Rec.Me: "BEST"/"TOP"/"WORST" ____ Post 2012 albums to get on vinyl

I firmly believe that getting an artist's work on vinyl is a great way to support them.

However, there are plenty of artists who have made plenty of money before streaming largely ruined the financial benefits of a music career.

So I'm asking for your recommendations for albums released post 2012 (not reissues) that any self-respecting music afficiando would have in their collection.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Sevendust's "Angel's Son" guitar riff sounds oddly similar to Alice In Chains' "I Stay Away" intro. Any recommendations for songs with a similar vibe or similar riffs?

noticed these two riffs sound super similar and I love this specific dark, melodic guitar style. looking for more rock/metal songs that share this same exact sound or vibe.

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Indie running songs for a new playlist?

Hey everyone! Looking for some great recommendations for indie songs to add to a running playlist. NOT interested in well-known bands or acts -- really want some "off the beaten path" (pun intended?) tracks that I can sort of claim for myself haha. Love anthemic tracks, synthpop and alt-pop to the front of the line. Thanks for your help!

Rec.Me: instrumental/classical/traditional Jazz/Elegant music recommendations for our start-up company (THIS IS NOT AN PROMOTION)

THIS ISN‘T AN PROMOTION!!

Hello people of reddit!

Me and my team are currently working on making an startup company named “pour la vie” (“for the life“ in french) we’re doing this as a school project, we’re creating recipes, cooking them and selling them school events, prom and special occasions.

One of my tasks is creating an playlist that we could use when selling them. We’re looking for an professional and elegant type of music around 90 up to 110 bpm (it keeps attention for the costumers and edges them to buy more because the brain automatically syncs with the bpm when a song is played) preferably without lyrics but it wouldn’t be a problem if there are any as long as they are subtle.

I am literally pleading for help because I listen to more hardcore stuff like gabber or tekk and I have no idea about this type of music.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for songs similar to Aimee Mann’s “Save Me,” Big Thief, Mazzy Star, etc

• Upvotes

A while ago, I watched a movie called Magnolia, and there’s one song from it that has really stuck with me ever since: “Save Me” by Aimee Mann. I’ve been looking for songs with a similar sound and atmosphere, but I haven’t quite found what I’m looking for.

I’m also really into songs like “Paul” and “Not” by Big Thief, as well as artists like Mazzy Star and Cocteau Twins.

I guess I’m looking for music that feels melancholic, dreamy, intimate, or emotionally intense, but I’m open to anything that captures a similar feeling.

I’d love to hear your recommendations, whether they’re specific songs, albums, or artists.

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Please give me some songs to try

Hi, I've been having a pretty bad time with my interests lately. Even when I know I like the song I just don't wanna click. I keep scrolling..

So I was thinking maybe it's because I've heard the same songs over and over, sometimes even in the same order.

Can you please give me songs to try listening to so that maybe I break this curse?

I feel like I need to listen to music but j can't can't find anything anymore.

I usually listen to stuff like Kamijo and Verssailes, HYDE, twisted wonderland, ensemble stars (mostly valkyrie crazy:B and Ryuuseitai), paradox live (mostly Goku Luck, Akanyatsura and now the new song from illgator. I do like blue flame too tho) or romanian stuff like și afara ploua ploua, cine cine or la bunica by noaptea târziu 😂

Thankss!

Rec.Me: Your favorite music (anything) Compilation recommendations? (with various bonus points mentioned in tl;dr)

• Upvotes

tl;dr in middle, i like to yap, sorry

Hey, there! Weird question, so I was in a random music group and someone posted the question of if you could only bring two records to a deserted island to listen to for the rest of your life, what would they be? And at first I was thinking, like everyone else, I'll just post my two favorite albums, but then I thought, well I've already listened to those records to death and the thing that drives me to continue to listen to music isn't whatever two records I'm calling my favorites at the time, it's constantly finding new ways that people have to express themselves that I would have never thought of doing myself, or that might inspire me to think or create or see the world in a different way, or in a way that strengthens my own world view or i just like the mf yada yada yada etc etc etc so now honestly i'm thinking more in terms of pure volume, and this thought exercise gives me an excuse to dive deeper into something i've been meaning to do more, which is dive deeper into compilations/samplers/mixes/mixtapes etc

tl;dr I'm looking for any of your favorite compilations/mixes/samplers/mixtapes etc, bonus points if they are very comprehensive aka either they're very long and/or you feel sort of are working in the efforts of fully documenting the scene and era they come out of, bonus points if they're tied to a zine or doc put out by a mag or a label, bonus points if they're more than 30 songs, extra extra points if there's a lot of genre diversity

Looking for the perfect records for boredom, records I could never truly get bored of because there's so fucking much to dive into, both involving the music and everything surrounding it, that is the cumulative efforts of many many people.

Feel free to skip this part: If you want even more points and would like to steer your recommendations towards my actual preferences, I like hardcore punk, techno, noise rock, black metal, industrial, rap, dub, power electronics, early screamo and really anything weird.

The two records I would have most likely put as my favorites were Kayo Dot - Choirs Of The Eye and Prurient - Frozen Niagara Falls, with some of the runner up artists being (long list incoming) James Ferraro, Psychic TV, Bad Brains, Gaza, Rectal Hygienics, Muslimgauze, Godflesh, Elysia Crampton, Death In June, MDC, Consumer Electronics, Fitnesss, Brainbombs, Vatican Shadow, Yves Tumor, Charles Bronson, Chino Amobi, The Cure, Current 93, Atari Teenage Riot, Orchid, DJ Speedsick, Harvey Milk, Dreamcrusher and Revenge. Sorry for the long list, was just hoping one of the artists would tip someone off and they'd be like "oh then you'd love this comp for sure"

So I played Persona 5 a few months ago and I loved some of the upbeat music in the game and wanted to find more songs in the genre. Some examples of songs that I found and like that would fit my description would be "A Way Out" from Blood Blockade Battlefront and "Canned Heat" by Jamiroquai

I’m absolutely enamored by the album Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino by arctic monkeys but I haven’t been able to find any other songs or artists with that sort of dreamy, retro futuristic lounge singer aesthetic. Is anyone familiar with the album and know of anything with a similar sound? I want all the recs!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Help me build my alternative playlist!

Yooo, Spotify keeps recommending me the same stuff over and over, so thought I’d ask here!

Favourite band at the moment is Don Broco. Absolutely love everything they’ve put out, but I’m struggling to find another band that scratches the same itch.

My taste varies quite a lot 😭 Some bands I’m into are Boston Manor, Basement, Guilt Trip, State Champs, The Story So Far, Unpeople, Static Dress, Malevolence, Bilmuri etc.

I’m pretty open genre-wise, just love sick drums, chuggy riffs, massive choruses, fat bass and great production.
Would especially love some newer or smaller bands that deserve more attention rather than the usual recommendations you see everywhere. Hit me with anything!

Specifically, techno tracks with euphoric words over the top (like 'let it go', 'higher' etc.).
