can you even name one thing Trump did that raises to even a fraction of the level of evil of the Nazis? I’m happy to agree if you call him a piece of shit but this Nazi talk is fucking dumb
I mean they arn't nazis though. You could just call them what they actually are which is american republicans lol. Doesnt mean you have to hate then any less but calling them nazis just is just conflating the two when they are fundamentally different.
The post you replied to is an excellent example of the kind of centrism that has dragged the entire political spectrum so far to the right that were living in the world that gets trump elected twice.
I don't think anyone is saying he is Hitler, and that's a very odd standard to try and force on it: "you can't be critical of someone unless they are as bad as Hitler", that makes no sense as a standard.
With the way people take about MAGA and Trump supporters makes it seem like each and every single one one them are evil and hate everyone else. Pretty the large majority of them don't even have the same exact believes of every other one of them. I constantly see posts her about how all MAGA wants everyone else to die, when all the person has stated is they want immigrants in their country. Hell, most Asia countries are openly and aggressively anti-foriegner, going as far as having signs posted about banning foreigners, and no one says anything about that. European countries have much stricter immigration laws than the US and no one seems to hate them.
Not excusing either of them - but most celebs and ultra rich people don’t really/fully share our values. I’m not impressed but not surprised when celebs do stuff like this
And neither are you, so you arent familiar with the dynamic and should probably stop giving advice on how to navigate it. You'll stress yourself out worrying about problems that you'll never have.
Very ignorant comment, we're talking about politics here so the average person is allowed to comment on it. You're informally trying to censor the voice of the common people
Wrong, I'm formally telling the 'common people' to stop acting like they know who either of these two 'rich folk' are because they see headlines. Everyone is more than welcome to speak on it, but speaking on it and trying to enforce your own personal moral code into the personal relationships of two celebrities you dont know because you think you'd be a better person than them in their shoes because you dont agree with one of their politics, something that the two have clearly put aside in the sake of their personal and professional relationship are two separate things and doing the latter is weird
Also, its not even talking politics. Eminem featured on a Kid Rock album mostly dedicated to religion, and you freaks made it a political thing. That's the point of my comment. It's inherently not political, it was turned into a political piece by you terminally online weirdos
Can't expect to redeem someone if everyone turns their back on them. Doors need to be open, friends need to be available. Kid rock doesn't write policy so the anger at him might be slightly greater than rational thinking would suggest
I mean me personally, I cut off all old friends who decided to remain MAGA after it was obvious a fascist faction. It sucked and hurt but none of us are millionaires so maybe that made it easier
I have a couple friends i disagree heavily with from political standpoint
The crazy thing is we just dont fucking talk about politics and we share other interests and gel together well in those areas.
They arent heavy on maga but are very conservative, they grew up in a conservative area and share a conservative culture. I respect that and they disagree with trumps racism and rape culture and thats all I really need from someone to be completely chill with them
Jesus you guys act like these artists should give a shit about you? They make music you purchase and listen to it …it’s a business relationship and you all want this dude to mind your feelings on the matter fuck your feelings
This a good way to look at it. I haven't really thought of this that way.
I was going to compare Em and KR to me and my former friend of 10 years being right wing and how I cut him off, but in my case, the friend was being openly queerphobic, racially insensitive and pro-ICE.
I haven't looked to see what exactly KR agrees with Trump on, so hopefully it's not that bad?
I think it’s tough for people who are directly affected by the politics of Kid rock. Eminem is white, he protests what is happening, but is largely untouched by Kid Rocks stances. I’m completely fine with cutting off all my family if this is what they stand for. I have plenty of good people who are in my family, or are my close friends or are the family I built.
Politics and personal beliefs aside, I simply find it a puzzling business decision from Eminem. Both commercially and creatively. It's one thing to be personal friends, I'd think his team was smarter than teaming a turd swirling the bowl. But hey, I am just a guy.
I used to be an asshole and I hung out with similar people. I cut off all my asshole friends and it made me a better person. I've grown and improved the way I treat myself and others. This improved my life and my family. Surround yourself with the type of people you would want to be around.
Too many youths have drank the kool aid that you are either on one side or the other. They’ll learn soon that life isn’t so black & white; there are many shades of gray.,
No I don’t have friends like that, because people who are bigots I don’t stay friends with at all. You find out someone is a racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic or pretty much any other kind of bigot, you end that friendship. You don’t stay friends with people who are not decent human beings.
I had a friend who I slowly realized over time was a sexist and an asshole. I stopped being friends with him, and it led to friendships with better people. Who you surround yourself with matters, and it matters a fucking lot.
Honestly, it's also because none of us how much of Kid Rock is an act.
Half the GOP are not onboard with MAGA but they won't go against it. Kid Rock could actually like tea and a quiet night in but he's never ever taking the shit public.
Dude i can't even hang in the eminem sub right now. Its just constant virtue signaling and everything. To be honest, im super left wing and a progressive liberal but man do we waste so much energy on stupid shit like that. It literally meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.
If he does a whole album with him called "screw illegals and women's rights" ok maybe we get mad. But it was a feature with his friend repping the same town. There is sooooo much more in the world to get pissed about right now.
I hate KR, love eminem. I will private the song to listen to it once then never again. Done. Lol
Okay, how is this for not a wild comparison. "Kid Rock" adopts similar ideology to MAGA where some people should either have no or lesser rights then him. Hmm, who also thought like that? The name escapes me right now... If there was only someone that posted the name few minutes ago and someone thought the comparison was stupid...
I seem to remember Em drawing a line on the ground and saying fuck anyone on the same side as trump. Now I see how performative that was. This is hypocrisy and nothing less.
So in the sentiment of what Em pretended to actually feel… Fuck Kid Rock, fuck anyone who supports this administration, and fuck you for defending Em here.
It’s not about opinions anymore. Not firmly standing against what this administration stands for and making excuses for it makes you a shitty person. Full stop. Fuck maga and fuck you.
People need to take a hard stand if we ever going to get out of this and quit acting like this is about opinions and not about basic human rights, genocide, and rampant pedophilia.
Hell yeah I’m angry and if you arent, then what does that say about you? You are defending it and calling me maga at the same time. So yeah. I’ll triple down on it. Fuck you dude.
You probably have friends who aren't exactly the greatest of people, or at the very least have a different opinion on world issues.
Yea, and I wouldn’t invite them to where I work, recommend them for a job, or work with them.
I’m able to keep business and pleasure separate. There is no reason Em had to do this. He chose to do this. We can and should be critical of that choice.
In the grand scheme of things MAGA supporters are not good people.
Pretending that this country isn’t going to shit at an extreme fucking rate because of the maga supporters is insane.
The more people say oh it’s ok they are maga and support evil shit because they are my friend is why there won’t be change. If you stand for nothing you stand for oppression
It’s not a difference of opinions…we aren’t talking about preference of hotdogs over hamburgers.
We’re taking about a difference of morality. Weather or not gay people have the right to exist, get married, take a shit without being harassed.
We’re talking about women’s rights over their body.
You’re part of the problem by just nonchalantly saying these are “just opinions”…
If I can cut my family off for not having aligned morals in humanity, Eminem can cut off an industry associate. They aren’t even coworkers, it’s not like Eminem is forced to work with Kid Rock.
To me this is the problem, cut these people off. No more entertaining them. If I can cut off family; you can cut off your loose associates.
We can't expect artists to simply drop all of their personal relationships because we don't like what the individual stands for.
There's a difference between dropping a friend and choosing to publicly collaborate with them on shit that you know will reach millions. Idgaf if they have a beer together in their private downtime, although I do think we should at this point be more selective and perhaps a bit more confrontational with "friends" who actively support fascist wannabe dictators. But let's not act like it's mandatory for artists who happen to be friends to release a collab together. It's very obviously not.
Also the whole religious shpiel just makes it gross to me (especially as a non-believer) cuz why is that the angle? Fucking terrible tbh.
"We wrote this for those who believe In G.O. to the D, however you voted or lean Liberal and evangelical can agree It’s God first, home of the free"
Gross. Aside from it being subpar lyricism (especially from Em) it's also just stupid. "Liberal and evangelical" are not even necessarily mutually exclusive. And fuck liberals/democrats/whatever who aren't religious, I guess? Guess they can't come together in the home of the "free" if they don't put "god first". Fuck right off with that.
In a time when the administration and many of their conservative followers abuse religion to sway voters, use it as mere pageantry, while literally behaving anything but christian in both their domestic and international policies, to then release a song like this with someone who actively supports the current administration - not a good look.
How about y'all come together as a people FOR a people, not for a magic sky daddy?
Actually, I don't have friends who aren't exactly the greatest of people.
Difference of opinion, sure. But once someone reveals themselves to be a shitty person, they no longer get to be my friend. Em is shitting the bed here.
Um- I beg to disagree. I dropped so many friends because of the MAGA mentality. As a kid- I was taught “Blood is thicker than water,” and we should put up with people’s views/attitudes bc they are simply family. As an adult- NOPE. If someone is toxic/shitty personality- I’m not supporting or hanging out with them. Best decision ever.

So here's the thing. We all hate kid Rock.
Just my two cents
