Cleveland Ave is the worst
That’s it really. Getting down it from Capitol Trail to New London in the afternoon sucks. Sometimes it’s a big clusterf trying to turn on it. If I had known how bad it would be I might have moved to the other side of town.

Why no direct road from Barksdale Rd to Elkton Rd (avoiding the Casho Mill bridge)?
Genuinely curious, not complaining. Getting from the Barksdale Rd / Christina Pkwy area down to Elkton Rd near the shopping center (ACME, Home Depot, M&T) means going east and squeezing under the small rail bridge on Casho Mill Rd.
Looking at the map, there's what looks like a fairly short stretch of woods between the west end of Barksdale and Elkton Rd. A straight connector there seems like it would take a lot of pressure off Casho Mill.
Is there a reason it was never built? Wetlands or floodplain? Parkland or protected land? The rail line? Was it ever proposed and shot down? Would love to hear from anyone who knows the history.

New Castle County Pool Inspection — Questions About Vinyl Picket Fencing, Mesh Backing & Wraparound Porch
I’m located in Middletown, Delaware, and recently had an inground fiberglass swimming pool installed. I’m preparing for my final New Castle County pool inspection and hoping to hear from homeowners who have gone through the process.
Question 1: Existing White Vinyl Picket Fence
I currently have a 48-inch white vinyl picket fence surrounding the pool area, with approximately 3-inch gaps between the pickets. The horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart.
I’m considering adding black PVC-coated welded-wire mesh backing to approximately 125 linear feet of the existing fence instead of replacing everything.
Has anyone in New Castle County passed their final pool inspection with mesh backing on an existing vinyl picket fence?
Was the mesh installed on the inside (pool side) or outside of the fence?
What mesh opening size and fastening method were used?
Did the inspector approve it without requiring additional changes?
How much did you pay to have the mesh professionally installed?
Question 2: Raised Wraparound Porch
My home also has a wraparound porch that is approximately 24 inches above ground level, with a 38-inch-high railing.
The porch is adjacent to the pool area, and the existing fencing separates the outside access areas from the pool. Someone coming up the exterior porch stairs cannot simply walk into the pool area without crossing a barrier.
I’m trying to understand how New Castle County evaluates an elevated porch and its railing when it is adjacent to or forms part of a pool enclosure.
Has anyone passed a final pool inspection with a raised wraparound porch and a railing shorter than 48 inches?
Does the county measure the required barrier height from the porch floor or the ground below?
Does it make a difference if the porch is elevated approximately 2 feet above ground?
If the porch railing is considered part of the pool barrier, did the inspector require additional railing height, screening, or other modifications?
Did anyone receive approval based on the layout preventing direct access to the pool from the exterior stairs?
I’m specifically interested in firsthand experiences from New Castle County homeowners, especially anyone inspected in 2025 or 2026.
I’m trying to find a solution that meets the county’s requirements without unnecessarily replacing existing fencing or rebuilding the porch railing.
Any experiences, photos of approved setups, or recommendations for local contractors would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Snow blower repair
I know it is not even Halloween, but I’m looking for a snow blower repair recommendation since it wasn’t working at the end of last snow season. Better late than too late right?
Thank you in advance.

Therapist
Looking for a therapist in the Newark area for in-person appointments. A friend is looking to start therapy and has looked at psychology today and done some Google searching but I thought I’d ask here. She wants something pretty niche, I guess. White woman 50+ who has grown children that have moved out. She has a lot of anxieties and is now living alone.
Any suggestions or ideas for finding someone with this specific criteria? TIA

Recomendations for PM/ service on warehouse heater.
Although it works, it sounded horrible last year. With the place relatively cleaned out right now, I'd like to get it looked at to make sure everything is okay

Composting in Newark?
I live in an apartment complex but really would like to start composting. My ideal would be a composting center that accepts weekly food scraps and allows a pick-up of finished compost a few times a year. Anyone know of anything like this or have suggestions for apartment composting? Thanks in advance!

Beware Contractor Fraud , racist, and crook
galleryBeware of letting Omar Casillas get on your roof, I've witnessed him tear off singles, accelerate damages with unethical and illegal practices, which technically result into fraud , will strike roofs with hammers , purposely damaged gutters with ladders,
makes racist remarks about Indians and blacks , witnessed Omar take competitors door hangers off of residence doors which is considered fraud tampering with competitions advertisements on private property of homeowners, it has appeared.
Omar has been to jail before regarding manners with prior customers regarding withholding services and check payments. Imagine only what hasn't been discovered or challenged. I would use a more reputable, trustworthy company and not just a one man operation

Custom carpentry and historic restoration near you
galleryHappy Saturday y’all!
My favorite type of project is when we sit down with a Pinterest board and come up with something dreamy. My second would have to be digging into some old-time craftsmanship and matching the quality.
Here’s an example of each. First a custom pantry installation where I measured the Client’s KitchenAid and favorite cereal box to ensure it works for her lifestyle. Then a 200 year-old row home in old city with a window that stood the test of time, just not all time, and needed some repair before I could paint it along with the rest.
Last pic is me doing what I love to do with my free time: sharing my ceramic art with the world at a street festival.
You can dm me here or follow the link in my profile to my Instagram to see more projects. Let’s talk!
